Hi guys,

Here now at Aulani for a week and wanted to give a bit of a trip report/observations from our time here so far. Hopefully some of it is helpful for those coming or thinking of coming.

We are a group of 5 adults from the UK - Its our third time here since 2017 and we absolutely fell in love the first time and will continue to visit whenever we can (may be longer between visits than we'd like due to rising costs but who knows!). We're renting DVC points and staying in a 2-bed Ocean view villa. I used the dis thread on this forum to check out views from the various rooms and called ahead to put in a room request, we got exactly what we asked for and am so happy with the view.

- Landed just before 1pm on Sunday April 16th from LAX, smooth flight and nothing like seeing the blue waters and green mountains as you descend through the clouds! Those with a keen eye can make out Ko Olina and Aulani. We rented a minivan for the week. Last time we were here we had to get a shuttle bus from the airport terminal to the Alamo rental center but I see there is now a new set of desks inside the terminal which made picking the car up an absolute breeze and we were on our way to Aulani by 2:15pm - around a 25 minute direct drive from the airport.

- Stopped at the Target in Kapolei, just 8 minutes from Aulani to pick up some groceries for the week, we do treat ourselves and eat out a lot but good to have some bagels, cereal, chips and juices for the room.

- Arrived at Aulani around 3pm, of course this was a busy time as lots of people checking in now so we were in quite a long queue, took about 30 mins before we got to the front but had a lovely cast member. I recommend checking in online if you can to bypass this process, we needed to do it physically as we wanted multiple cards on file for our group but if you don't need that then you can save this queuing time

- Got to our room, everything was clean and looked just how we remembered it. Was happy to see they now have the big flat screen TVs with Disney on demand and casting options from your phone for YouTube, netflix etc.

- Rather than a detailed trip report, just wanted to give some general info here for the rest of this post, may do a proper report when I get home.

- Getting your seat for the day isn't too bad if you're not picky. Yes there are better spots that are right next to certain pools but we normally have been going down to get seats at around 8 and can get something a couple rows deep in the seating areas which is fine by us as we're normally only sitting there every now and then.

- The weather is in the late 80s, early 90s this week so it's feeling super hot from 11-4ish. The floors get really hot at times so flip flops/water shoes are good if you're going to be walking about a lot.

- Pool temperatures are of interest to a lot of us I know and we all have our own opinions on what is good but i will say that it's all comfortable and doesn't feel too cold anywhere. The lazy river does feel a bit cool when you first go in if you're completely dry but it takes 30 seconds to adjust and then you're good and it is refreshing on the hot days. I will say it's not as warm as I remember it being the last couple times but it's really not a big deal and it's packed all day so it's certainly fine with everyone that's here.

- We're eating at Makahiki tonight and Ama Ama later in the week so can't comment on how they are yet (been before to both of them but been a few years). But we've eaten at the following and I recommend them all:

1.Eggs N Things - Over the road by Monkeypod/ABC Mart (5 min walk). Had a 10/10 breakfast here, fresh hot food, great coffee and a wonderful server.

2. La Hiki - At the four season's next door, this was a buffet that cost around 60 dollars each including gratuity which is super expensive for us but there was good variety, a nice view of the ocean and we were impressed with the hotel grounds as we hadn't visited before. Hard to recommend considering the price but if you want a non-character buffet breakfast then it's an option.

3. Haleiwa Beach House - On the North Shore, food was phenomenal. I had a teriyaki beef sandwich with garlic fries and a guava cheesecake that I'm still thinking about today!

4. Monkeypod - 5 minute walk from Aulani. Despite everyone loving this place and non-stop recommendations, we'd never been in our last couple of visits so looked forward to trying it out. In our opinion it was good but not great, we all had different food so tried a lot of the menu but no-one loved their food, only liked it. However I know we're in the absolute minority here so probably disregard what I'm saying.

- The stores are stocked well for most items but a lot of t shirts only have small or 4xl a lot of the time, we're told to come back daily as they get new stock so we'll see how it goes but so far the few shirts we like aren't available in our size.

- The parking garage isn't great for minivans. We knew this from our last trip but we have 5 big suitcases so need this vehicle type but it can be a bit tight to get in to some spaces.

- The hotel is busy this week, lots of people everywhere, it's the end of busy season as of last weekend but still a busy lobby and restaurants/pools as we walk around. This means that character queues are probably around 10 people deep if you're not one of the first there. Not a big deal at all but just an observation.

That's it's for now I think, a bit of a brain dump but I wanted to give some info. If anyone has any questions then I'm happy to answer if I can.

Time to go watch the sunset and then to Makahiki for dinner, have a good day!

One extra point: We purchased magic bands from the main store and they're working fine for parking garage/room entry and charging purchases made anywhere in the resort. There were only about 5 or 6 to choose from and no Aulani-specific designs unfortunately (there are one or two I believe but none in stock here).

Hi ! I just referenced your trip on another board called DVC Info with some more suggestions for their trip and your trip matches dates
Hint: some great Hawaii design shirts at HollisterCo .com
and weekend events at the Ala Moana Shopping Mall … local plus 3 ways to get there suggestion !

Great report. Enjoy your time!

You mentioned Alamo desk in terminal. Are all there desks for all in the terminal? We went next door to the new rental car building last year which was convenient but didn’t see any desks inside the terminal.

Thank you for your report. We look forward to hearing more.

This is a great place to eat. Love the view and their Loco Moco is about the best I'e found.

Oddly enough we are of the same opinion. Its OK. Not great. Perhaps having some extra adult beverages helps the appreciation.

Have a wonderful stay! Glad the weather worked out!

