He's torturing her cats....serious thread

The OP sent me a PM and she said the cats are ok and are being boarded at a No kill shelter. She didnt update because the thread got ugly...

NOTHING is uglier than the torture she described in the first post.

I normally just ignore or try to be nice to people with odd situations but this was just too much for me. I tried to be nice but when she refused to actually do anything, it bothered me. I still don't think that most of us were rude though.

I'm bothered by the people on the other thread who have commented that anyone who said anything about this were somehow being mean to the OP. It's fine if they don't care but it's in no way rude to try to get someone to do something about a situation like this.

I agree. Those people CLEARLY did not go and read her other posts and threads.

I have a friend from my college days who has both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Not only did he graduate from college with honors, he is a very good, loving, productive member of our community. I would absolutely entrust him with any living creature. But then his illnesses are very well controlled with medication. You wouldn't know he is sick at all. He is very responsible and takes his meds regularly. His insurance once lapsed and he didn't have his drugs for a few weeks and OMG what a difference. It was shocking to say the least. But a schizophrenic/bipolar who is well controlled with medication is very trustworthy. In fact, most people probably know lots of people with these illnesses and have no idea of it.

The issue with the OP's uncle is that he has these mental illnesses and opts use illegal drugs which makes his condition worse. I'd also guess he chooses not to take the medications that would control his illness.

I think the mother was out of her mind to give the uncle these cats. BUT, that is not the fault of the OP. She seems to be doing everything she can to help these poor animals.

As a healthcare provider, I have to disagree with the fact that you should entrust your children/pets to someone with known mental illness. Do you want to be responsible for making the decision to leave your kids with a schizophrenic family member only to find that they hadn't been taking their meds or were on the wrong dose? How about walking in on children who were abused or worse by said family member? That's not a responsible decision. Use your head, not your heart.

It was entitled Mean Mom - no wonder our kids feel free to cyber bully - it is alive and well on the DIS. The OP, whether she has issues or not, came for advice and gees nice advice everything from she is nuts to a troll to should be locked up.

The SPCA has a line that takes calls at night but they do not respond until the am, they tell you to call law enforcement. Most PDs animal control officers are 9-5 so they would have to have an officer respond. If she lives in a large city while sick & nasty animal cruelty is low priority compared to human tragedy. So her options at the original time were limited.

Personally I think this thread should be locked for its plain nastiness.

Not everyone on this thread was nasty. Yes, some were and that's unfortunate but it's not fair to paint everyone with one big brush. I'd say that most were actually just concerned and said so.

Bullying? If anyone is guilty of bullying it is certainly the OP. Most people were merely discussing her plans of letting her children "run wild"...this is a discussion board after all. The OP was the one who resorted to making threats that they "hoped" to run in to those who had made comments she disagreed with.

Everyone should be able to have a pleasant vacation...By recognizing that their right as well as the rights of those surrounding them matter.

She is one truly scary lady!!!
I really sympathise with all parents who have challenging issues with children but surely setting a decent example would win a large part of the battle. at least i find it helps with DS2.

Personally, I think she got exactly what she deserved on this thread.

Boxley, between being trapped in a home a being tortured or being set free into the wild, I, too, believe those cats would be better off in the wild. (IF that were the only 2 choices.)

And there weren't only two choices there were three in this situation.
