Hey, Florida girls - do you wear white after Labor Day?

Being from Kentucky, we are used to the fashion rule that you don't wear white after Labor Day. I am wondering if this holds true in Florida as well? I have a pair of white capris and a pair of white espadrilles that I would like to wear to dinner one night at Narcoossee's. Will everyone be shocked?!? ;)

I know some of you will think this is ridiculous, but its just one of those things you're brought up "not to do," and its hard to go against that upbringing sometimes! Thanks for any help! :flower:

Rules..........where I live there are no rules......... :sunny:

Wear the white.

I'm planning on wearing white capri's to Narcoossees next week so we'll be in the same boat if it's not okay!

Yep I see it all the time. I honestly didn't think it was still a rule anymore. :confused3 Maybe just not in Florida.

I normally don't wear too much white anyways, because I am a magnet for dirt when I do.

I'm still wearing white, in fact I do all year.

Thanks, Ladies! That's what I wanted to hear!

And Honeypooh, let me know if they kick you out! :flower:

I don't wear pure white, except for tops, after Labor Day. Most of the people I see who do are tourists, or people who have moved here recently. I live in an area of town that has mostly native Floridians (of many generations) so things are different. I've even put away most of my pastels.

I might be tempted to wear white in Orlando, or down state, however.

Native Southerners (ie, *real* Southern Belles) would never do such a thing.

But don't let that stop you. ;)

Oprah says the new rule is of its 80 degrees or higher, white works.
I like that rule! It has been in the high 80's here pretty much since Labor Day and I am having the hardest time trying to find shoes to wear w/ my warmer weather clothes! I have some white sandles that go, but I just can't bring myself to wear them. Oprah also has a rule about wearing slips...something about if all your going to see is your legs, you don't need to worry about a slip!

For the OP, I think I would wear them in Florida! After all it is the Sunshine State! :sunny:

Not a chance! I don't care that it's still 90 degrees out, I don't wear white pants or shoes (don't even own those) after Labor Day.

I am not a huge fan of white...but if I had something I liked and wanted to wear I would - and what about women who get married after Labor day - should they wear some other color?:)

Not a big fan of white either---4 kids equal 4 pairs of hands. :rotfl2: But I say wear whatever you want!

I like Oprah's rule, but I'd probably change it to 75 degrees myself. :flower:

I'm wearing white pants and sandals with my All American shirt today. I may not be a fashion icon, but I'm not a fashion victim either!

We had this discussion at work today. One of the co-workers wants to get a pair of white boots, and another co-worker (a man) told her she cannot wear white after labor day. She said; "So, what are they gonna do, arrest me?" :rotfl: I piped in that I thought it was a "northern NY thing." And that Florida is exempt! :p

Not wearing white after Labor Day is as old of a rule as ladies having to wear gloves and hats. It's outdated. There are very few women still adhere to that so called fashion rule and most of them are shall we say "older". Florida is wonderfully casual all year long. We wear sandals and shorts most of the year too. Oprah's over 80 degree rule might apply in Chicago but it's doesn't really apply here. We are still in the 90's down here and autumn is no where near. Fashion changes and so do the rules. Some people won't wear white after a certain date but they will wear clothes they have had for 5 or more years, LOL. ;)

Wear whatever you want and have a great time. :goodvibes

Hey! I resemble that! I won't wear white, in Florida, after Labor Day, but I wear clothes that are over five years old. I've got various cashmere sweaters that are well over five years old, still like new, and I'm not getting rid of them simply because of their age. It's not like turtlenecks go out of style...

Haven't read the whole thread so I don't know if this has been posted or not.

One of the rules on What Not to Wear states that white is okay after Labor Day!!
