Helping 76yo Stepdad; need help - Sirius radio for Camry

I am trying to help out my 76yo stepdad. Three years ago he bought a Dodge Journey and paid $600 for the "lifetime" Sirius subscription on his car. (Didn't even wait for the full year trial to expire, but that's another story.)

Anyway, he sold his Dodge and bought a 2011 Toyota Camry with a 3 month trial of XM. There is no way he can afford another "lifetime subscription" now to XM.

Apparently, we can "move" the Sirius subscription to another radio, but not another vehicle.

I have no idea what to get. My DH has a lifetime Sirius subscription that he got 5+ years ago. He has a sportster that typically stays in is truck, but can be move to the dock inside. I don't think I want my stepdad to have to have a Sportster dock mounted in his new car.

Is there a car radio that that has a Sirius receiver in it that I could get and just replace the XM ready radio in his car?

I'm not even sure I'm asking the right questions about this.

Could someone here give me some advice on how to get my StepDad's Sirius to play in his Camry, with as little $$ and hassle as possible?

XM and Sirius merged a couple of years ago. They should be able to transfer to the new stereo in the new vehicle. You just need the serial number on the new radio and call them.

I never thought about getting the number off the stereo. Maybe that will work. Sirius said they couldn't transfer the subscription to another vehicle, only to a Sirius Radio.

I've also read where although the two companies technically merged, their databases and the systems (XM and Sirius haven't). The customer service rep did say that the new "radio" needed to be Sirius.....

This would certainly be the cheapest and easiest way! Thanks, I'll look into this. (Seems way to easy after the hours we've spent on the phone with Sirius.)

Nope. Doesn't work.

Can only transfer to a non-vehicle radio of the same platform - subscription was in Sirius, it has to be a Sirius radio, XM then XM radio, Sirius XM (new) then another Sirius XM radio.

Apparently the merger between Sirius and XM ony in the overall company name thus far. They will continue the two existing "branches" of the company and at the same time are creating a third "branch" - the Sirius XM platform. They are not interchangeable. Also, these three branches will maintain separate consumer accounts and data bases.

So now, I need an aftermarket Sirius Receiver to install in the Camry or a portable or home device.

Any other suggestions????

ETA: I misread the original post and assumed the subscription was for the person, not the vehicle. Posting below corrected my error!
I raise honestly a stink over this one. It isn't your fault the two companies decided to merge, and things should really be more seamless than they are. And I don't see how you could be expected to buy a new radio and have it installed just to keep Sirius. Oh, and I have XM - guess who I keep getting emails from about my account? Oh, yeah - Sirius.

Honestly, if it were me I'd keep going up the food chain until you get someone who can fix the problem and transfer the subscription. Make mention of the fact that you are sharing the trials and tribulations with a board with thousands of members while you're at it. I honestly don't see how it is worth the black eye for them to make you jump through hoops when your dad paid as much as he did.

Personally, I just renewed my XM-Sirius for about $75 including tax for the year.

We also have a lifetime subscription to Sirius in our Tahoe. When we signed up it specifically stated that it was non trasferable between vehicles. That information was not hidden or anything like that, it was clear as a bell what the terms are. Why should they make any exceptions??

Aaah...completely my mistake. I read the original post as the lifetime subscription being for the person, not the car. I see how that the OP worded it exactly as you described! My subscription is annual, but there was never a mention of it being nontransferable, and I just assumed lifetime was the same.

Honestly, a $600 lifetime subscription for a car though?!

His lifetime subscription does not say "non-transferable". I actually think it's the wrong contract - for the person, not the vehicle so to speak (It's the same as my husband's). I do get the non-transferable part between vehicles. I also think these car dealerships are taking advantage of my step-dad. The Toyota place specifically told him that his Sirius membership on the Dodge could be transfered. He even took his Sirius contract with him to the Toyota dealership to get them to help him - they then said he would need to take car of it himself. That's why I'm now involved - too many people taking advantage of him; and he not fully understanding what the loopholes are in these kinds of things.

Regardless, of the sacrasm, I just need help in finding a good solution for an older man to be able to listen to his Sirius. They will transfer it to another radio for a $75 fee. (My husband's contract says transfers are $15.)

Does anyone have a good aftermarket receiver for Sirius that they like? Do you prefer a portable device or an installed device. (I really didn't want a receiver sticking out on the dash of his new car and mounted into the plastic.) This will be the last vhicle my stepdad buys anyway. (His 3yo Dodge only had 9,000 miles on it in 3 years.)
