Let’s give this a shot…

I’ve read and read many trip reports and pre trip reports here on the DISboards and I’ve learned so much from them, so I figured why not start my own PTR and share some of my own planning and gather ideas from other about my ideas. My trip is getting so close, that I pretty much have everything set to go. 39 days!! I need to do something to keep me busy, so let's try writing a PTR :cool1:

Let me first introduce the characters in this trip:

First there is me. I am 22 years old and just graduated with a degree in Elementary Education! I absolutely love kids, and I am a big kid at heart. The last time I went to Disney I was 8 years old, and I have been wanting to go back and become a little kid again! The thing that I am looking forward to most this trip is bonding with my mom; she is the strongest person I have ever known, and she is my best friend :lovestruc:

So let’s talk about her now. My mom works so hard, in fact I have to beg her to take vacation time in order to relax. Like I said before, she is the strongest person I know…a single mother who had to put up with me and my older brother! I say that jokingly though, because I know that my mom has been so supportive of us, and has kept this family going for so long. My hope for this trip is that she gets to relax away from work and gets to bond with me after I’ve been away from home for four years!

This trip has been one that I’ve waited for for SO long, and when I say SO long….I mean soooooo long; 14 years to be exact. That’s right, 14 LONG years ago I visited Mickey Mouse with my mom and my brother, I was 8 years old…needless to say, I really don’t remember that much. My brother has been twice in the past 6 years with his kiddos, and I was dreaming of going too. I talked to my mom about possibly going as a college graduation celebration and her birthday, and she said if you plan it, we’ll do it!!!!!

I was so excited, I immediately went online to learn as much as I could about Disney and booking a vacation, and tried to find the best deals that I could in order to make it seem like a no brainer to my mom that I could plan a trip and have it be in budget! This all started in November 2010, since we were going to celebrate my graduation, I thought at first we’d be going in May right after my graduation. This wasn’t going to work because I later found out that my mom had planned to take some time off to help me move back home, and relax at my beach house at school before my lease ran out. The next plan was to go during a spring break I had, but we both wanted something to look forward to during the summer, so we of course chose….HOT, HOT August 14-23!! Haha, we laughed at this choice because we swore we would never go in the summer, but here we go!!!

I decided on a value resort, and had my mom choose which one; we ended up with POP Century! We went with a value resort because we wanted to have more of a budget for the dining plan and fun activites while we are there.

Next up was deciding how to get there…that was a struggle to come up with a final plan! In my next post I’ll share with you how we debated the joys and displeasures of driving, wait…um, flying, NO, train riding?? haha to WDW!

Thanks for reading along! :yay:

Hey to any readers, or future readers,

I just wanted to stop in and take a little break in my reporting to let you all know that I just bought my most exciting purchase so far for my Disney vacation….

A SUITCASE, haha…I know, kind of lame, but I needed it, my luggage set from college just ripped, and I need something for my clothes. PLUS, it just means that I get to plan and pack SOON!!

My next posting is two minutes away from being done, so stay tuned! And thanks for reading!

So when I last left off, my mom and I had for sure chosen our resort for our August trip; POP Century! :thumbsup2 The next biggest expense for us to save up for was transportation. At first I thought flying, obviously…but as I looked into flights I was shocked to see that the tickets were almost $600 per person! :scared1: I quickly thought about driving, but threw that idea away when I realized that I would be doing most of the driving, since my mom isn’t the most comfortable driving at night…and that’s when we could make a lot of progress. We waited, and waited to see if flights would drop, and in the meantime, we booked our vacation. 9 nights at POP, with 8 day MYW base tickets, and the regular dining plan! (I’ll post our ADR’s later on in the report!)

It was now May, and we still had no idea how to get down to WDW. I was starting to get nervous that things would sell out, so I hopped onto the DISboards and looked up traveling by train, just for an idea. It sparked an interest, and I looked up prices, and times, and length of trip. I realized that round trip would still be too much for us, but one way train tickets there and a return flight home would be perfect. So since I decided on only a one way train ticket, I looked up our return flight home and saw that it would only be $80 per person…score!! (They were originally $172) :cloud9:

**A little side note here, when I first booked the package through Disney, I never thought that traveling on a Sunday would be so expensive (flight wise), that is why I think tickets down to WDW are still so high**

The finalized plans for our trip:

  • Drive to our local bus station and take a bus into Boston.
  • Catch 1st train to Penn Station, then transfer and ride overnight into Kissimmee (we did not get a sleeper room because that would have added $400 to our train total).
  • From there we’ll probably grab a cab to POP (it’s not a nice comfy bus, but it’ll do).
  • When we leave we’ll take ME to the airport and head home. Oh, that reminds me, I should probably call to set that up since we didn’t know our plans when booking!!
Seems simple, let’s hope so, haha!

