Here now - Sheraton Vistana Resort :)

We just stayed at the resorts and they are beautiful!

You can take most pool toys into the pools and I'm assuming life jackets would be ok from what I saw. We were also in the Cascades and used that pool. The super pool was just farther away. We checked out the the other pools, but my kids liked that pool so much that we just used that one. The food at the bar by the pool there was really good too. And yes, the pool by Cascades is zero entry. It was kind of U shaped and the deepest was a little ove 5 feet. It did get pretty shaded in the pool area around 6pm- as in very little to no direct sun. It was still nice and warm, but you just did not get the sun.

You'll love it. We did.

Thnking of staying here in the future- so great to hear all the good reviews. I have a few questions I hope someone can answer....

I am confused on the 'sections' of the resort. What are they and how are they different? Are there some that are more recently remodeled? If you request a certain area are you likely to get that section??

Thanks :thumbsup2

This is a huge resort that was built in phases, hence all the different sections. I heard that the Courts was one of the first sections built and that these are the largest units. The second last built I believe is the Lakes. The Cascades I believe is the newest -- one of the few with elevators and a zero entry pool if that is important to you. Other section names I can think of are Fountains I and II and Spas. I'm sure there are others I'm leaving out.

Every single section, though, has recently (might be a few not done yet -- you can call and find out) gone though a major remodel -- like gutting the whole place putting in granite counter tops, etc (complete and total remodel). This brings this resort (every single section) right up there with the best timeshare resorts in the area. What too is so wonderful about this place is that much thought and care went into the landscaping in every section. Unlike most of the timeshare resorts in the area, here, there are little lakes and lovely landscaping all over meaning your patio or balcony view will be lovely for sitting out -- not a parking lot view. We use our patio and/or balcony alot, so this is important to us and something we really appreciate about the Vistana. All the pools we've checked out I thought were really nice. What's not to love about this place? Oh and we're a tennis playing family -- so their great clay tennis courts really appeal to us too.

I don't really know about how likely you are to get a certain section. I've stayed here four times and three out of the four times I got the section I requested. Two of the times I think they really wanted to go out of their way to accomodate me and with good reason -- the one time I had a broken leg and wanted a section with elevators (who is going to make a person with crutches climb stairs). The other time, I had extended family at the Fountains and wanted to be as close as possible to them (who isn't going to put families together at Christmas if they can). (The one time I didn't get my request -- I asked for a renovated unit, but didn't get it -- still liked what I got -- but other condo resorts in the area would have been nicer), I think that this was partly because everyone was requesting rennovated units, and at that time only the Lakes was rennovated.

I personally would be happy in any renovated section (which I think at this point is probably all of them). If you do not like the unit you are assigned, take the time to go back to the front desk and ask for other choices. Staff seems very accomodating and helpful.

Which property is this, the villages or the other one?

Also has anyone stayed here and Marriott Harbour Lakes (Horizons) that could compare them?

The property being described here in this post is the Shearaton Vistana Resort. The one on vs. 8800 Vistana Centre Drive, not the one on International Drive which is the Sheraton Vistana Villages. I understand that the other one is a nice property too, but I a have only stayed at this one.

I haven't stayed the the Marriott Harbour Lakes property. I do, though, belong to TUG2.net, a timeshare users group where various resorts are given ratings by members according to guidelines and members contribute very detailed reports/reviews describing properties. There is a fee of $15 per year (discounts for multi year memberships) to view content, other than classified ads (good site for finding timeshares to rent). I don't own a timeshare, but have subscribed to this site for years, as I am a frequent timeshare renter, and this site has been very reliable in helping me select high quality timeshares to rent (my number one source for making rental decisions). The reviews are so detailed // really awesome (some very picky people here and you really get a good sense of the properties). There the resort described here gets a high 8.54 rating with 396 ratings. Marriott Harbour Lakes gets a very similar rating of 8.49 with 47 ratings.

I'm interested in the tranportation to the parks as well. thanks!

Vistana does run shuttles to the park. It is usually complimentary if you book the unit as a hotel type stay (through a TA or direct with Starwood). There is a fee for timeshare owners, or those who trade into the property through II/RCI etc.

We have never used the shuttles, preferring the freedom of renting a vehicle. Parking at the parks isn't really all that expensive considering the convenience of coming and going at will. Driving to the parks takes no more than 15 minutes; a bit more to Universal. Also note that as we are owners, the cost of the shuttle for our party (4-7 depending on who comes) is a LOT more than the cost of parking at Disney.

From those who have reported here on DISboards about taking the shuttles, they are a bit slow (multiple stops) and don't run very frequently. You have to plan your park time to be sure you are back at the bus for the pickup time. Not as convenient as the onsite Disney transportation.

Whatever you decide to do, have a wonderful trip!

Just to fill in a few details...

