As an experienced MCO traveller I don't believe what I have done. I was trawling the car rental sites the other day and got a seriously/crazy good price for a Ford Expedition for our trip at the end of August. I therefore booked it there and then.

However it has now occured to me that Hertz are not on site at MCO....

Has anyone used them there? Is it a big polava to get your car as it is elsewhere...? Do they still have a desk at MCO and the cars are just off site? or is the whole operation off site?

I use them all the time Steve.
It's very simple.
Outside the car rental level, you get a bus to the hertz compound. the bus driver will help you with your cases.
Just get on the bus, it goes to the compound, first stop is for Hertz No1 Gold Card holders, where you just go and pick up your car, show your card at the exit gate and away you go.
The second stop is for noin Gold card. You go into the office, and do the normal bits and pieces, no queues, well I have never seen any. Pick up your rental wallet and keys, go to the car, follow the exit signs, show the papers to the gate keeper and away you go.
Out onto main highway (436 Semorian Bvd) turn right and down to the Bee line 528.
On the way back, go to the Hertz compund (very well signed, less than 3 mins from airport, drop car off and get bus to terminal.
very simple and easy to do.
Any questions, just ask :goodvibes

Obi Wan - "your force is strong young man".

Great thanks for that - doesn't sound too bad at all. Sarah has been 'questioning' lets say the decision to book an off site company. Which is only fair as she just wants it to be smooth once off the plane.

Do you know how often do the buses run? and do they wait to be full before departing?

How long do you normally allow on your way back home for the drop off..?

All help is greatly appreciated. Can't believe we are there 3 or 4 times per year and yet still asking questions...!!!

I have found them a lot quicker than the big queues for the normal UK flights coming in runs, most UK airlines do not use them so the amount of pax when you fly in is very low looking for Hertz, more buisness pax and US renters.

The busses run about every five mins, they are in radio contact, so tell each other when they are entering the airport/Compund etc, and they leave as the next bus arrives in the airport boundary.

We have never really allowed time for drop off, as we check in at DTD then get to the airport/Hertz at our leisure, but about 30 mins max will do you. When you come back to the compound the car is ushered into the row of cars toi be valeted, an operative comes alongside and you will see a bar code on the rear side window. She/He will run a scanner over it, run off a ticket whichy they give you and the say "have a nice day" and thats it on pre paid rates.
Unload car, over to the building and wait the five mins for the bus (airconditioned bus by the way)

The four main reasons I use Hertz is (in order of preference)
1) No huge queues like Dollar/Alamo/etc
2) The Hertz No1 Gold card advantage, both in rental rates (cheaper than normal rates, upgrades at airport, 10% extra discount for using a Master card) and the electronic board on the bus with your name and the bay in which your car is parked, get off ond away you go
3) good quality cars in clean condition (I will not bore you with the Alamo rent a wreck story..)
4) Frequent flyer miles for my FC account

The rates are great, Just booked a secomd car for December for some friends coming out, they don't get the Gold card rate, but still get a preferential GC friends rate, two weeks all in for £225.15 (£16.07 a day!) for a full size four door.
(We are paying £229.33 for a 4X4)

I agree with everything Obi says.

We regularly rent with Hertz (we are No 1 Gold Members and like renting with satnav - Hertz were one of the first renters to offer it) and have no problem with them.

You could leave the wife and baggage and children (if you have them) in the arrivals terminal and go back and collect them (they would need to keep an eye out for you). But we tend to find that we are generally quicker on our way if we all take the bus.

We used them on our most recent trip because we wanted a Ford Mustang and they were offering them at a reasonable price. We were initially a bit concerned about having to get a bus to the depot - but it couldn't have been more efficient. Straight out of the airport onto the bus - no waiting about. No queues inside the rental office. They brought the car round to the front of the office for us and we were away. Drop-off was great too. As Obi says they use barcode scanners and it barely take any time at all to leave the car and get onto the bus.

We'd definitely use them again. We have queued for hours at the airport car-hire desks before now.

We also liked the Sirius satellite radio that Hertz do in their cars. Were able to keep up with news from home and even listen to football matches as we drove about.

We've been looking for the same, Steve. Who did you get the great price with? Hertz itself?

Thanks everyone. Sounds like the #1 Club is well worth - always wanted to see my name in lights!!!

In answer to Deb - Yes it was through Hertz direct. Don't know if it is the exchange rate but they came in really reasonable. More so for the big stuff. We got the Expedition for 10 days for under £300 all in before our discount (We get a CDP number through work for a bit more off).

Happy motoring....

I would say join No 1 club as well (if you can get No1 Gold as well, even better)
