What do you eat?

It would be TMI to tell you why, but I started a gluten free diet on Monday and I'm finding out that there is wheat in a lot of things I hadn't even thought about. I love bread so it's very difficult to stay away from that. And pasta. And cereal. And crackers. And...and...and....

So, what do you snack on? I have fresh fruit, and natural applesauce with a sprinkling of cinnamon, and celery/carrots, etc. but I'd like some other things too.

Do you buy the gluten free breads/crackers, etc. in health food stores? I looked on Amazon.com for gluten free products and it seems like they are quite expensive.

So, tell me, what do you guys eat? I need ideas.

And is there a good chat/message board, like this one, for people with wheat allergies?

I was just diagnosed with celiac disease and I have found myself eating a lot more candy and potato chips than I did before. Meat, potatoes and vegatables have to take the place of pasta and bread when eating out. I just bought some of that gluten-free food at Kroger, but all of it has to be prepared (not ready to eat,) so it is still sitting in the cabinet so far. I'm not much of a cook.

Our Godson has a wheat allergy.
There are lots of products out there for people who can't have wheat.
He has Tapioca bread for toast and sandwiches, and you can also buy break mixes that make pizza dough, french bread and regular loaves of bread.
Those take some getting used to, and the directions are CONFUSING, but if you follow the common sense of making bread you will do ok.

We also found brownie and cake mixes that taste really good and they buy corn pasta, that you really can't tell is any different than regular pasta.

She shopped the healthfood stores to find things at first, but found it was cheaper to order the things they use a lot in bulk from Amazon.

I don't know brand names off the top of my head, but if you are intereted I can ask my friend what she uses.

For a message board you could try celiac.com. I would not try to replace bread until you have had a chance to forget what it tastes like. Some fast food places will list the gluten free menu on web site. It is handy to have a list. Most meat is goo watch for seasoning. Lays staxs are made on dedicated lines so safe. Most candy. Good luck

Popcorn, gluten free pretzels, tostitos, and ice cream (Edy's). On the box of chex cereal there is a good snack mix that you can make with chocolate and powdered sugar. The chocolate chex cereal is also a good snack. Frozen fruit bars.

Anything made with rice or corn flour is good, my BFF has Celiac's. We actually have a bakery in Davis CA that makes gluten free foods, she buys pastas and breads from them, they are pricey but they are very very good! She eats Chex cereals, gets gluten free crackers, buys the gluten free cake, cookie, brownie mixes, Betty Crocker just came out with some gluten free mixes that are really very very good! I made regular and gf brownies for her Bachelorette party, the gf were better then the regular ones! :)