This is a huge resort that was built in phases, hence all the different sections. I heard that the Courts was one of the first sections built and that these are the largest units. The second last built I believe is the Lakes. The Cascades I believe is the newest -- one of the few with elevators and a zero entry pool if that is important to you. Yes, Courts was first, and the upper units are very large, although the 2nd bedroom is pretty small (only 2 single beds). Full disclose - we own a week in Courts. After Courts came the Falls, Spas, Palms, and Springs sections. Building then continued across Meadow Creek Drive on Fountains, Fountains II, and Lakes. The last section completed was Cascades, back on the East side of MCD.

The resort does have two fairly distinct areas (almost like villages), but the facilities are open to all. The nine sections share 7 pools; Cascades pool isn't technically zero entry; there is a single step down, but there are little fountains in the shallow area that the youngsters love. Pretty sure that either Fountains or Lakes has zero entry, but we don't venture to the other side often.

Elevators are only in the 4 story buildings in Lakes and Cascades. All other sections are 2 to 3 stories with walk ups. It really isn't that bad. The only time I find it bothersome is when BBQ'ing. This year we were in a 3rd level unit in Springs. I forgot a couple of things and had to make a total of 6 trips up and down the stairs before dinner was done!:scared1: A bit of planning would have helped!

Every single section, though, has recently (might be a few not done yet -- you can call and find out) gone though a major remodel -- like gutting the whole place putting in granite counter tops, etc (complete and total remodel). This brings this resort (every single section) right up there with the best timeshare resorts in the area. Courts is the last section to be renovated and is underway now. We were unable to stay in our own unit this year because of the this. The section will be complete in September, and it is highly unlikely that you will get an unrenovated unit now as most of the Courts units are closed for renovations, or have been recently completed. Maybe 24 old Courts villas still open as of now, and that number decreasing weekly. At this time you are highly unlikely to get an unrenovated unit.

I never really thought about the views, but this is very true. Most units front onto the parking, but the balconies/patios all look over landscaped areas. Very pleasant! One plus of the older sections is that you park right at your door, in the larger buildings you may have to walk a bit further to get to the elevator.

I don't really know about how likely you are to get a certain section. I've stayed here four times and three out of the four times I got the section I requested. You can request a particular section through Diamond Lane request. The resort is always eager to satisfy guests, but be reasonable. It is much more difficult to give everyone what they want during busy weeks when the resort is full up. If you are travelling during a less busy period, there is a very good chance you can get what you request. That said, there is very little to request. There really isn't a bad section at the resort. Some areas are quieter than others, some closer to the action; but they are all great clean and large units.

I personally would be happy in any renovated section (which I think at this point is probably all of them). If you do not like the unit you are assigned, take the time to go back to the front desk and ask for other choices. Staff seems very accomodating and helpful.

Thank you so much for your detailed response. I had no idea that you had to pay if you were using the timeshares, which we are. We are driving to Disney, so we will have our cars. I was trying to avoid the parking fees but you make great points. Thank you again. :goodvibes

Which property is this, the villages or the other one?

Also has anyone stayed here and Marriott Harbour Lakes (Horizons) that could compare them?

Stayed at Marriiott Harbour Lakes in December and it was AWESOME. My children ages 8 and 3 had a fantastic time. There was a really neat pool slide and a huge water play area for smaller children. The location was great. Practically across the street from Sea World. I have never stayed at Vistana so I can't compare the two.

Is bell services helpful with luggage since so many of the buildings do not have elevators?

They've offered to assist every time we've been there, both for checkin and out, but I'm a pretty strapping guy myself, so I haven't used the services. There always seem to be a few bell men (people?) available at the stand outside the entrance to the main office, possibly not as many available at the peak checkin time.

We have used the bag check service when arriving early and waiting for our villa; the Bell staff was very helpful. They even offered to keep any groceries cold until we could get the keys for our villa.

Which property is this, the villages or the other one?

This is the other one - Vistana Resort on SR 535.

Also has anyone stayed here and Marriott Harbour Lakes (Horizons) that could compare them?

We've stayed at Vistana Resort a couple of times (Villages once) and have spent time at Harbour Lake visiting our daughter and son-in-law while we were staying across the street at Marriott's Cypress Harbour resort.

In my opinion both Harbour Lake and Vistana Resort are nice timeshare resorts. I like the rooms better at Vistana - generally bigger and nicer (at least for those sections that are now refurbished, the refurb brings this resort up to the Sheraton timeshare standard that is embodied by the sister Vistana Villages resort). Both resorts have a lot of very nice resort amenities and features to offer - Harbour Lake seems more geared to families with younger children while Vistana seems to aim toward a broader demographic.

Vistana is much, much bigger than Harbour Lake with more mature landscaping and a somewhat better location for visiting Disney.
