Hi, we have a trip planned this month and I'm getting extremely nervous. I was recently diagnosed with herniated discs and degenerative disc disease. My back hurts constantly. Sitting makes it worse, and standing in one spot also aggravates it. Is this something I could get a card for, and if so, does the card actually shorten the wait time for rides?

Disney's answer will be to get a wheelchair. There is no card that shortens a line. Use you fast pass + options

The only good thing about your situation is that with such back issues you probably won't be riding a lot of the big headliners, so you can use your FP choices elsewhere and get a lot of the popular rides like Peter Pan, and Soarin'.

Rides you will definitely want to avoid with back injuries include Dinosaur, Primeval Whirl, all the coasters, Test Track, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Star Tours, and maybe even Toy Story Midway Mania. (this is just a list off the top of my head, there are probably more)

I have a friend with the same issue. he sits, stands, sits, stands, etc.

what works wonders is the rollators. what a great invention. it's like a walker, but has a seat. you can stand when you want , sit when you want. use it to lean on if you wnat. if not, your partner can roll it along.

that is what I was thinking also. along with being pregnant and heart problems, back problems is on most of the "warning, don't ride if" signs.

op,back problems are the worse. you cant sit , stand , lean , walk, lay down without out it biting. and when its not biting, your tense as all get out waiting for it to start biting again. I hope it works out for you and you have an enjoyable vacation. :thumbsup2

Welcome, fellow degenerative disc disease sufferer! The only tip I have about rides is that you can still do KS probably, but be sure to ask for a seat in the first couple rows. Otherwise, for general walking, I've used a cane, but fought other aids so far. So I haven't used a card, scooter, or rollator-yet!

I would suggest checking in with Guest Services when you get to the park to get a DAS. You still have to wait, just not standing in line. If you have concerns give Guest Services a call directly and from my experience they were very helpful and accommodating.

You do still have to wait in line and the time you wait is determined by how long the FP+ line is

I should have mentioned, we are going to DLR.

It's the same at DLR. In DL there are less rides that have accessible queues, but with a mobility aid they will direct you to accessible entrance if it can't go through the standard queue. If you can't do stairs, tell them at the entrance and they will direct you around. Sometimes there are return times issued at the accessible entrances, this is common on POTC. In DCA most of the queues are accessible.

My understanding is that they will give you a return time 10 minutes less than the posted wait, so if the ride has a 45 minute wait you are scheduled to come back 35 minutes later. Additionally DAS is a one at a time thing, so you can't get another time until after you've used the one on your card. My trip is not until August, but there is a fair amount information available online about the process.

From a personal experience I know that the DAS procedure is still being tweaked according to GR, but they have been very helpful. If you have any questions regarding your specific needs I would suggest contacting the park GR directly.

However, if the wait time is 45 minutes and you come back in 35 minutes as indicated on your DAS card you still have to go into the FP+ line and wait however long that line is. You do not go to the front of a line after you come back from your 35 minute wait.

I think PP was trying to say that after you wait the posted wait time minus 10 minutes you will still have to wait through the FP+ (at WDW) queue, however long that happens to be at the time. OP mentioned inability to stand without constant pain and shortening wait times, PP was explaining that waiting in the line is not completely bypassed.

At DL they also use the FP entrance, but not as many rides have one. However, there are often lines formed at the accessible entrances for wheelchairs and DAS returns, so the waiting in line part still applies. Even if you're in a wheelchair and they give you a return time slip, you still return to wait in a line with other wheelchair return time recipients and DAS returners.

not always. it depends on the disability, and basically, the guests NEEDS.
for example, guests who can't do stairs can't go thru many FP lines. some are sent to the exit, or an alternative entrance.

that is true. NO ONE gets to jump right in front of everyone (well, except make a wish guests) even at the enter thru the exit (such as toy story), you have to wait your turn behind the others there 1st for the same (or similar) reason you are.
at Small world, there is still a line in the handicap entrance.

no it does not. you get a return time based on the standby line wait minus ten minutes to account for the time spent in the fast pass line upon your return. the FP line can still be a half hour long.

the lines are constantly moving, if at a snail's pace.

Yes, that is correct according to my information. Thanks for the clarification as I did not mean to imply differently.

this is why I suggested purshasing a rollator. while you won't be able to walk around in line, it does help you alternate between sitting and standing.
