We would fly out of Midway, Chicago or about how many hrs to drive? We have never been...to HH just DH and I going. thanks

That is a long drive from Chicago! I would fly. You fly into Savannah and rent a car there...it's about 45 min drive from that airport. Conversely you can fly right onto HHI but I think the airport's so small that connections might be bad. Have fun whatever you decide to do! :earsgirl:

We flew into savannah and Delta had some really good rates on direct flights out of NY. Since you are a major hub as well you would probably get there by air really inexpensively. It is a beautiful airport. Very small extreemly easy to find your way around! I would definitely say fly and rent a car. Plus visit Savannah's historic district for a day. The town is amazing!

It has to be at least a 15 hour drive. I would think you would want to fly and enjoy your vacation.

We drive. :moped:

It takes us about 16 hours each way. Last summer, we drove from home to Columbia, SC our first day. Then from Columbia to Hilton Head the second. It was a quick trip the second day. A long drive the first but that's how we prefer it.

I have yet to find airfare from Chicago to Savannah I'm willing to pay. Last year, it would have cost us $2400 round trip for a non-stop flight. I have yet to check into airfare for this year.

We are from Michigan but it seems to be about the same driving distance. Though we usually fly to WDW, we always drive when we go to HH. We seem to take more with us when we go to HH, which kind of makes flying a pain. We have never been able to find decent airfare into SC or Savannah, plus the expense of a rental car really makes driving our own vehicle an all around better way to go for us.

We are going this year ar Easter  and will be stopping in Gatlinburg the first night. We will drive through the Smokey Mountains on day 2, and sleep in Columbia. We will finally hit HH on day 3. When we drive anywhere, we like to make the road trip part of the fun and see whatever we can along the way!

Well thanks for all the info.have to admit i hate driving, flying is it......into Savannah sounds lovely.....I will start checking for air fare.....

I know in Charleston, SC we have a couple new airlines that are supposed to be cheaper, Independece Air is one, I have never flown on it so no experience, but we are only a 2 hour drive from Savannah...might be an alternative to fly into a cheaper city and drive. What about ATL? Can usually find cheap flights into there and then drive.

Just a heads up on Independence Air - for anyone that hates to fly - the planes are really, really small. I'm talking about 30 people small. Doesn't bother me, but my Father nearly freaked when he had to walk out on the ramp to load the plane, and saw how small it was. Oh this was out of Boston.
