Just wondering if anyone's planning on taking advantage of Saturday's tax-free shopping day? We need a new couch and I've already picked it out and will save over $100 on Saturday! Trying to think of some other things that we'll be needing.

I just started contemplating moving that purchase of a new TV up a little to buy it this Saturday. I don't know, though.

Tax-free shopping day? This is the first I've heard of it. I don't live in Mass. anymore, but I don't remember there ever being a tax-free shopping day. That's pretty neat.

While at Target last night I kept thinking, this purchase can wait until Saturday. They also had a big sign as you entered the store to explain the tax free Saturday rules. I think it's limited to purchases of $2500 or under, must be paid in full and no cars.

I'm almost afraid to go shopping on Saturday if the crowds are too crazy.

Well, c'mon down! It's a one-day only thing. There is a $2500 limit and some purchases (cars, boats, etc) are not eligible. I think they're trying to boost the economy - it's been on the Boston news a lot in the last few days.

Well...let me see if I can help, since I am doing some programming to get our stores ready for this:

Any single item, purchased for your own personal use with a price of under $2500 is tax exempt on Saturday. If it is over $1000 there is a form you will need to sign for the DOR to say it is for your own personal use.

Items NOT included are: motor vehicles, boats, meals, telecommunication devices and services, gas, steam, and electricity.

There are a few caveats, such as bundled transactions (ie computers, if the price is less than $2500 it is exempt, if the price is more than $2500, but broken out ie keyboard, mouse, monitor, CPU, it is STILL taxable because it is normally sold together.)

This will also apply to layaways, so if you buy it, and pay for it on Saturday, but cannot pick it up or take delivery until later, you still get the tax benefit.

Any specific questions, fire away, I will do my best to answer them.

How about park hopper tickets? Do they get rung up as purchases in MA, or Florida? I have 3 passes to pick up before the end of the month, should I pick them up Saturday?

Wow, I'll be visiting Mass. saturday, am I eligable?

I could not find anything in any of the codes we have that says they would NOT be eligable, but... there is a line in one of our handouts from the DOR about 'use tax' and different states. Yes, you will be buying them in MA, but you will clearly be using them in FL. If you are close to a Disney Store, it would CERTAINLY be worth checking with them.

Freshtressa, same with you, the whole 'use tax' in different states seems very gray to me, but if you did not actually advertise you were not from MA, I don't see why it couldn't work.

I could be wrong but I think when we got our APs in a MA Disney Store we paid Florida tax, not MA. I dont even know why I think that, but its ringing a bell to me. ;)

Nah. I live 2 minutes away from NH and usually shop there anyway, simply because it's closer than most of the shopping in MA.

Yes, you do pay FLORIDA tax on Parkhoppers purchased in other states. But since I live (and buy) in NH, I am not sure if you would also pay an additional MA tax under normal circumstances. I don't think so because that would be double tax, but I'm not sure. ...................P

I saw a sign at BJ's, but didn't realize it was the whole state...I thought it was just their stores. So I guess that digital camera I want at Target maybe purchased on Saturday. I'm not that close to NH, so I'd spend more in gas, than what the 5% sales tax will cost me.

all Disney Tickets have the florida tax only charged to them. I doubt they will be included in the No Tax day !! But it would be no harm in asking at your local disney store or Triple A in your area.

wonder if airline tickets are included?

I'm getting a new (bigger) tv on Saturday. It was so nice for Massachusetts to give me a tax free day to shop, and right before football started :teeth:

I bought my park hopper tickets ( at a Disney store) in New Hampshire where we have no sales tax. I thought this would be an andvantage of being able to buy them in NH. I had to pay Florida sales tax on my purchase because the tickets were for a Florida attraction. :(
