Helping in a disaster

We have a group from our church going to Smithville tomorrow (my daughter and son-in-law are going). They announced last night that the group would have to register with FEMA when they got there and be assigned work.

That is great! Smithville is where I was talking about in my post too. If the tornado had gone the opposite direction after it hit Smithville instead of heading into AL (AL is only 30 min from us), it would likely have wiped out my town too since we live right beside them. But for the grace of God go I...

Like I said, the churches and organizations and volunteers that have shown up or donated to Smithville has been awesome. But you are right, FEMA is organizing everything now and everyone has to register before they can help. Before FEMA arrived, it was the Red Cross so either way they did try to make sure it was an organized effort and not people just driving up. People mean well when they think of doing that but don't realize that sometimes that could be more of a hindrance than a help. The churches and organizations that go about it the right way are a true blessing.

Where are your dd and SIL driving down from, if you don't mind me asking? I find it interesting because, as I said before, it is amazing how far away some of these churches/organizations are driving from just to help.
