This will be my first time to WDW where I cannot go on every ride due to a disability. My DD8 wants to go on some thrill rides and I too want her to enjoy these rides. My questions are as follows.

1. I am assuming I can wait in line with her and then just tell a CM that I am not riding and they will guide me elsewhere, right?

2. I don't want her to ride alone, how sucky would that be!? Do single rider lines actually place you with another rider? Can you choose to wait a turn or two if she finds the other rider intimidating?

The only ride I am not worried about is Space Mountain as it is single rider only, anyway.

Thank you in advance!

1. Yes you can enter the line and then use the chicken exit at boarding. You will be either walked the short distance to unload or sent through a door that takes you to the exit/unload.

2. Not that I know of. Part of single rider "agreement" is that you get sat next to who they need you to sit next to and not where you want.

She might actually enjoy the independence of going by herself. I know my son loved it at that age.

1 yes people do this all the time you will be fine to wait in line with her then not ride.

2 most of the time you will be alone ( for roller coaster) I think I have been on 7DMT 2 or 3 times alone. BTMRR I am always alone splash I have only done 1 as I hate to get wet and I was a lone then, Brian stormer alone ( but the sets are small and you would want to be alone) space single line ride so alone.

HS TOT you are not a lone RnR they have single rider line so you are not alone unless something weird happen but it is so fast you really do not care)

AK EE single rider line unless first thing in the morning then you might be alone dianasours not alone ( I think it is 4 or 5 to a row)

EPCOT TT single rider line so not a lone

mission space not a lone ( I think 4 or 5 go in one thing, and there have been one empty set some times)

as fair as riding alone some ride dose not really matter I go alone all the time and I am fine with it. I would just tell her you might be a lone and if she is make sure you do some thing next that bother of you can do. as some rides are just too hard to fine two single people to ride together, another thing you can do is make friend with the people around you and see if your DD can ride with them if there is an odd number. also do single rider line for the 3 that have it as they will add her to someone else ( TT at EPCOT RnR at HS and EE at AK have single rider line

I was riding TOT a few years ago and a very young lady ( i would guess under 10, I never asked), was riding solo as well, she tried to make it look casual that she was sticking close to me in the queue so I struck up a conversation with her and we rode as a two-some. She was a lovely young lady, and I applauded her for doing it solo.

You may want to check but I think there are rides where a child that young must be accompanied by someone at least 14 years of age or older.

Minimum age to ride alone is 7, so the 8-yr-old is good. Younger than 7 must ride with someone at least 14.

OP -- it's likely your daughter will be seated next to someone else. While possible to get a solo seat, I wouldn't count on it. It may depend how crowded the parks are each day and how busy that particular ride may be at the time. I suggest preparing her that she'll be seated next to a stranger. Then, maybe watch the queue entrance and try to join the line with another family, strike up a conversation in line, and maybe she can join them to ride? Particularly if it's a family with an odd number -- we are a party of 3 so one of us often rides with someone else and I'd be more than happy to let another child join us as a 4th. As long as your daughter will be comfortable sitting next to someone she doesn't know, it shouldn't be a problem.

Enjoy your vacation!

7DMT - I've never seen an empty seat and even when I asked for one, they told me I'd have to wait a cycle to get one. They line the groups up for maximum fill. Odd number groups are funneled one way, even another, as they combine two odd groups to make an even one.

I go solo all the time, and I find that for the popular coasters I am always seated with someone. For Toy Story Midway Mania (even when it was just two tracks) I was always seated by myself. Sometimes on the Boat in Mexico, Small World and Pirates at MK, and the old Maelstrom ride, I got a whole row to myself.

A friend or another relative to ride with would be much better, IMHO! This is 2017, not the 1950's!

An 8 year old girl, alone, is a target for unwelcome issues. Please think again! Thanks!!!

Also - I believe that she has to be with someone over 14.

Both in the 1950's or 2017 "unwelcome issues" are more likely to involve a friend or a relative than a stranger.

The child in question is 8. She can ride alone.

