Has anyone ever used Hertz at the Orlando Amtrak station? Thinking about taking the train instead of flying because of the airfare prices and wanted to pick up a rental car at the station.

How was your experience? How is the Orlando station? We arrived at the Kissimmee station last year and we were not impressed.

Thank you.

we took the Amtrak and got off in Orlando, it was about 6 years ago. anyway we were supposed to have an SUV waiting for us at the station, but it wasn't there. (we were with another couple, and i think he made the res. for an SUV) so we had to have a shuttle pick us up and bring us to the airport to get our rental.there were cars waiting at the station, but not the one we reserved. we are taking the autotrain this year, and coincadentaly so is the other couple we traveled with! its just easier having your own car. and the Orlando station was just a regular looking small staion. nothing like Newak Penn. and from what i remember it was clean and just 1 small bathroom with 2 or 3 stalls!!
well good luck!

It's been a couple of years since we "trained" it, but what I remember is that the train was very late (as it often is), and that no one was available at the counter to pick up the rental car. We, too, had to be "shuttled" to pick up the rental.

If you're not going off property, it might be easier to hire a van/town car to pick you up and bring you to your hotel.-CL

We have done this trip 4x..Kissimmee area is a lot nicer than Orlando..Orlando is much more hectic and busy..but an old worn down station in a not so nice section of town. We switched to Kissimmee..

Thank you

My sis still wants to fly but I could take the train for half the price including the rental car. I was thinking about taking the earlier train just in case so that I could avoid the shuttle, I have a compact reserved I don't think that should be a problem :rolleyes1

Hmmm....i booked the Orlando train station because it looks closer to our hotel than the Kissimee...I wonder if I should change it. We will need a Hertz rental car too! Our train is supposed to come in at 10:17am, how late should I expect it? I am actually a bit psyched to take the train, even though it will be 25 hours. The price is amazing compared to airfare right now.

Average delay for the Silver Star, train 91 due Orlando at 10:17 a.m., is six minutes. For the last month, the latest the train has been is 49 minutes, with eighteen of the last thirty days the train having arrived early.

For those who claim the train is usually late, it simply isn't true.

Thanks for the information, that makes me feel better! I hope the train still comes in on time in April!

I have traveled from vermon to WDW by amtrak several times. My latest trip being in July.We rented at the Hertz and LOVED IT!You get off in Orlando and the hertz desk is in the station. From departing the train to being in the car was 15 minutes tops!! We had a car with 200 miles one it!!A man brought it around to the front door loading area and we got in.I had done google maps for the route from there to Carr Beach resort and it worked out fine-with only 1 wrong turn that took us about 5 minutes to fix.
Drop off was a breeze since no one was at the desk at the time. They had a box to leave the keys in and a parking lot to park in.I rec'd a receipt from them in about 10 days. Great experience! You can read my trip report for more train info(even though I have yet to fininsh with the full 2 weeks of activities!!)

I don't like the idea of having to drop off the car unattended and rely on the rental company's appraisal of the car's condition, amount of gas in it, etc.

Enough to get me to consider other transportation options, for example renting the car at Disney.

Also, if the train is hours late, is your car rental reservation still honored?

Yes, they monitor the trains and the rental will be waiting.
As for the drop, we inspected and took pics but I didn't mind the drop off.We had 2 of us to say the car was perfect when we dropped it off.I doubt they could make any claim hold up in court since they weren't there to inspect it.I would say that if someone hits it in their parking lot before they return, that would be their problem.I would say prove it wasn't fine when I dropped it off! the man that checked us in told us to drop the keys in the box if he wasn't there so I assume they have that happen since he seems pretty casual.I had a brand new car with under 200 miles on it and he didn't seemed concerned at all about inspecting it.
All I can say is that I had a great price and great experience with them.Quick check-in,spotless car and they mailed me a receipt without a problem. I would definitely chose them again over taking a taxi to disney and getting a car later.Saved us vaca time:woohoo:
