Hey I am orginally form Philly but now live in California. California does not now what good pizza is:confused3 . Some of the best stuff here is at Costco:faint: . So while I am in Florida I would love to have some good east coast pizza. The closer to Disney World the better.

Thanks
John

We love Flippers Pizza. There are a few locations, but we like the one on Westwood by Sea World. Here are the specifics: 6125 West Wood Blvd.
Phone Number: 407-345-0113.

Here's another vote for Flipper's. We aren't locals, but Flipper's is our stop between MCO and WDW.

giordanos.com

It's chicago style pizza(their main location IS in Chicago), ranked the 'best pizza in the USA' by the Today show I believe, and having lived in Chitown for 6 years, I have to say that I agree.

I am headed to Chicago on Thursday (flying from Buffalo) for a girls weekend and Giordanos is our first stop for dinner on Thursday night! Can't wait!

Nothing by our house but will have to try Flipper's. Is Flipper's NY Style? Thin and greasy? Yum! They just opened one at the Crossroads. We drive over to Indialantic (to visit the relatives) and hit Bizzaro's on the beach. Arguably home of the world's larget slices.pirate:

That's fantastic news that Flipper's has a new location at the Crossroads Shopping Center.

I just emailed them to ask if they will have delivery to Disney's Old Key West Resort. I sure hope they do.

Florida(central anyway) has no good food never mind good pizza lol. I have lived here for 13 years and it hasn't gotten any better.:( Mom and pop shops are pretty much non existent. If you like chains than you will do fine.

I grew up in Boston so I have high standards for food I guess. I do a lot of eating when I go back for visits.

We live just outside of Tampa and have a fantastic "mom & pop" pizza place near us. It is NY style and very tasty. So there is hope for Florida.

Remember, many NY'ers move to Florida upon retirement. Several have opened restaurants throughout the sunshine state.

Let me know if they email you back, I'd like to know the answer to that question too.

It still is not the same. I was told it is something about the water here. It effects the dough. That is why the bread is not as good either. Ever try to have a decent sub here? :worried: I have had slightly better food in Largo and Clearwater than in the Orlando area-I'll give you that. :) I'm not sure if we just get used to the food rather thant the food getting better though lol.

Actually it's not really the water that would affect it, so much as the air.....or more specifically the spores in the air, as in yeast.

That's why you can take the exact same recipe for Sourdough that is made is San Francisco and it will never ever taste the same anywhere away from the Bay.....even 100 miles away it's not the same sour.

New York also has great dough because being by the ocean.....yes there is an entire coast on both sides of the nation, but NY and SF are the ones that take advanatage of it and therefore are famous for their breads/doughs.

You can purchase starters from SF (probably NY too, never tried)....and it's CLOSE....but still not as tangy and sour, because while the starter starts out well, it's still the local air that flavored it afterwards.

I also vote for Giordano's! ::yes::

It's absolutely the BEST pizza our family has ever tried!!! We 'discovered' the restaurant back in 2001 and now make it a point to stop at least once each trip.. usually twice!

We get our pizza from a little place in St. Cloud. They serve NY style better then NYPD and cost less. It's a good sign when slices are always fresh. Sadly, I can't remember their name.

OP, i feel for ya. being from Philly you are correct that if you leave the NY, Jersey, Philly area....you just are not gonna find the same type of pizza. (nor will you find a good cheese steak, but that is a different thread. and yes, the bread has alot to do with it, as does the Wiz.)

we have close friends who relocated from jersey to clermont and they agree that the bread and pizza are the two items they can't get a close substitue for in central florida. and yes, they have also heard it has something to do with the water there in central fl.

we may try NYPD out of morbid curiosity. oh, and my son wants to try CiCi's cause he is a sucker for any kind of buffet.

DH absolutely LOVES Giordano's. It's our first stop in Chicago and in Florida. I like Flippers better b/c I tend to favor NY style pizza. Both are really good though. Glad to hear Flippers has a new location in Crossroads!

Good news, the new Flipper's Pizzeria at Crossroads delivers. ::yes::

Here's the number 407-938-9633.

also vote for Giordano's! It is my DH's favorite pizza. We always rent a car and one of the reasons we do so is so we can make a trip to eat here. They also deliver...at least they did to Pop Century.
