I believe it is Burgur king that has the discount coupons. We usally start seeing them in our area of NY around April. The park is usually open on the weekends by Mother's day.
I have to just add that the Lodge IMO is nothing like a motel! Especially the Tower part. There are alot of motels in the area that is the typical shady type motel for cheap rates. Of course you could find cheap motels in the area. It just depends on what type of accomodations you like. If not staying at the Lodge, I would highly recommend the Hilton Garden Inn in Hershey. We have stayed her many times and it is very clean, safe and close to the park. The price usually includes continental breakfast. In the room is a micro and frigde free of charge.
If you plan on going in the summer the rates are usually around the same at both the Lodge and Hilton Garden Inn.
For the person from LI, NY it will probably take approx. 4 hrs. to drive there. You could easily do 2 days of the park, a day relaxing at the pool along with half a day at Chocolate town. Don't forget 45 mins away is Lancaster county with tons of things to do. I don't do the thrill rides either and have a 22 month old and 7yo. My 22mo has been twice already! There are so many kiddie rides. Really a great family park. Not like WDW with more attractions, this is really about the rides. Chocolate World does have the 3D show which was really cute.