**As a little tip for anyone thinking about the train – try to think about it early! I only got our tickets in May for an August trip, the tickets are definitely cheaper the earlier you buy.**

I’m actually really excited to take the train! I hate flying, somehow I still don’t understand how they stay in the air, lol. I’ve been talking to my mom recently about what we’ll bring on the train, and we’re excited to pack our lunch/dinner and relax by playing card games, etc. Sleeping in a coach seat may be a little uncomfortable, and I’m not exactly sure what to expect, but shhhh, don’t tell Mom that…she’s counting on me being the all-knowing this trip! If anyone reading this can provide me with any tips about train travel I would be very grateful!

All in all it was a long process on deciding how we would get there, but the hard part was over…we booked our vacation package through Disney, booked our train tickets there, and booked our flight home! Next up, making my ADR’s!!

Wowwww! You guys got a GREAT deal on transportation. We had to fly Delta because last year on our way home, our flight was delayed for about 5 hours. :headache: But on the bright side, they gave us each $50 vouchers for another flight! That's $100 for free - can't beat that. :thumbsup2

I don't know how much our plane tickets were all together because my mom does all that...I just do all the rest. I dunno, the flight stuff just confuses me. :lmao: But I'm guessing about $400 overall? The $600 per person you mentioned if ridiculous! The train should be fun though! The only train I've been on is the Subway and well those aren't too special..:rotfl:

I like your new luggage! I wanted new luggage this year too but it just wasn't in the budget. :sad2: So I'll be using my trusty Tinkerbell luggage from the Disney Store, haha! I really like it but I wanted one of those suitcases with 4 wheels that do 360 spins..it would be so much easier to roll around the airport. But whatever!

Great start on your PTR!! Congratulations on your graduation!! I am also a fellow graduate, it feels so good to accomplish your goals. By the way, I love that suitcase! Look forward to reading more:goodvibes

Thanks for joining in! Graduating was the most amazing feeling ever, so I want to congratulate you as well, we definitely accomplished a great task!! The suitcase is great so much room, if you can't see the brand, it's called high sierra!!

I'm so glad that our flight back home dropped, paying 150ish each for one way was still high for me...I was so used to the old SW $49 deals, haha! Like I said above, my suitcase is soo roomy, I love it...BUT I've also seen those 360 degree ones and they are awesome!

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I'm reading along too! I'm glad you and Stephanie are both here and on the August weight loss thread. Between the three of us, we are pretty much staying at POP the whole month of August!! Stephanie checks out the day before you arrive then you check out the day before my family and I arrive. That's kind of neat! I can't wait to share POP stories in September!

Also, congratulations on graduating! You deserve the best DISNEY vacation after waiting 14 years to go back!

By the way, I've been thinking about doing a PTR. How do you get the link to show up in your signature?

-Tara

Awesome! I'm hoping for the best trip, a. it's been WAY too long, and b. four long years deserves some celebration!! Thanks for joining :goodvibes it's nice to have some readers! Too bad our trips didn't overlap a little, but I agree that stories will be shared in Sept!!!

To get the link in my signature I went to my profile by clicking on my username, and then went to customize profile. From there you can choose to edit your signature (I believe it's on the left side). You'll then get a box like when you type messages, and then you type what you want to link (your PTR name), highlight it, then choose the "insert link" button at the top and finally copy your PTR link in. The insert link button looks like a globe with a chain link in front of it. I hope that makes sense!!! :surfweb: haha

*edit - it looks like you already have a signature set up, so you may already know how to customize it, sorry if you didn't need that explanation! But I hope the linking makes sense...it's really pretty simple to do.

Thanks! I tried something in the edit signature but I could only get the link (but couldn't rename it). I will try again tomorrow when I have had some sleep!! ;) Thanks for inspiring me to do a PTR!

It's a lot of fun, it helps to pass the time before your trip, and it helps you remember all the things you've planned so far, looking forward to reading more of yours!

That's too funny! We're all taking over Pop in August.
I'm excited to write my first real trip report. It'll make time go by really quick for my November trip! :goodvibes

Too bad they don't overlap! I told my mom about both of you and how we're all reading each others PTR's and she thinks it's neat. :wizard:
Also, thanks so much for writing the step by step of how to change your signature. I just fixed mine up! :thumbsup2

Awesome idea about the train. I've never taken that long of a train trip but my father has done it a lot of times. He seems to think that it's no big deal. He made sure he had some food and magazines and he was fine. I bet the biggest thing will be the anticipating of getting there. 9 nights - AWESOME!

Looking forward to hearing more!!

This is the post that I’ve been waiting to write! For our trip, my mom and I decided to go with the regular dining plan since we wanted to go with having as much as we could paid off. To us, it also made sense since we were excited to try some sit down restaurants in order to slow the pace down a little!

I’m really excited to try some restaurants that are at other resorts, and get a chance to explore. So here you go, our list of ADR’s…I haven’t planned our CS meals too much because I think those will be more of an eat when we’re hungry type deals, but any recommendations are more than welcomed!

8/14 - Arrival Day - hoping to walk up to Beaches and Cream for and OOP dinner, I’m not too sure how likely that is to happen, but we’ll give it a shot. If not we’ll grab something at POP.
8/15 - Ohana's Dinner 9:25pm - hoping to see MK fireworks
8/16 - Le Cellier Lunch 11:35am
8/16 - Teppen Edo Dinner 8:10pm
8/17 - No TS planned
8/18 - Hoop Dee Doo - 9:30pm Cat. 1
8/19 - Kouzinna Dinner - 7:05pm
8/20 - Chef Mickeys' Dinner - 8:10pm
8/21 - Fantasmic Lunch/Dinner Package Mama Melrose - 2:15pm
8/22 - Coral Reef Dinner - 5:25pm - hoping to see fireworks after

So those are our dining plans as of right now. I don’t think that we’ll change them this close to our vacation, especially with places being pretty much booked, but I would love if anyone had any experiences to share about these places! I am enjoying writing up this PTR! I told my mom that I might just have to try and do a TR when we get back, but we’ll see how that goes :)

StephaniexMarie had made a countdown and shared it on her PTR, and I thought that it was so cute. That might be something that I’m going to try to do this weekend, just to pass some time, and to also get EXCITED!!

I would love to share some of my daily plans concerning parks and other activities, so that will be next! Thanks for reading along!

Hi again!!

Still hoping some of you can give me any tips on the ADRs I listed. What did you think if you’ve had food there before, etc.! Thanks :thumbsup2

Today I’m writing about my park plans and some of the extras that we are planning on doing during our trip in 34 days!!! Yeah, I’m getting really excited! I picked up some mickey head paint samples, and I’m totally in the process of making a Disney countdown! I can’t wait; I will post that as soon as it’s done :woohoo:
OneWorldFourParks_small1.gif
Here are the park plans and extras:
*Please let me know what you think!!

Arrival Day - We’ll be heading to POP and checking in, grabbing our mugs, then checking out our room and settling in. I think that the plan will be to head to DTD to shop and then hop over the Beaches and Cream for and OOP dinner.

Park Day 1 - This will be a MK day! Then we have dinner at Ohana's where we are hoping to see the fireworks at MK, if not we have another day there!

Park Day 2 – Epcot day. We have lunch ressies at Le Cellier 11:35am, so we’ll probably catch some rides in future world, and then head to lunch. After that we’ll tour World Showcase and take it nice and slow before our dinner ressies at Teppen Edo at 8:10pm. We won’t see the fireworks tonight since Teppen Edo is indoor I believe, but again, we’ll be here another day! Looking forward to taking our time in the World showcase and not trying to rush through it this day!

Park Day 3 - Today is an AK day! We’re going to try and make it to rope drop (we aren’t early risers, so we’ll see how that goes) and spend a part of our day here. We have tickets to Cirque du Soleil this night for 9pm, so we’ll probably leave AK around 2 or 3, and head to DTD. The plan is to grab dinner at Cookes of Dublin, and then try to see if we can do Characters in Flight before our show. If that doesn’t happen, we’ll walk around and shop before the show and try to catch a flight another night! I'm so excited for Cirque, I've never been to a show, but my mom has in Vegas...she loved it and said that we HAD to see it!
downtown-disney-area_cirque-du-soleil-la-nouba.jpg

Park Day 4 – This day we are planning on going to Typhoon lagoon for the first half of the day, then going HS for the rest of our day. The last time I was in Disney we went to Blizzard Beach, so I'm looking forward to TL. Mom isn't the biggest fan of water parks, but she'll really enjoy the lazy river and some of the slower raft rides here. We’ll leave HS a little early because we have dinner ressies for the Hoop Dee Doo at 9:30pm Cat. 1. We are really excited for this show, and hope that it is as good as everyone says!

