We're thinking of going to HH for Christmas this year...it would be me, DH, DD (age 6) and DS (age 4). Is there stuff for us to do? We've never been to HH, so we're not sure what to expect.

Is there Christmas dinner or anything?

We always go in early June. I think Christmas time could be pretty cold. I know there's a children's musuem on the island now, but it will definitely be too cold to swim outside. A friend went in early April this past year and said it was chilly half th etime. On the positive side, I don't think it would be very crowded...

Although we've never been for Christmas, it would probably be a beautiful time. We go for Thanksgiving every year, and the resort is already decorated in its Christmas finery.

Although I don't know if there's a Christmas dinner offered there, there is at Thanksgiving, so there might also be at Christmas. Otherwise, you could check the local newspaper, The Island Packet, a few weeks beforehand. Also, I'll keep an eye on the ads when we go at Thanksgiving. The local Piggly-Wiggly has a premade Thanksgiving dinner, so there will probably be some places.

We are long time HH Christmas guests. My 11 yo doesn't remember anything different! Santa always visits the day before (and if you go his elves will bring your children a special gift on Christmas morning)! It's a very peaceful, quiet way to spend the holidays. The one year we thought we'd stay home, DH and I were miserable. Didn't feel like Christmas to us unless we were at HH!

There are enough activities at the resort to keep from being bored, but we also like to spend plenty of time walking the beach and riding bikes around the island. It can be pretty cold/windy, so ear muffs or a good hat are recommended, as well as a rainproof jacket and maybe gloves.

We're from the south, but we see plenty of folks from "up north" in the heated pool.

As far as Christmas dinner, we always have ours in our room. However, there are many local hotels that offer a special meal. There are also local restaurants that stay open on Christmas. The front desk gives you a list when you check-in.

We're arriving NYE! It'll be a different way for us to spend the holiday. Looking forward to it, and hopefully a trip to Savannah.
