Okay, I just opened this thread and DD (7) is screaming, "We need to know how she made that Capt. Jack costume!!!!!"

DD is dying to be Jack for Halloween, but the store costumes leave much to be desired and I can't find a good pattern that doesn't look like Capt. Hook instead. :rotfl2:

DId you sew the costume, or did you find ready-made components somewhere?

TIA!
Cathy

Okay, I'm "stalking" your costume. LOL!

Did you get the accessories in a pack like this one? http://www.toysrus.com/product/inde...=jack+sparrow&parentPage=search#prod_prodinfo

Yep, that's the kit. DD9 (aka Jack Sparrow) actually saw it on the TRU website. Haunted the local store till they got it in. The costume is the McCall's pattern, number MP392, but be warned it is only available sized 3-8. I first bought the adult one, M4952, and made the pants in the smallest size adult. :lmao: it was hysterical, they were too big for me! So off to Wal-Mart at 9AM on Sunday morning to get the kids pattern and more fabric. That's where I found the "distressed leather" fabric that I used for pants and vest. It was cheap, less than $5 a yard. The vest lining also came from there, ~$3 a yard. Lots cheaper than the brown gabardine that I originally used for the "big pants". THis is the first time that I have ever followed a pattern to sew clothing, boy was it an eye opener! All in all thought they turned out pretty good.

Okay, I just looked on the McCall website and can't find anything with the number "MP392." They all just have M and then four numbers from what I've seen. Any chance the P is supposed to be a number? I'm confused. LOL! I see that the M4952 is offered through the website in adult sizes but also up to size 8. Any chance this is the same pattern and maybe they renumbered it to the same #? http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M4952.htm

TIA!
Cathy

COuld be, it is the child size version of the other one. May be a typo on the pattern cover. Check your local stores to see if anyone has the McCalls patterns for $.99. If not, the cheapest place you'll find it will be WalMart, they keep theirs at 50% off all the time. Otherwise it's ridiculous, $15 for a pattern! I found that the 8 was very true to size. Let me know if you can't find it, I'll be glad to pack this up and send it to you, The size 8 is cut out but you can cut it down for the smaller size if you need it! :)

I just remembered, she got the gun at the WOD in DTD when we were there in April. Also, there are a few POTC things at Target, like the press on bead/moustache. She bought that last night, the jury is still out on whether or not I let her wear it. Personally I think it's overkill, but what this girl wants she usually gets!

Thank you SOOOO much for your info! :)

I'm heading to Walmart in a few minutes and DD is all excited! I'll post pics when I finish!

Have a good trip!!! It's only been a month since we came back, but I'm still jealous of everyone who gets to go in Oct. LOL! This costume will be the perfect Disney fix. LOL!

Love the photos of the kids! They both look great! But I also like the picture of the dog in your signature! Have fun!!! :)

Update: We have the pattern. :) FYI it IS M4952. Not sure why it's different on the McCall's website, but it was definitely M4952 in my Walmart as well.

I've finished the "easy" parts, like the headband, braids to attach (made out of fuzzy yarn), bead sections, and the sash. Now it's a matter of finishing the shirt, pants, and vest before Halloween. LOL! Hopefully, DD will be a pirate for five more years to make this a worthwhile costume. LOL!
