we aren't looking for a smokey bones or other chain type place. more of a one of a kind, real folks cooking real BBQ kind of a place.

any suggestions? we don't mind driving a bit.

Here's the one you want: Bubbalou's Bodacious Bar-B-Cue. Well worth the short drive.

Edited to add: This is the location you want. It's a little over a mile down the road from Universal Orlando.
Bubbalou's Bodacious BBQ - Kirkman Road
5818 Conroy Road
Orlando, FL 32835

Telephone: 407.295.1212

I also love love Bubbalou's Bodacious Bar-B-Cue. My best friends from college live in Orlando. We always eat here on my first night of any visit. Nice prices too! I currently live in Tennessee, so BBQ is taken pretty seriously around here.

I was going to suggest Sonny's! Aww man, I miss that place! Ya-Yas too!

I'll say "yea" to both of those places. Bubbalous is a great local, non-chain place. Sonny's is very good as well, and it originated in Gainesville, FL (Go Gators!).

:thumbsup2 Allwright A another GATOR FAN:thumbsup2 You know your history also!!:thumbsup2

We eat at Sonny's a lot. I love their Brunswick stew. Of course, we live in Gainesville, FL so it's right across the street from us.

we got hooked on little one shop BBQ places a few trips ago. while driving we got off at an exit on 95 in either N or S Carolina and there was NOTHING (nothing - no gas station, no houses, nothing except fields and this shack. it was great! gotta love a road trip.)
at this exit except a shack that sold some of the freaken BEST BBQ any of us have even eaten. my first experience with mustard based BBQ sauce. Wow, so good.

we have done sonny's and smokey bones on previous trips to Orlando (as well as Gator's dockside for wings - they rule!) but we wanted to try something different and Bubbalou's sounds like the ticket! thanks. i am adding that info to my list of trip info and off to google earth to chart my course from Windsor Hills to Bubbalou's.

thanks again. my mouth is already watering!

ok, one more BBQ question....

what the heck are Brunswick stew and Texas caviar? have never heard of either.

YEP I love them. For some reason I do not think you can just buy a whole rack of ribs for dinner. When it gets to the rack they charge by the lb. If it were up to me however, I would buy 3 , eat 2 and take one for the driveLOL. Thankfully the price to purchase the meal is very reasonable and so therefore, I do not act like a glutton and when I leave I only have to unbutton just the waist band of my shorts...not buy a new size.

That's never been my experience. :confused3

I thought maybe something had changed but I just looked at their online menu and it clearly says a baby back rib dinner is $13.99. (Great price in comparison to other BBQ places.) That comes with three sides of your choice and garlic bread. And I know that's been a full rack because I've split it with my son. It's 12-14 ribs.

Well maybe they changed it b/c I would know if it were a full rack. I cannot wait to go back and see. In the past they would not sell you the full rack in a dinner. 12-14 ribs! YES!!! I hope you are right!

Love Bubbalou's and we eat at the Sonny's up on Rt 50 in Ocoee. From time to time Sonny's some great "all you can eat" specials. In April it was Ribs and were just running pork and chicken for $7.99
Our favorite in the area is a real hole in the wall spot on 9th street in nearby Winter Garden called Willies Bar-b-que . Only open a few days a week( at least we hope they are still open.)pirate:
