are the wait times bad for dinner..we leave in 7 days and im worried with such a big family (11 people) we will be waiting for a while for a couple of tables

We don't eat out often in HHI. But when we do we go early - around 5:30. We were a party of 10 and this worked well for us at Old Oyster Factory and Boathouse II. I think we may have called ahead to Boathouse to warn them we were coming. We sat outside on the covered patio overlooking the marina.

Enjoy the GV. We loved sitting around that huge dining room table. Can't wait to get back to HHI.

HH is a place where families of four can wait an hour or two for places that don't do reservations, we've had groups and it can be a nightmare. I'd agree with going early where it should be easier and also many places have an early bird menu.

Many of the restaurants of HHI accept reservations (but not the Old Oyster Factory). If you pick up a copy of Restaurants of Hilton Head (available free in boxes outside groceries and other sites), you will find sample menus, locations, phone numbers, and whether they accept reservations. With a party the size of yours, reservations might eliminate a concern for you.

With a group as big as yours I would call any restaurant you're interested in after 1pm and tell them you have 11 ppl who would like to dine there.
Most of the time they will make some accomodation for such a large party.
I do it every year with 11-12 family members. Even at Guiseppi's Pizza!

WOW!:scared1: I really appreciate you mentioning that, Dean. We've always gone off season, but the weather's not as nice. I was thinking of going in the summer, but hearing that, I think I'll stick with off-season, when we can walk into any resturaunt we want and get a seat right away.

Places that don't take reservations can really be difficult with a larger group, the others aren't so bad if you plan ahead. As noted, a call earlier in the day combined with arriving earlier can be helpful. We'll be there in a few days but we likely will only go out as a large group one night. We've normally done this at the Old Oyster Factory in the past, likely will do Boathouse II this trip. We provide the accommodations (3 two BR units OF at Grande Ocean) so I insist on one group meal out.

Early Bird Special is the way to go!!! Not only do you get right in and seated, you get (usually) the Early Bird menu at a great price. Plus, after dinner in the summer months it is still light out until 9 pm, so there is plenty of time to enjoy an evening stroll or swim at the beach afterwards.

The only place I wouldn't go early is Sea Shack. People line up outside and it takes forever. If it's on you list go about an hour after opening when the big mess has died down and before the second wave has arrived.

restaurant.com has a number of good options for HH right now but they almost always exclude the early bird specials. I would agree that the EB specials tend to be very good for many of the locations.