Park Day 5 – Another MK day! We will have had a late night the night before, so we will probably take our time getting up, but who knows! We’ll head to MK for the early afternoon, and take a break to do some mini golfing before our dinner ressies at Kouzinna at 7:05pm. MK had EMH this night until 2am, so we will head back over to MK after dinner for that.
mg1.jpg

Park Day 6 – AK day! Spending the whole day here and then heading back to POP to change up for Chef Mickeys' Dinner at 8:10pm. I am really looking forward to this dinner, I have heard bad reveiws about this since I am an adult (kid on the inside) going with mom, but I don't really want to wait in line to get a pic with a character, so this will work for me!

Park Day 7 - HS day! We’ll spend the day here too since we only had a couple hours the first day due to Typhoon Lagoon. We have Fantasmic Lunch/Dinner Package for Mama Melrose's at 2:15pm. So we’ll enjoy that, then tour the park some more before ending, hopefully, with Fantasmic!

Park Day 8 – Our last park day, Epcot! We’ll spend a good amount of time in future world hitting up the favorite rides, and then in WS to see our favorites. We have an earlier dinner ressie at Coral Reef at 5:25pm. We made this ressie on the earlier side because we are hoping to see the fireworks after.

Departing Day - Our flight is for later in the day, so we’ll check out of POP and store our luggage before heading over to DTD for some last minute shopping!

So there you go, our plans for the trip! Hopefully they go pretty smoothly! I’m not too concerned about sticking to the plans 100% because I really just want to enjoy our time in Disney, so if something doesn’t go as planned, it’s no big deal. We also aren’t going to rush to get to all the best attractions. Our motto is: When we get there, we get there. If fastpasses are available, grab them, if not…no worries! Let’s see how that works out :rolleyes1

Thanks for checking in, feel free to read along, or comment on some of my plans. I would really love to hear from some of the Disers who have been to Disney quite a few times and have valuable tips for me. It’s been so long since I’ve been that this is all really new to me!!

I hope my replying doesn't disappoint you because I'm definitely no experienced Disney World expert. My two times there were one and two decades ago and I've never been to a TS restaurant in Disney World before. But I just like your PTR so much that I decided to comment anyway!

I think your ADRs look great! I can't possibly know from first-hand experience but I've been reading these DISboards religiously for months and all the restaurants you listed are very popular and highly recommended! For our upcoming trip we are doing brunch at Chef Mickey's so we can compare breakfast vs. dinner there when we both get back! We are also doing a lunch at Mama Melrose on our DHS day and Fantasmic that night. I didn't know about the "package" that I've heard mentioned on these boards often. What makes it a package?

Your plans also look great. I love how you have it planned out but you're also going to go with the flow once you're there. Also from reading these boards (not first hand experience), I'm certain that's the best way to go. You can't show up to Disney with no plans and expect to get the most out of your trip and you also can't be a complete dictator about following your itinerary to the letter or you might miss out on some spontaneous super fun things! (Although my DH and kids are worried that I've over planned, I'm really going to try to be cool once we're there!!)

You and your mom are going to have so much fun!!!

Your plans sound awesome!! I have some of the same ADRs as you! I am a Disney Newbie and we only had two TS last year:scared1: I had not done my research, but I am ready this year. I am really excited about Ohana and DS cannot wait to eat at Chef Mickey's. I let DS pick two ADRs and he chose Chef Mickeys and Cape May breakfasts:confused3.

We should make it to the BC around 2pm. I hope our room is ready so we can get ready for our 5pm ADR at T-Rex in DTD.

We have a lunch ADRs at LeCellier, Via Napoli and dinner at Citricos. We also have the Mama Melrose Fantasmic! package and the Cape May Clam Bake. I am sooo ready to go to Disney. 14 days left:cool1:

I'm excited to hear about your breakfast at Chef Mickey's. My mom and I aren't really breakfast people, so the plan is to pack some cereal or something to get us by. That's why we don't have any breakfast reservations, maybe just once OOP at POP...we'll see :confused3 I appreciate any of the feedback you gave, no worries about being new, cuz I am too I'll be able to say more in a month lol. The Fantasmic! Dinner package is something where you make a specific reservation for a lunch/dinner at one of three restaurants (sorry I can't remember the other two right now) and you get tickets for reserved seating at the show. The seats aren't right in the center, but off to one side, but it still helps to get into the show!!

I can't wait either!!! It's so exciting that you were able to give some of the planning to your son :thumbsup2 I bet that got him so excited for his trip, not that any little guy wouldn't be excited, lol!!
