HH and Savannah

WDWNEWVBIE - I think the riverboat ride would be interesting and just long enough for an 8 year old. Savannah is beautiful but I don't think the riverboat ride would necessarly be anymore interesting than a boat ride anywhere else you might travel. Historic Savannah is picturesque and the streets are lined with the mossy oak trees that one pictures when thinking of the old South. The riverfront is lined with shops and restaurants that occupy the old cotton warehouses. The riverboat ride is nice but you also travel along an area of the riverfront that is more industrial and modern than the central part of the city. Hope this helps. Have a great vacation!

Savannah is one of my favorite places, second to Disney. There's so much history and the buildings are beautiful. I told dh that I wanted to buy a house there so that we could go during the year, as much as he loved Savannah he had to laugh at that one. We went in July and boy was it hot! I'm not a person that can be happy when it's hot so needless to say, but I really enjoyed it. If you want some really good food, I would stop at THE LADY AND SONS! We loved it so much that I bought the recipe book. It's so funny because when I got it home I looked in the book and thought to myself, it's used. They gave me a used book. It wasn't used the owner/author signed it, that's why the server asked for my name when I told her that I wanted to buy it. DH just wants to drive down there to go and eat, I told him the food is good, but no. Don't forget to take some taffy back with you.

I agree with the other post....The Lady and Sons is an awesome place to eat! It's located in the historic district in City Market, not far from River Street. A couple of places on the river that we love to eat are Spanky's, for casual lunches or dinners and also The Shrimp Factory. There are several restaraunts downtown, both on the riverfront and in the hotels. I am in the bakery business and we do a lot of the desserts for the places down there, so I can tell you that those are good!!! There are also some "chain" restaraunts downtown, like Outback Steakhouse and The Chart House....Most of the places downtown have their menus posted outside so you can see what they have and the prices....Oh yeah, I almost forgot, if you go on one of the tours and you eat lunch at Clary's (which is also mentioned in The Book) make sure to get one of their "world famous eclairs"... We make those in the bakery where I work!!!!
