Took the kids to see Barnyard yesterday. It really does have it's moments....some even could cause a moist eye....but the story line is very similar to The Lion King in so many ways.

I'd give it a 6 out of 10. The kids found it to be entertaining, and it was not painful for the parents to watch either.....but, we all kept commenting "haven't we seen this somewhere before?"

Saw previews for "Charlotte's Web" coming out in December. The previews looked pretty good, but does every kid's movie have to have a gas-passing scene now...?

we told the kids they could wait till it came out on video (looks duuuuuuuuumb). and what is the deal with male cows and udders??????

Haven't seen Barnyard yet. My kids do want to see it soon, tho.

We saw the preview to Charlotte's Web also, a couple of months back.
My kids can't wait til that comes out in theaters! We have the original Charlotte's Web movie my dd loves to watch now and then.
When my twins were in 2nd grade, they read Charlotte's Web in school. they just love the story! Curious how different the new remake Charlotte's Web movie is going to be,compared to the original movie?

Well, we could say, "Hey, Disney! Shakespeare called and he wants Hamlet back!" in regards to the Lion King, too.

We saw it today with the kids (7 & 11) and while they liked it, I thought it was booooooooring! I was counting the ceiling tiles while it wasplaying! Right from the beginning you could basically write the entire script yourself - no surprises. It had it's moments, but they were few and far between. I expected a lot more from Nickelodeon...

And I did notice the similarities between it and Lion King - so much so that I expected Ben to talk to Otis from the stars! :)

Jill...... at least the Kit Kats were good!

I wont watch it. For the simple fact of male cows and udders. I make a comment about it every time I see the trailor. I usually hear a "just let it go shelby" from my uncle too.

Its so wrong! male cows dont' have udders!

The male cow thing is funny to me. I wonder why they decided to animate it like that?

I STILL need to see Monster House and Over the Hedge before I even consider Barnyard. I'm so way behind on my animated movies.

My son said the exact same thing.... It's the "hillbilly Lion King" I thought it was cute, but waswondering about the male cows with udders.

If you guys are going to get all picky, I'll have to point out there is no such thing as a male "cow". Cows are, by definition, females. Bulls are males. These are the gender specific names for cattle, buffalo, bison, etc. Similar to hens.

You just hit the nail on the head. Yep, EVERY kids' movie has at least one gas scene in it. Pathetic, isn't it? It's like they need to throw in the lowest form of humor to appeal to everyone. In fact, whenever I'm watching a children's movie, I wait for it. I know it's coming.

Coming off my soapbox now...thought Barnyard stunk. I didn't mind the predictable plot line, but they had to make up for it with characterization or good writing. Didn't have either. Was bored to tears.

On the other hand, I loved Monster House. Really worked for me.

Bulls with udders! :lmao: I have not heard of this movie until this thread. Which studio is it made by?

And could someone clue me in on the similarities between Hamlet and The Lion King? I've never enjoyed reading Shakespear (sp?). I couldn't even watch the Mel Gibson Hamlet movie.

The Basic plot of Hamlet

While Hamlet is away, his father (the king) is killed by his brother. Said brother takes over the throne (and Hamlet's mom). Hamlet comes home, realizes that things are very wrong, but doesn't do anything about it. Hamlet broods (and lots of subplots take place that have no counterpart in The Lion King). Eventually, Hamlet gets up the gumption to confront his Uncle and claim his throne - part of this strength comes from conversation with his father's ghost. Hamlet's uncle gets killed, everybody lives happily ever after, Elton John signs a song. (Actually, in Shakespeare pretty much everybody, including Hamlet, ends up dead. And there is no Elton John song.)

Thanks for the Hamlet lesson, Salmoneous! :sunny:

good point, but i think they make a point of calling them 'cows' in the movie so they can do the whole 'cow tipping' thing. don't know of anyone who 'bull tips'.

I might have to check this movie out! It has cow tipping in it, too! :lmao:

OT, but I have to tell it anyway. One of my 17 month olds tips all the big toys over. Her occupational therapist was doing a home visit one day, and she said Lydia is going to be a cow tipper in her teenage years. :lmao:

I never connected the two. Simba is a furry hamlet.

My 4 yo DD enjoyed the movie. It did remind me a lot of The Lion King.
