That's too funny about the names, who would have thought.

About St. Martin -

We got off the ship and took the water taxi over to the Main dock for shopping and the beach. It costs $5 per person all day and kids ride free all day. My wife wanted to get her hair braided instead of waiting until the last day so she did that and my son and I played in the water for a little while. We then went on the left side of the dock to all the beach chairs and swimming areas(you will know what I am talking about when you get there). We met a local who had chairs for rent, if you bargain with them they will give you two chairs and an umbrella ($10), jet ski rental for 1/2 hour ($40) and use of the water trampoline for the children ($5) all for $45.00. At least that's what I bargained for. and drinks for a dollar, they come to you. They also have facilities to change in (for lack of a better word) I would wear the suit over. We stayed there for a while. They allow jet skis to pretty much go out as far as you want, but you can't go too close to the ships. There are bouys guiding you away. There is a shipwreck out on the rocks that my son loved to go look at and it's a lot of fun when other boats go by and you can use the waves. The jet skis seemed to be in decent enough shape that I wasn't worried about being stranded in the bay and you wouldn't really go out of sight anyway. It was a great time. If you need to rent more than one bargain with them a two-fer or three-fer deal and they will do it.

But anyway, after a full morning of sun and water we returned to the ship to shower, change and have lunch. We went to Lumiere's and it was pretty good. We then used the water taxi back and did our shopping.

Be aware that you are harrassed, or at least constantly bombarded by women selling their stuff while you try and sit on the beach, they come by with jewelry, hats, shirts, scarves, everything. You can get some good deals from them on stuff like tropical shirts and hats. Hats were $5, shirts I got for under $10 and I let my wife bargain for a tropical outfit and she got it from $25 to $16. so its fun if you let it. If you are put out by it, its not that fun. We then walked around and looked in different shops and there are little alley ways with local craftsman set up selling things so its a great experience.

If you have any other questions let me know here and I will answer them.

thanx Wog (if i may be familiar). that day sounds perfect for us. did you get to the french side? i hear the shopping in marigot is very good.

We did not get over to the french side. I hear it is great as well. We just wanted to relax and see where the day went, we didn't want to rush around and felt this worked for us. It was really convenient having the ship there and the water taxi was perfect. There are some really good buys. We felt it was better shopping wise than St. Thomas. Better deals.

of course you can be familiar, Wog is fine :)

dear wog, i booked the kayaking excursion on st martin. the children and i are going, even ds, who is almost as laid back as his father.

a friend of mine who spent 4 weeks on st martin this winter is preparing a to-do list for me. i'd be happy to share it if you are interested.

on st thomas/john we will be on our own. trunk bay, perhaps. it is a shorter day and i'm not interested in lots of activities.

thanx for your help.
