I just thought I'd write about our little adventure getting out of the Hertz terminal, and also getting back to it.
We got in on Thanksgiving Day and around 10:45 pm. We were bussed over to the off-site terminal about a mile away. I tried to watch the road signs and landmarks to make sure we could get back on the return. We checked in and upgraded for a Matrix. Got the car and was about to leave the lot when the security guard said "your not going anywhere!!" Turns out the right front end is smashed and the hood wouldn't close properly. Well it's going on midnight and were tired and we head back to check-in. He upgrades us to a Kia Amonte. Very nice gesture I thought. On the way out I thanked the guard for pointing it out. I wonder what would have happened if he hadn't seen the damage??
The return trip to the outside terminal went ok until I got to the airport. I ended up getting lost and was running behind getting to the airport check-in. I thought I had allowed enough time to check-in. We were 30 minutes before our flight left. They said there was no way our baggage would make the plane. They rebooked us no charge thank god, for a later flight and it all ended well.
Moral, check rental car before leaving rental area. And always check directions and give yourself those extra 15 minutes getting to the airport.
