Hershey PA and Gettysburg

That was the restaurant the Dobbin House! I agree with needing more than one day in Gettysburg.

I agree to be able to do Gettysburg justice, you need more than one day. My brother was a serious Civil War re-enactor and was an extra in the Gettysburg movie!

I lived in Lancaster for 6+ years. There are definitely some great things to see . . . Central Market, one of the first farmer's markets, GREAT restaurants, but STAY AWAY from the outlets on the weekends.

Wow, great info everyone! Very much appreciated . . .

Geeze I told DH it was around 3 hours . . .ooops . . .maybe I won't mention the 5 hour drive yet . . .

Otto's Doll - I am almost certain we will be at Hershey Lodge June 28 - 30th and also doing the Family Package for the one night and then the extra room night for the 2nd night.

What would everyone compare Hershey Park to? Six Flags or is it smaller?

Hi Martha! My son does Civil war Reenactment as well.

I agree, Gettysburgh needs more than one day.

Boyds Bears will be doing Living History/reenactment weekends this July, 10-11 is only Living history, 17-18 they have reenactment as well, but because that's the weekend of the Monacacy and Hamilton events, there probably won't be many there, and the 24-25 will be the big reenactment weekend.

Be careful hiking on the trails, lots of loose gravel and such. I got a bad sprain on Round Top last year, had to be carried down. :( The doctor at the ER told me that they get a casualty everyday from there in the summer.

We are doing the family package for both nights, is there a difference in price for the extra night w/o it? We figured the free breakfast would be worth the extra $. Is that right, or is there enough of a difference to not have the family fun package for the second night?
Maybe we will see you there!

I live in York, which is about 45 minutes east of Gettysburg and 45 minutes southwest of Hershey. We go to Hershey at least once a year. Make sure you check out Hershey's website. They have a new 3-D movie this year which sounds great!

You might also want to check out City Island (home of the Harrisburg Senators) and the Whitaker Center/Imax in nearby Harrisburg.

This is such a great thread.

We're actually planning on doing Hershey Park next May or June perhaps (all b/c I caught the "Secrets of Hershey" special on the Travel channel the other night... and I'm hooked!!!)

I"m all over the Hershey PA planning site, requesting brochures, looking at the resort... we can even use our DVC points at the Vacation Club & Resort there ... I have a lot of planning to do!

Don't, don't don't stay at the Econolodge. We were there last year and it was filthy, the pool was filled with algae and the beds were lumpy. We didn't even want to stay, but because we arrived after 6pm they were going to charge our credit card for the room either way. We should have just paid for two rooms.::yes::

Try the Holiday Inn instead. It looked pretty nice!
