Ok, I know they are good for the economy, but I wish there was a lane on the sidewalk for tourists and one for people who need to be somewhere quickly! AHHHH! Went to Macy's at lunchtime...people walk soooooo slow and take up the whole aisle.

I know - its really crowded - people stop and take pictures right in the middle of the sidewalk - I guess its the price to pay for living in the greatest city in the world!

This week is the Nascar awards at the Waldorf - my building is right by it - soon the streets will be crawling with Nascar fans!!!

sounds like WDW to me.

;)

I work two blocks away from Radio City Music Hall. Maybe it's best I don't go out over lunch, because my heart hasn't grown it's required two sizes yet.

We call the tourists, especially the ones in Rockefeller Plaza, "The Tree People." Which reminds me, the lighting to tonight, so I'm jumping ship early!

Hi fellow NYers! :wave2: The tourists are why I stay away from Macy's--which is good for my pocketbook! But when the Disney Store was on 34th Street I used to brave the crowds to go there. Thankfully, I am nowhere near Radio City, but I do have to deal with the tourists going home on the LIRR!

Luckily my office is down by Union Square and I live on the East Side. I try not to go West of 5th Avenue until January (except for the ONE TIME stroll down 5th to see the decorations).

Oh - so that would explain all the baracades up on 5th avenue!!! I think an early exit to queens is needed tonight!

Nick,

I was born in Brooklyn. I am a true product of the "outer boroughs".

Never made it to Bartini Thanksgiving, btw.

Proud borough member here also!! I had to say it the other day - We are neighbors - Middle Village here! LOL! My friend wanted me to go there this weekend! Im not a huge fan of the place though!

What time does the tree lighting start?

I think the "festivities" start at 7 but I'm sure they'll be tons of people there now.

I used to work in Times Sq so I got to encounter the "slow walkers" and picture takers all year round.

Yep, the tourists are out in full force throughout the city. I work near Lafayette and East Houston, smack on the edge of SoHo and NoHo. I must have one of those faces that out-of-towners trust. Never fails that when I go out of the office, I get "Hi, can you tell me how to get to...."

Doesn't bug me though. If they're going in my direction, I even invite them to walk along. Love to shock tourists by showing the New Yorker's aren't the evil mean people they sometimes think!

Joe's the same way but he's the one the goes up to them. The minute he sees a map open up on the sidewalk, he strolls up, "Needhelp?Youlost?CanIhelpyou?" He usually scares the bejesus out of 'em.

As for 5th Avenue, I only go once per the Christmas holiday. It's like Main Street right after the fireworks! Yeesh! The reason I go is when my Mom is in town and she wants to shop. Hateithateithateithateihateit.

ok - those Nascar cars are LOUD!!!! they started right at the corner of our building! we were making all kinds of jokes about the viagra car! :rotfl2:

at least the decorations are all pretty :flower: now i'm really glad that i'll be in the world in 10 days!! :cool1:

Im jealous Scubamouse - I want to go - I am going to FLA the weekend of Dec 17th but to Miami! I am thinking about driving up for one day!

I have a question-my husband recently started working for the company that owns Rockefeller Center--as an employee they are offered tickets to the tree lighting, we didn't take them because I thought it would be too much of a hassle, but maybe next year..anyway my question-
the tickets were for an area called the Channel..supposedly there are 2 buildings that are supposed to represent England and France, and the channel is in between the two.
Would this be a good area to be in for the festivities? If we wouldn't be able to see anything anyway, I'll skip next year too.

Edit: Forget it--I just googled the Channel Gardens and I know exactly where it is now. Thanks!

Yes - France is on the left and England the right if your looking from Sacks 5th avenue - it is the long pathway that leads from 5th towards the Center - probably the best place to view it!

Yup, I went out for lunch, turned around and came back to the office! It is such a beautiful day - everyone is out. I'm near Times Square, and it is also matinee Wednesday! It is like Main Street around here today!!

I'll be one of those "slow walker" tourists on Saturday! I've never been to NYC nevermind during Christmas when its all decorated so I'm sure a lot of people will step on me when I stop in the middle of the sidewalk. Sorry in advance!

I live in Brooklyn and was in the city on Monday night at the American Girl store. I couldnt believe how many people there were at Rockefeller Plaza just for the rehearsal for the tree lighting! Glad I won't be going tonight, much better to watch from home. Went in once for it and you couldnt even cross the street. But New York is such a wonderful place to come to at the Holiday Season, Saks has all these beautiful snowflakes on the side of the building at night and the store windows look great.

I see! I wasn't thinking it would be such a great spot-I think we'll definately go next year, then!

Saturdays, you're supposed to be a tourist! So stop & stare all you want.
