Here it is - Announcement re More FP+ Beginning 4/28

I'm cool with this new system for a number of reasons (as long as they remove tiering in the future also)

1) You could never FP the night time attractions with paper FP's anyway, so I don't get why people would complain about that issue. Don't book a FP+ for Wishes, MSEP or nightly events if you want to pull more than three FP's.

2) I don't think the kiosks will be crazy (just my opinion). A) Not everyone is going to know about the option of pulling more after the 3 are used, and B) Some may be perfectly happy with just 3

3) I love the ability with FP+ to prebook FP for the afternoon. That was the huge benefit on our trip last Sept. Sleep in if you needed it, without the fear of not hitting the headliners (however, that was before the tiers started at HS and EP!)

However, as I said all along, the MUCH BIGGER PROBLEM IS THE TIERS. Hopefully that is next on their agenda, because tiering totally sucks. It takes away the ability to hit two headliners without A) having to be at rope drop to ride one standby (takes away the advantage of FP+ and sleeping in if you need it) or B) waiting in a huge standby line.

Tiering is a big problem because those 2 parks don't have enough desirable headliners to stop everyone and their mother from wanting to book the exact same rides. Tiering cannot go anywhere until (1) more attractions are built at DHS and Epcot or (2) Disney decides they don't care if the desirable attraction's FP+ run out long before the park opens.

Tiering is absolutely necessary at this point, I've said all along that I think it is the one restriction of FP+ that is least likely to change. I wouldn't count on it going anywhere anytime soon.

My parents don't ride a lot. They usually stick with shows and food. So I'm wondering if I can use their Magic Band for some extra fastpasses. Do CMs check names or finger scans to use a fastpass?

This strikes me as exactly correct. If I COULD use all three FP reservations for Tower of Terror or Test Track instead of Star Tours or Living with the Land I would. I imagine lots of others would too.

You can use their band.

Not sure if this has been covered... not knowing how the new FP+ works totally, I'm assuming you don't get a paper FP like you used to, is it tied to your tickets? (we are staying offsite, so don't know if that matters as far as the MB go?)

Question then, if DH and DS want to go utilize one of their FP (I don't do a lot of rides), and I want to get in line to get more FP at a kiosk under this new plan, assuming the ones they are using are #3 of the ones we had reserved, that would not work, correct, as I would need their tickets, and so would they? :scratchin :upsidedow

Yeah.

Except when people hear it from a blog that primarily offers reviews of the best bang for your alcoholic buck and one guy's opinion of crowd levels, it's suddenly expert information.
Well, I think his main point is spot on whether he's been drinking or not.

I have my MK days planned as of now, and will switch out rides once SDMT FP gets released. I'm worried though that MK will tier when it does, and it may screw up my plans. I do have the A&E FP+ which I assume would be a tier 1 along w/ SDMT and Enchanted Tales w/ Belle.

I've recently made my FP reservations and have decided against changing them in the hope of getting more later in the day. My logic is that I am happy that the attractions and times I have picked will save us time. If I have to stack them together and use a FP for Space Mountain at 9.05 am when I could have walked on so that I can hope to get the Barnstormer at 5 pm as my fourth one then the first 'good' FP I had, really had no value .... can you see where I'm going with this?

I think it may work for some better than others. I guess I'm just tired of planning now and want to close the schedule book so I can give my head a rest before we arrive on vacation :rotfl:

I can imagine how you feel. After making FP+ reservations for our trip back in Feb., I have not been looking forward to making them for our Aug. trip. However based on what worked for us 2 months ago I at least had a plan; now I have to decide if I want to change my plan based on this change to the system. What I really want to do is not think about it.......planning our Disney trips never gave me a headache before FP+ ! :headache:

Sadly, you're probably right. :headache: However, this is the one area where FP+ is a HUGE downgrade from the old paper FP system.

Personally, if they don't remove tiering, even with this new announcement to use more than 3 FP+, I still prefer the old system

There are big benefits of FP+, but not being able to FP both Soarin and Test Track, and TSMM and RnRC on the same day is huge. Of course, I'm a broken record though, since this has been beaten to death many times...

FP+ is improving with this latest announcement though, and I'm happy for that.

His point is people have been pointing out the exact same thing for months, but were poo poohed as negative haters.

Funny that when Josh does it, it is suddenly oohs and aahs.

Oh, ok. Guess I missed the earlier stuff.

I really don't understand when people say I love FP+ as long as they take out the tiers. Tiers are an integral part of FP+...FP+ doesn't work without the tiers. They tried it without the tiers and and to put them in. They are never going to take out the tiers for the prebooked ones.

I agree 110%. A vacation, especially to Disney, should be fun. I feel stressed out making the plans. I want to be able to provide my daughter with the best possible experience, and the whole SDMT is stressing me at the moment. If I can FP+ that, then I can breathe a bit easier, but there is no relaxing leading up to the trip, and then once we get there, stress of trying to fit 24 hours of fun into the 16 or so hours of park time available.

Thank you because yes, that was exactly my point.

I don't get what's so hard to understand. FP+ has some great benefits...

  • Prebooking
Prebooking for the afternoon so you don't need to be at rope drop to get FP for the big headliners.
Less running around the park for FP's
No need to carry around a wallet full of paper tickets

However, all of those benefits get outweighed (IMO) by the fact that you have NO ability to FP+ the two most popular rides at EP and HS on the same day.

I understand why they implemented tiering, but understanding it doesn't mean we have to LIKE it. So yeah, I love FP+ if tiering is removed. (with this new ability to have more than 3) With tiering, it's a downgrade from the old paper system, IMO.

There was no tiering in Sept when we went and used FP+, and it worked fine at those attractions, but I'm sure as it was rolled out more it became a problem.

. I think it is terrible for people traveling together but i will find out for myself in 3 weeks.

I think her point was that since tiering is clearly not leaving and is an important piece of the FP+ puzzle, saying that the negative aspect of tiering overshadows the positive aspects of FP+ doesn't make sense when you say you like FP+.

If the negative outweighs the positive, doesn't that mean you don't like it?

I get your point.

However, we don't know for sure that tiering is here to stay and that will always be integral to FP+. Really, not being a jerk, but do you have official info that says tiering is here to stay? I haven't seen any.

Sure, the way things are now, at this moment, it IS integral to FP+, but as we're seeing in this very announcement FP+ is still changing. Tiering isn't a given, unless I missed something?
