He's torturing her cats....serious thread

Is the OP for real? I can't imagine ANY decent human being standing by knowing these animals are being tortured and abused without doing ANYTHING unless prompted by a bunch of strangers on the freakin INTERNET!

WTH ?! I found out last nite ! What am i supposed to jump ?!?! Jump in my car and drive to his house to go and get the cats?! Im a single mom of 2 kids with a 2 bedroom small apartment..On top of that I dont drive ! Im doing everything I can for the cats right now. Ive been calling and emailing like crazy since 6:30 am . My mom is getting the cats today and she will board them if she cant find anything else. I even told my mom i'd split the cost with her and they arent even my cats ! Im not a cat person at all . I think I am doing plenty. Im not going to call the police on my uncle and get him in trouble. That's my uncle. He's a nut but i still love him. The cats will be out of his care shortly.

No one expected you to run over there and get them but it sounded like you were just going to tell him to release them and be done with it.

I'd have a hard time loving someone that treats living creatures that way. He's also more than a "nut". He's psychotic and needs some major help. I hope you don't leave your children in his care.

I only skimmed this thread because I don't want to be upset all day thinking about what these poor creatures are having to endure.

I hope you reconsider calling the police to get these animals out of there immediately.

I've tried to get cats in emergency need into no kill shelters and I can honestly say that despite valiant efforts over many weeks, I was unsuccessful. I had to take matters into my own hands (ie find them homes on my own). It wasn't that they didn't want to help, it was that they were unable to because they were all full.

I understand your loyalty to your uncle, but I think you need to look at it that it's the right thing to do. I don't know if your children are aware of what's going on, but know that they're basically taking notes and learning from how you handle this if they do.

I love my family as well, but I wouldn't hesitate to call the police on anyone who was hurting defenseless animals! And like WVJules, I simply couldn't love a person who was hurting animals, related or not. In fact, I have cut all ties to my uncle, who was like an older brother to me until I was 20yo, when he changed and started wreaking emotional havoc to our family. So I know what it is like to love someone and watch them become so hurtful, but I certainly will not stand around and perpetuate that.

I have 2 rescue kittens and can't even begin to imagine hurting them or knowing someone else was. And I know you meant well telling him to release them "tomorrow", but why did the cats have to wait? You could have had the cats out of there last night with a call to the local police station. Who knows what he has done to them since your phone call, or worse yet, since your mom's angry phone call.

That is very worrisome. I think the poor kitties are paying for this now. I hope someone goes to get them ASAP.

Wow! This is disturbing on so many levels. OP, thank you for looking for alternatives.

A few things that bothered me - the uncle asked your mom for $ for food- did I read it right that she said no? I can understand her concern that he would use it on drugs- but if she loved the cats so much wouldn't/shouldn't she have provided a huge supply of food, litter, etc?

I can't imagine letting a drug abuser have my pets in any way but I know that a lot of organizations are turning away adult cats because they are overwhelmed with them.

15 yrs ago I had a situation with my ex husband where he was threatening violence to both me and my cat (only married 6 mos). When I was leaving I had to make boarding arrangements as my new roommate was allergic and I just couldn't trust him not to hurt her. I lost my job right after and couldn't afford to continue boarding so I had to relinquish her to the family that was fostering her. Broke my heart but it was in her best interest to be with a good family.

My husband now can't stand our cat- we've had him for 7.5 years and he is just not a lovable cat. He is afraid of men and will bite or scratch(lightly as a warning) when he feels threatened or just not in the mood to play- so he is not a candidate for adoption -and I know a shelter would euthanize him. He wakes us up early to let him out (we were forced to let him be an indoor/outdoor cat when we got our new golden retriever or one of them would have had to go- they fight so much) he opens doors in our house so we can lock him out of a room but can't really lock him in- or he wakes you up anyway with the amount of noise he makes. He only bonded with me and everything is on his terms- he's just one of those cats. But my husband would never abuse him-he just verbally makes fun of Chase. I can't imagine how the OP's mom is feeling now that she knows what she put her pets through.

OP definately keep us informed- I'd call the SPCA or what ever agency polices animal abuse where he lives (just google animal protective services or aspca/spca in his zip code) to make sure that he has to relinquish them to avoid further abuse. Chances are that they would take the cats and not charge him with anything unless the cats showed physical damage-and in most cases it is just a misdemeanor( that's another issue altogether).

How about taking the cats to a rescue and letting them go. Your mother cannot care for these cats properly anymore. It is not fair to have them live in a cage for who knows how long. After what they have endured with your uncle, they need some TLC. When she gets back on her feet and can properly care for a cat again, she can start over. Once you have confirmed these cats are out of the care of your abusive uncle, you really should try to talk your mom into finding a no-kill shelter or cat rescue.

I too would love to know where in MA this uncle lives, because he sounds like a menace to society. As someone else pointed out, people who abuse animals usually go on to abuse people as well. He should be locked up before he moves on to human victims.

If this story is even real, I suggest the OP call the Neponset Valley Humane Society. They have many foster volunteers who would be more than willing to get those poor cats out of this situation.

This was painful to read, you must be in a very painful place... i know I would be if i were in your shoes. If he is telling you this much there must be much more he isn't saying. I understand you don't want to hurt your relationship with your mother which is why going anonymous is probably a good choice for you. Her behavior is human nature, no mother can believe their own children are capable of such things. Even the worst criminal has a mother somewhere swearing her baby is innocent. If I were in your shoes I would make an anonymous call from a payphone to both SPCA and the Police that you heard animals crying and spoke with a person that says he is hurting them, then let the police do their thing. No living thing should ever be someone's plaything like this. I know I could never live with myself if I let something like this go.

I think OP meant that he asked for money for food for himself not the cats, or at least that's the way I understood it.

OP I commend you on your efforts. I think that you have done the right thing in helping these animals as you could've chosen to not get involved as I'm sure most people who aren't big animal people would've done and I know your Mom appreciates it.

I understand that you love your uncle and I've had people/family members in my life who were addicts too but as harsh as it sounds he needs to have the police called on him. It could be a blessing in disquise if perhaps being in jail for a while set him on a new/better path in life and allowed him time to get sober. A wake up call.

I just can't read this anymore. I pray for those cats. What a mess. I would love to really speak my mind but Iam sure I would be banned. No one involved deserves those cats. Poor innocent animals.