Interesting thoughts... most rides are only a few minutes long. There are security cameras EVERYWHERE. Most rides you really can't get your arms or hands into a position to touch the other riders ; if you can, the ride is moving too quickly to do more than brush them with a light touch or a soft grab. if there was an unwelcome issue, all she would have to do is tell the CM's. But warn her that having thighs touch on a moving ride isn't something anyone can do something about, so please do not make some strangers' life a nightmare over physical contact that neither of them have control over. ;)

I have much more issues with the parents who have their children loaded up into strollers, legs everywhere and no undies! AUGH it makes my skin crawl.... hygiene please people! Someone else has to rent that stroller after you! :( My family and I spotted at least a half dozen strollers in EPCOT where there was absolutely no concern to children's modesty or health! *siiiiiiiigh* And we're not talking babies in diapers, one family had their 10 year old daughter "airing it all to the world" while she played on her iPad! Let me say for the record, that was possibly the "Quickest Quick-Serve Meal" we ate the entire trip! :(

*waits for hate*

edit: not to mention, the CM's are really really good at manipulating the seating on rides for single-riders, if they can. And if they can't, they shift around parties until everything was appropriate. I saw the CM's re-direct other parties LOTS of times when we were at WDW.

At the Blizzard Bleach, we as a small party of three, often had to ride with total strangers on the giant family tube ride.... oh what's it called... something Springs... the CM's always paired us with younger girls or other families rather than stick a whole bunch of older guys in with us.

I realize a large portion of party switching must also occur because of weight issues on the ride. If the ride HAS to have a certain minimum weight at the back because it was designed that way, you're always going to be paired with some random single rider or odd member of a party.

But I never had any unwelcome issues with other people at WDW ; everyone seemed a little magically graciously about lines and dealing with each others' nonsense. You are stuck next to these people for the next hour... make it PLEASANT!

The only coaster that I have ever ridden solo that doesn't have a single rider line and they actually let me always have a car to myself w/o asking is Big Thunder Mountain RR. I always have to ride the thrill rides myself since DBF isn't a thrill ride kind of guy other than TT. When I rode SDMT on the last trip (January this year) they put me with another rider. It's the first time I've rode that coaster and I am not a very big person and I felt really crowded (the other lady was smaller too). So that's just the downfall to that ride vehicle. If she's 8, she should be fine.

Just an FYI, ToT does not have a single rider line. Sometimes they will ask if there is a single rider so they can fill an elevator but there is no single rider line like at TT, RnRC, and such.
If you enter the single rider line then I would expect to be placed with another random guest.
We have seen empty seats even on mine train. It is a rare CM Grouper who will risk putting a child next to a grown man. Groupers have the authority to do such things and adjust seating as necessary.
I now request to be seated alone (if I am alone in the park) on PotC as when I was once grouped with some strangers, the man sitting next to me kept put his hand on my leg and squeezing it! Totally creeped me out!!

A child under the age of 8 must be accompanied by someone 14 or older. An 8 y.o. may ride alone according to Disney's rules. It's very clear on Disney's website.

That isn't correct, either. It is under age 7.

this reminds me, I was on TOT and the woman next to me started to freak out and grabbed my chest I hit her arm so fast, when she did this. talk about being creeped out.kind of glade it was not a man but after the second time I had her arm away from my chest for the rest of the ride and gave a a Death Star at the end of it.

I think the OP child should be ok it sounds like the OP will be in line then waiting for her at the end of the ride. it will be hit or miss if she will be seated alone or not.

Even worse things happened in the 1950's, so don't fall for the romanticized version of "Happy Days". Do you really think someone is going to pay $$$ to get into WDW so they can touch an unattended kid? Why not just hang out at the park or Disney Springs, instead of going through security, and being surrounded by cameras, CMs and the all-present undercover security.

Also, WDW states that anyone over the age of 7 can ride alone.

Stealing a child can happen anywhere at any time.

I stand firm in what I wrote.

I think you stand firmly on delusions of security. Most child abuse comes from family and friends. But if you feel better thinking some guy in line is only there on the off chance that a child will be paired with him in line (and they very rarely put two single riders in together) then feel free to live like that. Or maybe a whole group of pedophiles go together... I've seen CMs eye the potential pairings, BTW, and adjust groups so that children sit together when an odd pairing comes up.
