" Angela Robinson has signed to direct the remake of "Herbie the Love Bug" for the Walt Disney Co. and the Robert Simonds Co. With Robinson now on board, the project is gearing up for a mid-June start. Disney has been shepherding a remake of "Herbie" for years, most recently hiring writing duo Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant to do a page-one rewrite on their previous version." Hollywood Reporter

The title Herbie Fully loaded was reported by Greg Dean Schimtz over at yahoo.com/movies

wow

Word is the story concerns a woman driver taking Herbie on the NASCAR circuit.

BUT will Herbie be played by a new Beetle or the old one?

the dude Greg Dean Schimtz said a new beetle, which they better make soon since the beetle is now extint

Why?

What is wrong with Hollywood these days? It appears that all that is coming out lately is remakes of bad '70's TV shows and remakes of previous movies.

I know that is a generalization but, c'mon, with all the talent out there you'd think somebody would have an original idea. Or maybe there just isn't too much talent out there.

Anyway, if this is Michael Eisner's idea of getting the movie production back to where it once was, he's worse off than I thought.

Nope, it is getting back where it once was... in 1982.

That's it, Hollywood and Disney are out of original ideas. . . . .

I hate to admit it, but I would love to see a new, well done Herbie movie. (Go ahead and shoot me). Parent Trap and Freaky Friday were both wonderful (Though I hated Flubber). In the right hands, a remake/sequel can really pull on the heartstrings. I first saw the original Love Bug in the theaters when it was released in the 60's, and have fond memories of it.

Creativity can show up in a re-make, and I bet at times is tougher then tackling new material. Some directors crash and burn, while others soar.

I love Tim Burton's work, for example, but Planet of the Apes was terrible. It wasn't different enough to be worth seeing. Other remakes and sequel have been terrific. The Steve Martin "Father of the Bride" films with Charles and Nancy Meyer involved were great. In talented hands, they can be just as enjoyable as the original film.

Go, Disney! Make it good. I will be waiting with my ticket in hand. Just don't make a "Herbie goes Bananas" please.
