Hi everyone!

We're headed to HH this Wed for 6 days. In a break from my usual overplanning, I have planned nothing! Now, I'm starting to panic...please help.

We are 5 adults and 2 kids (7 and 3 1/2) Can someone recommend do-not-miss restuarants and/or activities? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone know of a Catholic Church for Easter Mass? How about Easter brunch?

Thank you sooooooo much. I guess this no-planning thing is ok for some, but I don't think I can handle the stress that comes with trying to be low key:crazy:

Thanks!
Renee

It's been a few years since I was there was, but here are a few:

Chart House, expensive, but great steaks and fantastic dessert.

Wild Wings (or something close to that) a casual sports bar type.

We really liked the fast food counter service place at the Disney Beach house (Signals) for lunches.

There is a Catholic Church on the island that has a huge Easter service. My sister took my Mom a few years ago and raved about the service. People were out the doors, but apparently there was quite a system in place.

My sister says go to the rotary and take a left. Sorry I can't be more help. Ask at the desk and I'm sure they will help you.

A few recommendations for food -- Captain' s Seafood, Just Pasta, and Rita's Ices for dessert. Expensive, but we go every time we visit to the Old Fort Pub. Family who live near the island recommend the Old Oyster Factory.

Have fun. My family we all love HH.

If you're going to be there over Easter, I'd suggest either having food in the room to cook on Sunday, or making reservations SOON for dinner. Remember, Hilton Head doesn't have much in the way of food facilities other than a snack bar with limited hours.

There are lots and lots of great places to eat on the island. You can find about anything you want, from very casual to formal.

The Santa Fe or Charlies are great for a very nice dinner, if you have a sitter for your kids. These are across the main road from Disney, a bit to the right.

There are the usual chains, Applebys, Fuddruckersetc. Also, many of the major hotels have restaurants that are open to the public.

The Hilton Head Diner, just down the main highway to the right of Disney, is a great place for breakfast.

I do not recommend Kingfishers, which is on the left across the bridge from Disney. We had a bad experience there and the next day saw and were horrified by the lack of cleanliness in part of the kitchen. Maybe they've gotten better.

There are some little restaurants / deli / ice cream places in the Shelter Cove area right across the bridge from Disney. We've found them to be fine if we didn't want to drive. It's a short walk. Sometimes there is live entertainment outside.

Hope this helps.

If it is your first time I also recommend doing a dolphin cruise.

I totally agree with Miss Jane about restaurants -- we love Captain's Seafood, very casual and great seafood. We also recommend Just Pasta. It is very small, so I recommend getting there for when it opens up. Rita's ices is right near it. We were there a few weeks ago. The ices are great at Rita's, they also have great frozen custard -- the REAL THING -- not just some frozen "dairy" product. We were to The Old Oyster Factory a few years ago and that was very good too.

The best meal in all of HH is anything done by Chef Gordon -- but I bet you will not be able to get a ressie with him now. Still talking and thinking about that caramel fondue he made us!

Have a great trip.

Yes..the Catholic church (Holy Family) is very nice on the Island. You head left out of the resort on the main drag...then when you get to the rotary..go around and to the left...it will be about 1/2 way down before you get to the next rotary on the right. There is another Church before you get to the Catholic church.

There is also one (St. Gregory the Great)off the Island on the left hand side (coming from 95) near the Sun City retirement community. That one looks brand new.

If you go to www.masstimes.org

you can get a list of the Catholic Churches and the masstimes. I would suggest either calling them or checking out their web sites to see what special Masses they have for Easter.

I hope you have a ball...we are counting down till our trip in July.

Hi Renee and Sam,

From one Keystone state resident to another may I recommend The Land's End Tavern out at the South Beach Marina......the family and kids all week long wanted to head out to the Salty Dog. When we got there the wait was over two hours so we walked around and came across the Land's End Tavern. The owners greet you. It is a family affair and the selection was exactly what our party of 8 was looking for. The prices are what I would call a bargin for the quality and quantity of what you get. The service was wonderful and the surroundings made us feel right at home. Take a look at the attached link and you can see for yourself.

For less formal and quick but great local italian food we found Giuseppi's the best on the island. It is 5 minutes away and they have anything you would ever want.

Last year was our first visit to HHI and we loved it so much we are going back for a week after a week at WDW. Good luck and have a great Easter vacation

Hi, As far as a "do not miss" restaurant on HHI I would have to say it's a place called Stripes, An American Grill! I can't even begin to tell you how fabulous this restaurant is. The Chef/owner graduated 1st in his class at the culinary institute. The meal is beyond great!!! I highly recommend the jumbo lump crab appetizer (the menu changes seasonal, but this always seems to be on it) and the last time we went my husband ordered a lobster pot pie that I can't even begin to describe.

P.S. this is a reccomendation we tried from Chef Gordon so if you don't trust me at least trust him:p

We vote for Giuseppi's as well!

Then again the owner is from PA, so we're biased. ;)

Giuseppi's can be a long wait for a table in peak season, We like to call ahead and do take out. We either bring it back to the pool or to the beach. Plus he gives a 10% discount to resort guest. Giuseppi's is in the same strip as the Piggly Wiggly.

In the amterials you get at check-in there will be a list of all the restaurants giving the 10%, and other discounts.

Sign up for the early morning shell hunting trip with the Naturalist. Pay attention to the beach access road and go back on your own the next day. Better yet, take the next road to the north. The fourther north on the island the better the shells. - (oops, gave away my secret )

Enjoy

We have been 6 times 4 at the holidays, once in April and once in July. We loved Y old Oyster Factory, Scott's Fish Market(right at Shelter Cove), Hilton Head diner. When you check-in they will give you a list where you can use DVC discount. We actually like cooking in the resort, the atmosphere is very relaxing, but there are tons of scheduled activities around the resort or at the Beach house. The fast food there is very good. For us, this is the relaxing vacation..not the midnite at the parks like at WDW..Love both.
