Here now and having a horrible 40th bday trip

Please stay hydrated and follow the BRAT guidelines when eating. When the doctor visited your room, did he give any indication on what it might be?
I would really suggest a trip to Centra Care to at least get some medicine to soothe your stomach and possibly get where you can eat and drink.

I sure hope you are better for Saturday.

My brother got so dehydrated when he had the flu one year he had to Ge hospitalized. Don't go to long before you get checked out again. Take care.

FYI- I was there the first week of November as was a co-worker. They ate at the same place and his wife got very I'll (issues out both ends)- later that night. Not her it only lasted about a day, but it was their travel home day and she is disabled in a wheel chair so it made for a really rough day. Perhaps you should let them know at the restaurant in case there is a trend- although it could just be coincidence.

This is a bug that is currently going around where I live. My sister had it on Tuesday, my mom had it on Thursday, and now on Friday, my dad has it. It mostly only lasts a day, but my sister has suppressed immune so it took her an extra day to recoup. My sister works for the company that handles her transportation to her workshops. When she called them to tell them she did not need picked up Tuesday, she found out that three different people had it as well very recently. So, it might have been the food, but it could have been a bug picked up somewhere on property.

I would think that the best thing for a stomach virus or other gastrointestinal illness is to fast. (but drink plety of water).

Although you can't help if if waitstaff touch the food items, do you use a napkin to pick up bread or similar items instead of using your bare fingers?

Yes, washing your hands before eating is very helpful but there is some compromise to the cleanliness when you pick up your handbag or have to hold on to a stair banister.

(for those eavesdropping) Although you can't get a refund on your park ticket, if that had not been used then you should be able to buy a new ticket for the fewer days you have remaining and prioritize your Magic Band so you use the new ticket and the old one can be saved for a future vacation.

Did you purchase trip insurance? If so, be sure to see a Dr. for diagnosis and documentation, then contact the insurance company. Illness should be covered under the policy.

ugh, so sorry to hear about this. it's happened to me as well. once at disney and once on another trip. it's the worst to be sick on vacation. sounds like the previous posts about urgent care and gatorade might be helpful. hope you feel better soon : /

So sorry... My husband got sick on a trip a while back. It only lasted the evening, but he won't eat in Japan anymore.

Poor you. My first trip to WDW was 18 years ago for my honeymoon. Picked something up on the flight from the UK I think and was bed bound and throwing up for five days. Looked like a bag of bones when I surfaced. No fun. You have my sympathy. Haven't been ill there in 11 trips since until this summer when I thought I was having a heart attack. Three times!!!! Even less fun. Turns out it was my gall bladder which I have subsequently had removed a few weeks ago. Better out than in!!!! Hope you got better for your birthday. It's rubbish been poorly on your holiday.

I hope your birthday is a happy one. I hope you feel completely better & you are able to enjoy the rest of your trip.

Happy Birthday!!!

So sorry about your birthday trip! Just went through this on a trip to see our daughter in Portland OR. I never get sick, but had it coming out both ends for four days, so I was sure it was food poisoning (no fever). Then on the my 4th day, DH got the same thing. Luckily we were there a week, so he wasn't too bad flying home. We got some good grass fed, probiotic type yogurt and that seemed to help things.

We got here November 9th for a two week 40th birthday celebration. I got sick on Sunday after eating at Sanaa. I'm not saying that's what made me sick, but every time I say the name or think of my meal I feel even more nauseous. I've been stuck in my room since Monday sick as can be. This morning my husband and daughter when on my surprise MK tour without me. We are on the dining plan and all I've eaten in the past 4 days is a piece of dry toast and a handful of pretzel sticks.

Every night before I go to bed, I tell my family that I sure I'll be better in the morning. It's just not happening.

I think of the thousands of dollars we spent on this trip for me to be sick in bed....and I am officially feeling sorry for myself now.

My actual birthday is on Saturday. Hoping to feel well enough to go out by then.

I know there are things far worse in the world and in the big scheme of things this is no big deal. I just wanted a magical trip and I'm in a funk. :rolleyes2

Sorry to hear that. I've decided to celebrate birthdays on my own now. My 50th was horrible. Mum and I went to Mexico, she got sick so I did everything by myself. On my actual birthday, it was the night they moved all the tables out to the pool area and had a fiesta. The tables were big round tables of 12 and the music was so loud I knw that I wouldn't be able to talk to anyone. There was a family there with a little girl who spoke sign language I could have sat with but didn't feel like partying so I had very bad nachos at the 24 hour snack bar. Next year (first without my mother), all of my friends declined plans for supper, they figured I'd want to spend it with my family but my family declined saying I'd want to spend it with my friends so I bought myself a piece of cheesecake. My dad saw the cards on the cabinet and asked whose birthday it was. This year I had Ichiban soup. NEXT year I'm going on a cruise!

Hope you are feeling better. My birthday is around that time too. Being sick sucks. Yes, there are worse things in life, but it's still ok to complain, because it just sucks. Hopefully, at least, your family had a good time. There is some stomach virus going around town here. DS had it for a week. Two of his teachers had it, as well as many at the school. It was so bad, that they called everyone to warn them. One of my co-workers children had it. I wonder if this is going around in other cities/states. I felt a little sick last weekend but didn't have the full effects. DH never got it. Oh well, I guess you better plan another trip soon to make up for this one:)

I feel your pain! I have been sick many times at Disney with stomach viruses. Of the eight times we have been, I have been sick at least 4 times. It's weird, I have a decent stomach in general and no one else in my family seems to get it. It's no fun. We were in the boat ride in Mexico, one little kid was getting sick in her boat around lunch time, lo and behold, about 10 hours later, I was violently ill in may ways. (not sure if you can get sick that fast or if it was coincidental). I was still determined to go to the parks-husband rented a wheelchair plus I slept on a few benches. (probably not the most considerate thing to do by showing up to a park not well). At that point I was not losing it and I certainly wasn't breathing on anyone. I felt much, much better by lunch time. Bananas, rice, gatorade, toast. I love Mickey rice Krispy bars, my husband says it's that, I don't think so. Another time I got sick on the Mickey cruise ship. YUCK! Another time, we ate in the movie drive in theatre (can't remember what it's called), poor housekeeping, what a mess that night. We are actually going to Disney in jan and I am determined to stay well, no rice krispy bars for me!!!! I guess we just have to hope for the best. The really weird thing is that I travel all over the US and NEVER get sick like this. Go figure.
