Here now - how to change plans for weather?

Horrible storms all this week - no sunshine and basically all day heavy rain and thunder. I have a five year old with autism who hates wearing ponchos and being rained on. We just had a not so great morning at animal kingdom, and are taking a break at our hotel while I try to figure out how to salvage this. Order a huge umbrella from Amazon now? Try to get a stroller rain cover? How do/would you alter plans if you knew you’d be getting tons of rain and basically no sunshine for your whole trip?

Uuughh...you poor thing. I've been commiserating on all these weather threads. My son is there now (it's his last day) and I have had one of those trips before.

Honestly, I think everyone would tell you to go with your original plans since this is not just one day of rain, but many. However, dealing with a young child that has issues with the wet is another matter. I'd probably try to go out and get him a better fitting rain jacket. Ponchos are extremely uncomfortable for more than a few hours. There are some tips on this board about rain gear but mainly for adults. It seems like a nice, thin rain jacket would be good. If you can get a good stroller cover that would help to.

Focus more on inside things, like Nemo and friends/turtle talk and the land in Epcot

Or the various shows/attractions in hollywood studios.

definitely get a stroller cover, rain jacket is a good idea. And maybe schedule some characters meals.

Our son felt the same with ponchos at that age see if you can find him a rain jacket. If you have a car go to Target or Walmart but it might be worth taking uber/lift. If the cold water doesn't bother his feet get him a pair of croc material sandals that can get wet and dry fast. Our son couldn't stand wet tennis shoes. If the cold water bothers him get some rain boots. Our son doesn't mind wearing the ponchos now because he got used to wearing them at Disney but only the bright color ones that are a thicker material. You can sometimes also get an extra poncho and put it over the stroller to help some and if you do go to the store they sometimes have stroller covers they sell also. Sending good thoughts your way!!!

I feel so bad for the those there with the bad weather this week. We had a bit of rain last week a couple mornings and it helped tremendously to have a stroller cover. If you did not rent a stroller with cover it might be good to get one now. Likely could still get it delivered today or tomorrow morning. Kingdom Strollers was awesome and the rain cover worked great on a rainy morning for us. The kids Crocs also worked great.

There are several kids rain suits on Amazon and yes, I would pay for overnight and have it there asap. Good luck and I hope you and your son can still have a great time. Even though people say "It's still better than a day at work, etc." I can certainly understand the disappointment and the extra planning it must take to make it all work out.

Thanks for the advice so far! We’re currently driving to buy buy baby for a stroller rain cover and then target for big umbrellas and a rain coat. The rain has temporarily lifted (yay!), crossing our fingers we can get okay enough weather to watch Illuminations during our Rose and Crown reservation tonight. And I’ll try to add more character meals!

FYI about stroller covers. I would just get cheap ponchos and tie them over.

Our stroller cover was stolen off our double stroller at Epcot today. We know it didn’t blow away because it was not windy and it is a large and very heavy duty cover that sticks to the stroller. We know we had covered up before we went inside. We were inside for 15 minutes, tops.

I bring anything of value inside with us always but obviously the point of a stroller cover is to keep it covered while you’re on a ride, at a restaurant, etc. Really disappointed that a parent would actually do that to another child’s stroller.

That’s horrible - I’m so sorry! We were at Epcot tonight too, and that would be really upsetting.

We found that DHS was the best park for us to do in the rain. Most of the attractions and queues are indoor or under cover, and the walk between attractions was relatively short. MK was the worst for us in the rain - lots of outside walking and horrible drainage in the park. We were up to our ankles in water. Good luck to you!

Epcot is also good for all day rain. Go in do Spaceship Earth or head straight for Innoventions West (character meet and greet) to get a break from the rain, proceed to the Living Seas with Nemo (2 attractions Turtle Talk and the Seas with Nemo + aquarium in the pavilion can take a lot of time), and then finally head to the Land pavilion for another two attractions Living with the Land and Soarin and a snack at Sunshine Seasons.

My kids hated ponchos at every age - maybe take a "Walmart/target run" and try and find a raincoat, rain boots and a real stroller cover - imho it make a huge difference as they are vented, fit well and the kids can see out. Maybe crock type sandals?

Maybe do a character meal, plan for shows and indoor rides :)

Good luck to everyone this week.

I have a friend who was there yesterday, she said very little rain despite the forecasts. She was in Pandora last night, no rain.

Interesting. My son was in AK in the morning and Epcot all the rest of the day.

He had rain most of the day, although not drenching. In fact, Test Track was closed the majority of the day except for 2 short periods when the sun broke out. His one fast pass on to Test Track was rained out so he got a multipurpose fast pass. Went back to use it during the break in rain and in that short time, it started raining again and they shut the ride down after he scanned in. So, it did rain but no a hard, soaking rain.

How the weather so far today?

partly to mostly cloudy, 85 degrees. no real rain as yet - forecast shows 15 - 30 % chances over the remainder of the day. radar shows some small areas of showers over parts of west-central Florida and the east coast but Orlando has been pretty clear. I'm happy because my daughter and the safety patrols are at Universal Today.

While the weather reports yesterday for today were supposed to be bad, my son has called and said, for him, it's been beautiful today. He leaves tonight so he's having a pool day and he thinks the weather is fantastic. My weather app is certainly in disagreement with him!:teeth:

Your friend must have been in some sort of magic bubble - we did AK in the morning and everyone was completely drenched. Epcot at night, where it was gray and blah, but did eventually lighten up a bit rain-wise! We were at rose and crown, where they weren’t seating anyone outdoors and had the weather shield/wall things down on the upper patio.

It’s lovely today - we’re so enjoying it! Doing Fantasmic tonight since that seems most likely to be messed up by the rain on future nights. And it’s the one our youngest is so excited about! I’m crossing my fingers that the forecast keeps being wrong, haha!
