Come on JoAnn... Shoo Fly Pie came about ,because the farmer' s wife was using raisons in the pie,and the wife would wave the fly's away as it cooled on the window ledge ,"shoo fly's Shoo Fly's".... and some fell in....!! what the heck they look the same.....!! :rotfl:

We're in for the brown bag thing...!! what's the price limit,etc...??

Well, that bit of history sounds very lovely....can't wait to have shoo fly pie...tee hee.

So, are we doing one bag per family? Per person? I guess it would be fair to set a price limit, that makes it easy on everyone.

I'm NOT bragging, but I do make a great shoo-fly pie - people pay me
to make them. My shoofly has molasses on the bottom, real gooey
molasses, and the rest is like a coffee cake, with crumbs on the top - no
nuts. I am a Pa. Dutchperson at heart - it is my favorite pie - but
none of my family eats it (let's not even 'go there' about my family).
I do believe Bill's story is correct....about 'shooing the flys".
Unfortunately, this is NOT an item that can 'travel' to California....
hey, Lynn, guess you'll just need to invite me to UK to make you one!
By the way, are you going to be at Disney at Christmas too, we are also.

Would no more than $10 as a limit be too much, or too little - we don't
want to bring alot of stuff - believe me, i'll be bringing enough clothing along...I wish I could pack lightly - but if I can't decide whether to bring or
not to bring an item of clothing, I bring it, and I never wear half the stuff because I do laundry on the ship. Hey, Lisa, can you find an item for $10 on Rodeo Drive?

My allergies are killing me lately (and my sons) - everything is blooming in PA.

Hi Lucy we will be at WDW 17th - 24th Dec then on the Magic 24th - 31st Dec. Will we be able to meet again? We are meeting up with all 3 families that we sailed with in Dec 2003 and then all crusing together again. We all booked on board last time.

O.k. so let me get this straight............ Each family will bring one bag with items representing their area of the world. The limit is $10. Is this correct?
I think this sounds like fun.

I am with JoAnn though........can't wait until school's over. Went on a study trip yesterday and a student had a severe asthma attack. His rescue inhailer did NOTHING for him. I ended up at the hospital with him 35 miles from home. I am still stressed from that experience! I was really freaked. It's different when it's your own child. Thanksfully he is fine and will be back to school tomorow. It's funny....I've taught 21 years now and that was another new experience!!!

Will we get excursion papers soon? I don't want to miss out on the Dolphin thingy!!!

TGIF tomorrow gang!!! :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Ok, sorry to hear that Jenny, that's terrible!!

I guess this means I HAVE to go to Disney at Christmas, I'll tell my DH!

Anyway, about the shoo fly pie, I forgot about the "Shoo Fly" part, forgive me, you would think that my ol' dad would have told me that before now!!!
I was on the right track, anyway. (At least SOMEONE tried to answer Lynn's question in a timely manner!) :guilty:

Ok, so about the bags............I thought we said that we would make a "family bag" with something from our area which we could give to each of us when we arrive.........Is that right?? :cloud9:

BTW, when I was in CA, and we went to Rodeo Drive, since I felt like perhaps we were out of our element.............we went to NIKETOWN and went crazy buying workout clothes..........it was really fun............they had these expensive T-shirts (which looked like nothing special-we didn't buy them- for like 65 dollars!!) :earseek:

It was so cool, I think we might have to go back this summer and try to bump into Stars again!!

Anyone notice that soon WE WILL BE WITHIN 2 MONTHS + of our trip!! :hourglass

Joann I appreciated the timely response and all the answers gave me a fuller picture of Shoo Fly Pie :flower: I think an Xmas reunion in WDW sounds great!
Lucy you would be welcome to come and cook it for us here in the UK at anytime, however last year when we came to Maryland each family tried to cook something regional from thier home state/country and I found it really hard to make anything because the ingredients were just different. So on the back of this experience I feel the best way forward would be for us to come to PA so you could cook the pie for us :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Please stop rubbing in the end of school thing!!!!
What are 4th graders? Our year 4 children are 8 in September and have their 9th birthday in year 4 is that the same?
The asthma attack must have been scary Jenny, I speak as an asthmatic and a teacher, other peoples children a big responsibility and on a field trip ugh

Jenny-What a scary moment that must have been. Poor you and poor kidlet! My Dad is an asthmatic and I watched him almost die once--nothing was working. I never felt so helpless in my entire life, watching him struggle for each nugget of breath. I'll never forget it.

Lynn-most 4th graders here would be between 9-10 years of age.

Everyone-I think we agreed one bag per family filled with $10 of local treasure(s). Sounds like fun!

:teeth:

but I will not speak again until I hear from Leslie - where is she -
Leslie, everything ok? We miss you.....and Bill too - JoAnn - have you 'cut him off'?
This is a joke, you know. Me, not 'talking' :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

This weekend's weather is going to be awful - rain, rain, rain - it has
really turned colder again, but my seasonal allergies are really acting up.
I need to move to Arizona, but without hearing from Leslie, how can I? :confused3

Jenny - so sorry to here about your emergency - that would scare the
devil out of me. I just want this school year to be OVER, and I'm not
even a teacher!