They are known for their Mai-Tai’s! Hope you can visit Nico’s Pier 38!
I've actually had their Mai-Tais and yes, those are good. I love that they use rum that is distilled right there on Oahu from the Ko Hana Rum Factory.

Appreciate the tip about Nico's. We may have been there before, but my memory of it is vague.

The vibe during Dinner is much more enjoyable than Lunch (open seating). Sundays are our favorite since Mark Yim has been a treat to listen to (formerly of Peter Moon Band and Makaha Sons). I think he plays from 6-8 PM. You can't go wrong with the Calamari and Furikake Ahi! Oh of course...the beer!

Great report!! Thank you for sharing!

I'm debating whether to use our points for Aulani next year or bank it to 2024....🤔 I guess this is when the addonitis happens for most members huh?! LOL!!

Well actually I guess it is technically next door as you leave baggage claim then cross the street, up an elevator and then I saw Budget, Alamo, Enterprise and Hertz I think but I imagine all the major companies are there. But just glad it took 2 minutes from baggage claim to the Alamo desk as we once had a bad time waiting 40 minutes for the shuttle which we were then crammed in to and of course in the sticky warm air after a flight you're all not always in the best of moods so it wasn't a great time.

Aloha! Figured I'd give an update on a few more experiences we've had over the last few days:

- Makahiki three-course dinner was great, I'd say a 7 out of 10 for food but it was lovely to sit by the waterfall nearby and listen to the live music from the Olelo Room next door. I just think it's a real downgrade from the buffet they had pre-covid. There was soup or salad to start, I had a steak for my entree and then the pineapple cobbler for dessert. It was good but I feel like I'd have been having bite sized versions of this food from the original buffet but along with 30 other choices to have which always felt like a good deal.

- We want to the Kualoa Ranch and did the 2 hour atv tour. I strongly recommend the ranch for anyone that hasn't been before, any of the tours would be good, we've done a few different ones but I loved this raptor tour, it was a 4 person atv and we had a lot of fun terrain to drive around. We had rain the entire time though so got soaked as there was no windshield so make sure to take a raincoat if the weather looks even remotely wet the day you go.

- We've done a few luaus but decided to watch the Ha Breath of Life show at the Polynesian Cultural Center with the gateway buffet hall beforehand. I know this isn't a proper authentic luau experience and I guess also the Mormon involvement with this place puts some people off but we had a good time going round the marketplace outside, eating probably the most diverse buffet we've had for years in a hall that had awesome theming and then a show with impressive dancers, music, special effects and fire dancers so I recommend checking this out, especially after Kualoa as it's only 20 minutes away.

- We just got back from the Friday night fireworks at Waikiki. For those that don't know, these are set off at 7:45pm on Fridays by the Hilton Rainbow tower right on the Waikiki beachfront and you can sit pretty much right next to where they set them off meaning you have fireworks right above your head which I loved so much. There's multiple parking lots within a 10 minute walk to the beach and some cool shops to wander through nearby.

- The resort has definitely dropped in crowd numbers as the week has progressed. I didn't mention before but we've had a couple of days where it took a while before we got an inner tube for the lazy river as they were all in use but the last couple of days it's been fine.

- The small selection of stores over by the ABC Mart in Ko Olina are so nice and all the employees we spoke to were so friendly and welcoming to us. There's a particular clothing store called Crazy Shirts and they have the most amazing designs on their clothing, and a lot of clothing is dyed/infused with local Hawaiian items e.g. yellow shirts with Pineapple inside the cotton Sounds weird I know but very cool to see. Also a nice boutique selling general beach/Hawaiian items for the home - Super touristy but for us in the grey old UK it's nice to have some fun colourful items from Hawaii.

- We've seen mongooses and cats running about a couple of times by the pools which kids nearby always go crazy for which makes us laugh every time.

- Shave Ice has been an absolute must with the heat this week. I'm a Strawberry, Pineapple, Mango guy with condensed milk and ice cream but I recommend POG too for the Polynesian lovers.

- Ulu Cafe has been great as always but service has been very slow this week when ordering items to be cooked. Same for the coffee shop next to Ulu in the mornings. You often see one poor person having to make all the orders with a backed up queue. It's nice to have these things freshly made and an extra few minutes queueing means nothing when on vacation of course but just an observation that we'd found it a bit slow.

- T shirts continue to mostly.be small or 4xl available.

- We're doing snorkelling tomorrow and stargazing on Saturday so will give our final updates on Sunday/Monday when we leave. We've had an absolute blast and I will forever love it here, I hope those on the fence give it a go if they can. It helps to watch some YouTube walkthroughs I think to try and get the vibe but I promise nothing beats walking in to that lobby, feeling the warm breeze, hearing the Hawaiian music and looking out to the ocean.

Nice trip report! We got back last week and great time as well. I agree with your thoughts on Monkeypod. It was the "worst" service we experienced during out entire trip. The service wasn't terrible, but it was definitely just average if even that. And the food was just ok. It was good to have another option off property, though.

It stinks that it rained during your Raptor tour. However, that probably meant there was no dust. When we did ours there was zero rain, but we also were covered in dirt at the end. Our guide said the best tours are the ones where it rains a little bit because it keeps the dust down. I don't know if I would prefer to be soaked or dirty, lol. Either way, the tour is a really fun time!

You mentioned Bagels and I have to suggest :
Jalapeno Bagels and so far I can find them only at the location close to MargaritaVille on 192 Kissimmee…
Fresh daily w/ cream cheese or toasted with butter
! just went this morn and great to freeze !
Let me know if you have tried these and gotten addicted .
Also would like to know if you have them local in any hometown in case I am traveling !
I am keeping all your great suggestions .

Thank you !
