Here's what happens when you leave something in the safe!

I was unpacking Friday night, when to my horror, I pulled out the safe key! And realized I'd left my wallet in the safe at BCV. (Luckily, I did have my driver's license, bank card, cash and Disney Annual pass -- all the essentials -- in my pocket.)


I called immediately, and they asked if I could come back. I'm about 3.5 hours away, so 7 hours more in the car back and forth that day didn't really thrill me, but hey, it was my fault. (Actually, I'll blame DS. I used to have a memory before he was born!) But they called back a few hours later, saying they could rekey the safe and rescue my wallet.

I got it safe and sound today! Not anything I'd recommend (or anything I'd do again, let's hope!), but good info to know, I figure.

Oh, lucky you! I would have panicked completely. Glad it worked out for you.

DW once left her pins in the safe after we checked out of the POR Resort. With new purchases and traders, there was probably around $500 worth. She was almost sick with guilt. She called the hotel manager the next day and she said she would check in to it. She was advised there would be a "re-key" charge, I don't remember how much (might have been $25.00).

A day or two later, she received a call and said they had the contents of the safe and they would send the pins back.

About a week later, all the pins arrived in a small sturdy box. We were never charged a "re-key" fee, and they did not ask to be reimbursed for the postage. A happy ending!

Although we are DVC members, we still enjoy staying at POR every once in a while.

Glad it worked out for you. You did not read about the couple that had their money stolen from locked safe at WDW, I believe it was WL, did you? Someone called down to say they lost the key, management sent someone up to re-key and they gave them the new key, the problem was the indifidual they gave the key to was a crook. Not too smart of management!!

I was just thinking about that article, too. I'm surprised that Disney was so accomodating after that incident. I question that story a bit -- it could be a true robbery or it could be a scam against Disney. Either way, I'm surprised that Disney went ahead and helped out Jodifla since that would expose them again to charges of what was missing from the safe and/or wallet itself.

rereading my post, I realized I didn't say that they did end up mailing me the wallet so I didn't have to make the drive.

I did hear about the incident at the Wilderness Lodge, and even told the duty manager don't worrry, there's no 20 grand in my wallet, just a bunch of insurance cards, my checkbook, some department store credit cards, etc.

She did have me describe exactly what I had left in the safe, and they did not go in and get it until they had talked it over with the current occupant. (The upside for him is he has access to use the safe now, which he didn't have, since I had the key...)

Addiditionally, they could easily see that I had been in the room, since I had just left and was still in the computer. My confirmation letter was in my wallet, in fact.

Still, it worked out way better than I dreamed under the circumstances.

A couple of years ago at OKW after we checked in and DH went to put our valuables in the safe we discovered that the previous people had left all their valuables in the safe. We always assumed that the safe was checked by Housekeeping after you checked out, but in this instance that was not the case. There was jewelry, a wallet and other items. We immediately called the front desk and had them send someone over and together with a CM, Manager and my husband, they made a list of what was there to protect all of us. We never heard anymore about it. I assume whoever left their valuables must have felt a big relief to get them back.

I guess I'm just cynical but that story about the couple at WL has scam written all over it . How many people travel with that much money, travelers checks that can't be redeemed $3000 carry on...no forced entry to the room. In todays world with credit cards and ATM cards, it seems strange someone would have over $13000 in cash. I'll bet we will hear the REST OF THE STORY in a couple of months.

what amazed me was when my husband lost his $300.00 Maui Jim sunglasses on Space Mountain!!! First I was shocked he spent that much on sun glasses(but I won't complain because he got me a pair too!!)But why would he think they would have stayed on his head!! We won't get into that either!!

We called lost and found that night, we were leaving the next day, we described them to the person that answered the telephone, they said to call in the am, and see if they found them, well they did, and because we had a flight to catch, they said no problem, and mailed them back to us, no charge!!

I accidentally checked out and left valuables in the safe at the Beach Club (before there WERE any villas ). I called an hour later and told them. They said they'd charge a $35 re-key charge and mail everything back to me and that's exactly what happened.

A happy ending, for sure!