We have been a little busy of late. Nordstrom has put on two charity fashion shows here in the last few weeks. Tomorrow's show is at the famous Biltmore resort.

We paid off our trip today. We were waiting for Nordstrom stock to hit $60, but it just keeps varying between 53 and 56. Being that it was at 16 only two years ago, we are still extremely happy. It's all about those stock options. Anyway, paid it off and will just wait before we sell a few shares.

Think we will bring a scorpion and a rattlesnake for the bag. That would be totally Arizona. Who wants the bag?!

Not bad as far as the heat index goes today. Overcast and only 87 degrees. Not looking forward to the 116 days of summer. By the way, heard it will be very hot and humid for our cruise.

Wow, I like the sound of that weather. :cloud9: Our weather is presently horrific!

YES, he's cut off ever since the weekend trip here..........it's a long story.....(JKJKJKJKJKJK) :love2:

Most of my class is about 10 years old now, they have been feisty lately....it seems like they don't want to grow up and be more mature for 5th grade. Hopefully, they'll settle down soon!! :smooth:

Leslie-I think I'll pass on your bag...yikes :earseek:

Hot and humid...I was hoping it would be nice. Last summer it wasn't super humid down there, but every year is different.

Hi Kids.... Well let me point out what a tremendous soccer player JoAnn's daughter has become (Jessica)...She recently joined the High School soccer team, which is commendable since she is only a freshman .... :cheer2: princess:
We watched her play the other Sat, and she holds her own against some bigger gals....recently she has been scoring goals...As you would imagine JoAnn keeps us up to date on how Jess is playing :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc  We think its terrific, my concerns are the size and weight differance's could lead to injuries.. Oh, bythe by,the guy who really has his chest sticking out, is good ol Dad (Jess's father) he has spent many hours taking Jess to practices,training,etc...I notice ,we don't hear much about the guy,but He's pretty important in these circles.. :love2:
I'm wondering ..would a dirty thong be considered representing New Jersey..?? in some circles .....I suppose...!! :Pinkbounc

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl: I can't even comment, I can hardly type :earseek:

NO RATTLESNAKE BAG FOR US!! :sad2: My DH is so mortified of snakes that he has terrible nightmares about them! :scared: He can't look at pictures, shows, etc. We can't even joke about them. Now that's a fear!!!

Our weather today is AWFUL! It was snowing a few minutes ago!!! :cold: Last week our kids were wearing shorts and it was 80 degrees! I had to get out this morning to get the kids (stayed at my mom's :rolleyes1 ) and I couldn't get warm!!!!

You know JoAnn, your daughter might want to come to Indiana to play soccer when she goes to college. We have one of the top college programs in the nation at IU!! It's so neat to hear Bill brag on the g'kids! Hey Bill, someone on another thread was suggesting lime green thong suit! Go for it!!

Lucy~ When are finals at your school? Our students start finals next week. I love when the students leave for the summer. The town is all ours again. You can actually get into the restaurants!!!

Soon we will be less than 3 months..........anyone else psyched!! I can't wait to hear about the first trip out!! :goodvibes

I'm back again, now that we've heard from Leslie and Bill.
Leslie - about YOUR bag.....just keep on passing it please.
I would love for you to pass along some warm weather. PA is nasty
today - around 40 degrees this afternoon, and ready to rain.
The heat went on in the house again. Yesterday turned out to be a
perfect day for the wedding we attended - so glad to be going to a
happy and loving celebration.
Jenny - thank goodness, this is the last week of classes at the
university, then finals the first week of May. So funny, your comment -
my husband always says - "I want my town back".
Teachers: my 13 yr. old (7th grader) is getting worse - he absolutely
refuses to do any work for school, or at least the smallest amount, just
to get by - we can't stand it. - we've taken everything away we can from
him. We are stressed - his last day is June 8 - it is going to be a very long
month of May.
JoAnn - I am also anxious to hear reports from the west coast cruise - it is getting closer for them.

I think the "cruise" bug is hitting DH too. He has been on the internet all weekend looking for our baseball tickets!

We discussed excursions today, but he is so frustrated with the dolphin costs, given what they cost not through Disney. We are at their mercy though. I am willing to go as an "observer" if it means the kids can go, but we'll have to see. I printed the forms today off the DCL website and it says 60 days. I though we could book excursions at 90 days. Are we going to get any information before then???? Has anyone spotted a thread where they received the excursion information prior to the docs? I can't remember from our previous cruise how this was arranged. :confused3

Lucy~ I feel your pain with the school "attitude". :sad2: I have threatened the "if it has batteries or plugs in to the wall" you will lose it!!!!! :badpc: It's mainly DS8 who makes no bones about being sick of school! Maybe he will
"see the light" and May won't be so rough. :teacher:

Jenny-you might want to check out www.shoretrips.com. I've heard a bunch of good things about them from cruisecritic.com and they do have a dolphin excursion in PV. Not sure if the price is less than disney but it's worth a look. Another place to look is www.vallartaonline.com. We booked the pirate cruise which is the exact same one that is offered by disney for about $55 less than DCL!!!!! We'll be walking to the meet the captain of the pirate ship with the people who booked it through DCL but we'll be smiling because we paid less than them!

YES, I'm very psyched!!!! Can't wait for the cruise to begin........ :teeth:
