Here it is - the OFFICIAL 2014 READING GOAL CHALLENGE THREAD

18 - Alligient. With so many hating the end of this series, I was expecting something different. I enjoyed this book much more than Mockingjay.

19 - Idiot Girls Action-Adventure Club by Laurie Notaro. Humorous memoir essays.

Just finished Book#9 - Private LA by James Patterson and Book #10 - Stronger by Jeff Bauman a Boston Marathon bombing survivor.

Goal 72

#37 The Quiet Game by Greg Iles

From the jacket:
'Penn Cage is no stranger to death. As a Houston prosecutor he sent 16 men to death row, and watched seven of them die. But now, in the aftermath of his wife's death, the grief stricken father packs up his four year old daughter, Annie, and returns to his hometown in search of healing. But peace is not what he finds there.'

This is the first of the Penn Cage series and is pretty good. Kind of a legal/political thriller. It was a bit wordy & long winded in some places but I liked it and will continue with this series.
And, hey, any author who begins and ends a book with his character at Walt Disney World has to be a kindred soul!

I have only read 17 out of 100 books so far. Have not done that much of reading lately. Other things like Farmville 2 and YouTube have been taking up my time. Plus I am waiting for my reading glasses to come in. Six books are what I am reading right now. All are 14 day loans at my library so I am trying to read them quickly.

Cracks in the Kingdom (The Colours of Madeleine, #2) by Jaclyn Moriarty (read the first book and I loved it.)

Cress (The Lunar Chronicles, #3) by Marissa Meyer (Love how all three books are different takes on old fairy tales like Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel.)

Waking the Dead (Cafferty and Quinn, #2) by Heather Graham (Have not read the first one because I only saw this one on a book blog and didn't know it had a first book.)

The Chase (Fox and O'Hare, #2) by Janet Evanovich (Read the first one and I loved reading it. Love reading her books!)

Aunt Dimity and the Wishing Well (An Aunt Dimity Mystery #19) by Nancy Atherton (Have only read one book in this series last year.)

Concealed in Death (In Death, #38) by J.D. Robb (Read one book of this author's that had different authors short stories in the book.)

Sorry about the double post. Didn't go through when I clicked to post a reply. Said I double clicked when I posted my reply but I didn't.

Haven't really logged books here, but I've been reading!!

16. Growing Up Dugger----Jill, Jana, Jinger, and Jessa Dugger

I really enjoy watching the Dugger's on TLC. Regardless of whether or not you agree with what the Dugger's stand for, it's amazing to see such a large family function.
This book is a little redundant in places, but really explains how they live and why they feel the way that they do.

17. Hopeless----Colleen Hoover

I'm sure this book has been reviewed here before. It's about kidnapping, sexual assault, suicide, etc. Literally, I think it covers ever major topic possible. My neighbor recommended this to me a few months back. It read quickly. I'm confused as to whether this was a YA book, or adult. Also, could it fall into the "new" genre of 'New Adult'?
It was one of those books that doesn't require that much thought.

18. Losing Hope----Colleen Hoover

Of course I had to follow up the first book with the second. I think a lot of authors are doing this now, but I find it kind of interesting. I like seeing what is going on in the different characters minds. I think if you've read the first book, you should read the second....It's rather interesting.

Finished 21 of 45, the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid book with my boys...hilarious. Super easy, super short read. These would probably be great for kids who need some help getting into reading.

I think I liked it more than my kids did, lol. They thought it was a little too fast and easy.

The Witness
Sandra Brown
The best public defender in Prosper, Kendall has stumbled upon the town's chilling secret - and her marriage to one of the town's most powerful men has become a living hell. Now Kendall is a terrified mother trying to save her child's life.

This is the first book I have read by Sandra Brown. I decided to give her a try because I was in the mood for something by Nora Roberts, but have been bored by the last few of her books I've picked up.

This was a pretty good read. It had a couple of surprising twists I didn't see coming. I plan on trying a few more of her books.

Today I will be starting Midnight Crossroad by Charlaine Harris and I am VERY excited. Even though I was disappointed with the last few Sookie Stackhouse books, I can't wait to see what kind of characters and stories this series will have!

Book #38 How to Eat a Cupcake by Meg Donohue

Book #39 The House At Riverton by Kate Morton

Book #40 Star Wars: A New Hope by George Lucas

Plague of the Cybermen
Justin Richards

11th Doctor solo adventure

Its basically another book length episode but I found it enjoyable. Plus its nice to see into the Doctor without him having a Companion along with a favorite villain in an unexpected light.

14/30 The Witch Doctor's Wife by Tamar Myers

from amazon:

The Congo beckons to young Amanda Brown in 1958, as she follows her missionary calling to the mysterious "dark continent" far from her South Carolina home. But her enthusiasm cannot cushion her from the shock of a very foreign culture—where competing missionaries are as plentiful as flies, and oppressive European overlords are busy stripping the land of its most valuable resource: diamonds.

Little by little, Amanda is drawn into the lives of the villagers in tiny Belle Vue—and she is touched by the plight of the local witch doctor, a man known as Their Death, who has been forced to take a second job as a yardman to support his two wives. But when First Wife stumbles upon an impossibly enormous uncut gem, events are set in motion that threaten to devastate the lives of these people Amanda has come to admire and love—events that could lead to nothing less than murder.

I enjoyed this so much that upon completing it, I immediately downloaded the next one in the series and began reading it. I almost never do that. I just found it fascinating, learning about the dynamics of life in the Congo during this time period.

I have about 50 pages left in my current book and I need a little help picking my next one. I'm going to knock one of the YA titles off of my "to read" list. What do you say DISsers?

Ender's Game
or
Divergent

I haven't seen either of the movies yet. TIA! :goodvibes

The Divergent series ended so badly that I'm trying to get people NOT to invest time in reading it lol. So I guess I'm voting for Ender's Game. Never read it though!

Divergent certainly had a disappointing end to the series. I read the Maze Runner series and that was very good. Similar to Divergent

If you're going to read Divergent, just read the first one and stop there. The first one is great, the second one is decidedly less good, and the third makes you feel robbed for investing your time and emotion. I thought Ender's Game was pretty good but I've not felt the need to read the other books beyond that one.

#46 Aunt Dimity's Death by Nancy Atherton

I was tempted to get this based on mumloveseeyore's recommendation when I saw she loved The Potato Pie and Guernsey Literary Society and then when I saw Piglet'sPal2 also recommended it then I downloaded it straight away..

I enjoyed it very much and will be sending you both my bank details so you can contribute to me being able to download them all :rotfl:

I'm so flattered that my recommendation, along with mumloveseeyore's, encouraged you to start the Aunt Dimity series! I knew you were a fellow Jane Austen fan, and I've followed many of your fanfic suggestions, but I didn't realize you were a "fluff" fan too!

I have a long list of books that I've read for this challenge but haven't posted yet - too busy reading! I'll try to get caught up next week.

Queen Colleen

My oldest just had me buy him the first two in the maze runner series. Guess I'll need to read them also.

I wanted you all to help me choose which book to take off of my reading list next. Instead, you talked me into adding another. :upsidedow
