Hertz reserved rate "subject to change"

I recently reserved a car through Hertz using the AARP discount code. When I received my reservation confirmation there is a "Warning Message" that states:

THE RESERVED RATE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE

Does this mean that I can apperar at the rental counter with my quoted reservation in hand and they can tell me that the price is now higher than what I was quoted? I've never seen this on any other confirmaton with any other rental company. The price that I was quoted has always been the price I paid. Is Hertz different

I think that is the CYA in case you don't live up to the conditions. For example you reserve for a 7 days and return at 4, new rate.

I have never had the base rate change. Taxes have changed, but that was due to changes made by the local taxing authorities. I would not worry about it.

I agree with CarolA. I never had the base rate change in all my rentals with Hertz. I don't remember that always being there.

I am pretty sure it is always there. I went back and looked at my online reservations for the past 5 business trips and it is WAY down at the bottom. The rates have never changed.

CarolA. you are probably right. I have looked at so many of them they have become a blur.

A couple of times we had the total price change with Budget vs. our online quote, but it was less than a dollar both times. I have no idea why, as I don't quibble over small amounts. I'd be upset if it was more than a buck or two.

Email them and ask what it means more specifically. If you don't like the answer, then cancel and book with someone else.

I have seen this when we book AAA rates. I was told once that that allowed them to charge full rate if you could not prove you were an AAA member (I was saving a considerable amount).

I agree - call Hertz and ask.
