During my dress fitting the other day I started to feel really sick and felt like I was going to throw up. After sitting for a while and drinking some water I quickly recovered. The seamstress explained that women faint at least once a month while she is fitting them because they stand up straight and dont bend their knees. This cuts off oxygen to the brain, which causes them to feel sick then faint. I never heard of this before! And I'm so glad she stopped to let me recover before I fainted! I just wanted to pass on the info. While I'm at the alter I will be sure to remember to bend my knees :rotfl:

Guys too - I recall a Root wedding where both the groom *and* the best man passed out. :cutie:

Thanks for the tip!

I have passed out a few times in the past, and would hate to do it trying ton wedding dresses!

I learned that tip back when I was in color guard so we wouldn't pass out waiting for awards, but thanks for the reminder! :thumbsup2

As someone who does a lot of fittings, it also helps to not try to stare down at what the seamstress does. I have a bad habit of trying to assist anyone fitting me, and I always get faint after a few minutes! If you shift you weight just slightly from leg to leg for a few seconds every once in a while it helps tremendously.

Really? How interesting! I'll have to make sure to tell DF that!

Be sure to tell all your bridesmaids and groomsmen this too... I heard this trick from a wedding planner several years ago and thought it strange. Now I am an RN and know it's true, all the blood pools in your legs due to gravity if they are too straight for too long- thus not enough blood (and therefore oxygen) up in your head:eek: by shifting your weight from side to side and slightly bending your knees your muscles in your legs contract and help move the blood through your veins despite gravity:thumbsup2 Make sure everyone eats the morning of the wedding as well- low blood sugar is another common reason for fainting. And BREATHE... breathing too fast and shallow or holding your breath (both things people do when they're nervous) can make you topple over too. I won't bore you with the details of the pathophys for this but just make sure from time to time on your wedding day to take an extra deep breath in and let it out slowly (I know in some of our tight wedding dresses it's hard but atleast try!:lmao:)

While I'm on my little rant... for those of you with long travel times to get to Disney this is important too- make sure to pump your legs up and down while on the plane to keep the blood movin otherwise you can get clots in your veins (DVT's) which lead to all sorts of problems (worst being PE's- pulmonary embolisms or clots in your lungs)- smoking and birth control pills make you more likely to form DVT's as well so if you fall into that category it's even more important to do. :thumbsup2

Wishing everyone a HAPPY and HEALTHY wedding!:wizard:

The pastor at my friend's wedding last year told us this because she was having a full service that was about an hour long. I wore the most uncomfortable shoes so standing still was not an option, but I did see the girl in front of me sway a bit until I whispered the pastor's reminder, lol.

I changed out of those shoes so quickly but they helped because I had to shift my weight every few minutes to stay comfortable.

I go for fittings in April so I'll keep all this info in mind when the lady is fixing my dress.
