Here it is - the OFFICIAL 2014 READING GOAL CHALLENGE THREAD

My favorite historical novel in a very long time was "Once Upon a Tower" by Eloisa James. It won a lot of reader and critics awards for 2013. I highly recommend it for those looking for historical romance.

Finished #6 - Ceremony in Death by JD Robb. From Amazon:

"Conducting a top secret investigation into the death of a fellow police officer has Lieutenant Eve Dallas treading on dangerous ground. She must put professional ethics before personal loyalties. But when a dead body is placed outside her home, Eve takes the warning personally. With her husband, Roarke, watching her every move, Eve is drawn into the most dangerous case of her career. Every step she takes makes her question her own beliefs of right and wrong--and brings her closer to a confrontation with humanity's most seductive form of evil... "

I'm really enjoying this series. I'd give it 4*.

I finished my second book out of 30, the passporter's disney cruise guide. Normaly I wouldn't count a guide book towards my reading challenge, but I decided to count it because it is quite huge (450 pages) and I enjoyed it so much that I read it in full. It really made me even more exited about planning. I really recommend it to everybody who is new to Disney cruising.

I'm half trough One for the Money by Janet Evanovich. I'm not really into it. I somehow irritates me that it was written and plays in the 90' is. I will finish the book just to know how it ends. I don't think that I willcontinue to read this serie. Maybe I will pick up one of her never books.

#4 of 50 - by Meg Cabot

This is the 4th book in the Heather Wells series. I enjoyed 1, was disappointed by 2, really didn't care for most of 3, but this one was surprisingly stronger, IMO. Heather is doing fewer things that make me want to smack her and the plot makes more sense. Glad I stuck with the series.

#5 of 50 - 700 Sundays by Billy Crystal. It's only 99 pages, so I'm guessing this one won't take long.

Finished 3 of 30: One for the money by Janet Evanovich

next I'll finish Facing the Music by Nick Carter and start the Kingdom Keepers serie.

My Goal: 100 books in 2014

Book #5 Orange is the new black: My year in a women’s prison by Piper Kerman
Details Piper’s experience in federal prison on an 10 year old drug charge.
It was little slow, but I did like it. I give it 3 stars.

Book #6 Dead in Red by L.L. Bartlett
This is book #2 of Jeff Resnick series (I did not read book #1) – Jeff a down-and-out insurance investigator who acquired hard-to-control psychic powers after sustaining brain injuries in a mugging. Jeff is now living with his brother, Richard, in Buffalo. Better but still weak, Jeff is struggling to adjust to his strange new abilities, which intermittently make him ill. While minding his own business in a local bar, he’s asked by the bartender to look into the murder of his cousin.
I gave this 4 stars, good mystery and it wasn’t obvious who the culprit was.

Book #7 Spin by Catherine McKenzie
When Kate Sandford lands an interview at her favorite music magazine, The Line, it's the chance of a lifetime. So Kate goes out to celebrate—and shows up still drunk to the interview the next morning. It's no surprise that she doesn't get the job, but her performance has convinced the editors that she'd be perfect for an undercover assignment for their gossip rag. All Kate has to do is follow "It Girl" Amber Sheppard into rehab. If she can get the inside scoop—and complete the thirty-day program—they'll reconsider her for the position at The Line. Kate takes the assignment, but when real friendships start to develop, she has to decide if what she has to gain is worth the price she'll have to pay.
I liked it and gave it 3 stars.

Book #8 Whole Lotta Trouble by Stephanie Bond
Three women conspire to humiliate a man who has wronged them each in different ways. The women's plot to humiliate the bad-boy agent goes off without a glitch ... until they discover the next morning that Jerry is dead, and not of humiliation. Toss in a missing manuscript worth millions, a sexy cop, and a bike messenger delivering desire, and the women suddenly realize that when it comes to friendship, flirtation, and felony, they're in a Whole Lotta Trouble!
I really like this one and gave it 4 stars.

I liked that book too. I have enjoyed a few of her books! I want to try the Body Movers series, but every time I try I just can't get into it!

.

I just finished the first one in the Heather Wells series. I wasn't too impressed. I'm sure I'll finish the series...just not any time soon!
That being said....
6/50
Size 12 Is Not Fat----Meg Cabot

The reviews I've read of this book/series said that I would laugh and cry and totally relate to the main character, Heather Wells. I didn't find this to be true. I felt as if the book were forced. It was readable...Just not everything I had hoped it would be.

Sorry to hear that

I read the series and found them just to be ok. I had a really hard time getting into the first one, but was able to finish it. I can't stand not finishing a book no matter how bad. She ends each book in a cliff hanger so if you want to know what happened you have to muddle through each book. They aren't a series I would recommend.

Anyone else planning on braving Divergent before the movie comes out?

Thanks. I'll just stick with her singles :)

I just retread it before reading the last in the series. For me it is one of those page turners that is hard to put down. divergent is also the best in the series IMO. If you like YA Dytopian, then you should enjoy this.

I read Divergent and Insurgent. I have a hold on Allegiant at the library. Divergent is slow to get going but I like the series overall. I liked Insurgent better.

I read these Christmas week. I liked Divergent a lot, Insurgent a little less (but I still liked it), and I really hated Allegiant. I liked the Matched and Maze Runner series better than the Divergent trilogy. At least in those you believed why the characters were acting the way the did, in the Divergent trilogy there was an awful lot of stuff that screamed "there's no reason I'm doing this except to move the plot along!"

I am going to attempt this again this year, I failed last year. I did love reading about what others enjoyed - or didn't - for the past year!

I have so much reading to catch up on, but let every little thing get in the way.

I am going to say 25, and then see where I am at 6 months.:)

#1 just finished "Father Christmas" by Tolkien. It was a light read, but I loved seeing his original letters and illustrations.

I started "Outlander" by Galbadon last night - want to give it a try before the show starts. Also, I want to read "Winter's Tale" before it comes out at Valentine's - hopefully can fit them both in!

Happy reading!

I am currently reading Divergent. Only on page 130 so still not sure how I feel. I read Hunger Games and I did enjoy. Katniss vs. Tris. So far Katniss is winning. Maybe Tris is going to grow on me??
