Hey Stephen King fans

Loved The Stand :scared1:

Just purchased THE DARK TOWER V Wolves of the Calla...but can't start reading it until all my Christmas Shopping is done and presents wraped because if I start nothing else will get done.

It's tough for me to choose between The Stand, It and The Talisman....I guess if I had to, I'd pick The Stand. I think I've read it over 10 times.

As for the conversion to movie topic....I don't think any of the movies have done their counterpart justice, with the exception of Misery. I didn't care for the book all that much, but the movie had excellent acting.

MY FAVORITE SHORT STORY WAS THE MIST ALSO....Most of the Mist was written about places that I grew up with......We camped all summer at Sebago and then Long Lake and Brighton were right there.....got really spooked though when he mentioned Serenity Hill......we went to Friday or Saturday night dances there.......
The hospital that king recuperated at when he was hit by that car was in my back yard......I can see the hospital from the back.....very eerie as I have been in that hospital a zillion times......and would shudder to think of a child crying in the hallways.......YIKES.......
ANother good author if you guys would like to try is the team of
Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston......The Relic ....The Reliquary.....Cabinet of Curiosities .....all mega good good books......so try one and you will be hooked again

Favorite King novel THE STAND, followed closely by IT.

My fave is Eyes of the Dragon... so different for him! A close second is the Green Mile, which I devoured as it came out, buying each chapter the day it was available. I even tracked down a copy of one chapter in the Orlando airport on my way home from a trip!

I thought they did a good job of adapting the Green Mile to the screen, but the Stand miniseries was probably the best imho. It's such a long and complex story to translate, yet it all made sense.

My favorite was IT. It really creeped me out! I still hear the words "We all float down here." Ewww! I read this book years ago and it still gives me chills! From a Buick 8 was also good and so was Misery. I love all of SK's books!

Ok, let's add to the current question of which one King novel is your favorite.

Who is your favorite character from a King novel or short story?

Roland. Dark & creepy but really just a nice guy with some issues.

The thickness of The Stand has always prevented me from reading it, but I did like the movie!

I guess my favorite would either be the Shining or It.

I've also thought about the flu, and how it is so widespread throughout the country right now, especially in my town here where the local hospital can't keep up with admissions of the flu and complications from the flu! It does make ya wonder!

I'm happy to read that there will be a new Stephen King mini series, he is long overdue! Can't wait! I love Andrew McCarthy!

Ooooh, I hadn't even thought of that!!! Creepy! I should read The Stand again. I've found I can only read Stephen King books 2-3 times though, because after that, I just know what to expect and it's not as much fun. Meanwhile, I've read Gone With The Wind over 10 times. Just a little quirk of mine.

My favorite King book is Needful Things. There are soooooo many good ones though, I actually sat here debating with myself for about 5 min before deciding on my fav. The Stand! No...Insomnia!! No...Needful Things! No......Rose Madder! :bounce: :Pinkbounc Can't I just cheat and say "All of them except Dreamcatcher and Desperation!"??? Meanwhile, I haven't liked any of the movies I've seen. Just sold my DVD of The Stand. I just couldn't get into it. I have Dreamcatcher sitting here, bought it just because it's a Stephen King, and it has Donnie Wahlberg in it. But I can't bring myself to watch it. I don't do horror movies. LOL

Oh yeah...Needful Things was another good translation of the book....again due to great casting and acting. Can't go wrong with Ed Harris.

As far as my favorite character, I have to pick Wolf from The Talisman. :( Poor ol' Wolf.....

Is my Favorite, cause it was his FIRST published work, besides the Short Stories!;) Also, Salem's Lot and Christine, and Needful Things, and Misery, and......well the list goes on!:o Didn't care too much for the Dark Tower series, or Insomnia! Also, Desperation, couldn't get into that one!

Salem's Lot was the first King novel I read. I thought it was great...but then the movie kind of ruined it for me. Now all I can see is Starsky....or is it Hutch? Well David Soul...ack.

To some degree the same thing happened with the Shining. I'm not a big Nicholson fan, nor a Shelly Duvall fan...double ack.

The only 3 that came out as movies that I thought hey did Ok on were The Green Mile, Stand By Me (The Body) and Shawshank Redemption.

I can't remember if I didn't like The Regulators or Deperation... it's whichever one came second that I was confused with.

I'm also a big fan of Eyes of The Dragon. It was one I couldn't put down.

I refuse to read the DT series until I have all of them in my hands. I'll forget what happened in the last book otherwise. It's for that reason that I have yet to read Black House, I read The Talisman so long ago I forgot what happened :)

I agree, three more that lived up to the novel or short story.

It is not necessary to re-read Talisman before Black House. While it is a sequel, more or less, there's not much continuity between the two.
