I have booked the Xcaret excursion in Cozumel for our June 8 cruise. After reading some postings, I am wondering if the Chankanaab excursion is a better trip? I have two daughters, ages 9 and 6. Some earlier posters mentioned being very frustated that they didn't have enough time to enjoy xcaret. Any opinions would be welcome. Thanks!

Depending on where the ship docks in Cozumel it is probably less than a half an hour away from the ship, and easy to get there by taxi.

I would think you would have lots of travel time needed to get to Xcaret.

Hi Amy,

I don't know if my trip report is one you read already or not, but in my opinion Chankanaab might be the better choice, especially if you have kids. We had exactly 4 hours to roam this huge ecological park. We saw not even half the park in the time allocated. I also don't think my daughter enjoyed it very much. If I had it to repeat, I would probably still go to Xcaret for the experience, but next time, I will definately skip it and go to maybe the San Gervasio (SP) ruins and then hit Chankanaab. For more info check out the Cozumel page of my trip report at:

Hope this helps...

Amy,

We too have booked the Xcaret excursion on the June 8th cruise. It just seemed like the ultimate choice. I have a friend here that has been numerous times and she assured me that four hours was plenty to do it all. However, at the time of her visits, she did not have children. We mainly wanted to do the lagoons and explore but I even went a step further and booked the dolphin excursion for our daughter directly through Xcaret which will be about 45 minutes. Now I am very nervous that we may not have enough time to enjoy all of this either and considering I am about to invest $400 in this 4 hours and I am wondering about Chankanaab too.

Are there more opinions from people who just went. I would like to hear more from both sides. Also, someone once posted a website for Chankanaab..................does anyone still have that??

Why can't I just go in blind like most people and skip all this worrying and planning...........

Try this: www.cozguide.net/chankan.html

We took a cab ourselves to Chankanaab. The kids went in the water. Very small beach. Our 2 friends went snorkeling and they loved it. Saw the sea lion show, it was cute.

Our other friends went to Mr. Sanchos and they LOVED it. Depending on what u r looking for. Mr Sanchos is beach, music and hanging. Chankanaab is for snorkeling. If you are looking for beach, I say skip Chankanaab. But there is alot in Chankanaab we didn't see. We were looking for beach

There is no way that 4 hours is enough time to do everything. If you go on the tour of the ruins and butterfly farm that is an hour by itself. If you do the lagoon that is another hour. This leaves you 2 hours to walk around this huge park and eat. Maybe if you skip the tour you might make most of the big stuff, but part of the reason for going to Xcaret is to see the caverns and stuff. Trust me on this one. Do NOT go in the caverns without a guid. They are very long and winding and we ran into several people that were lost.

If you want to go, go because it was a lot of fun for myself and my husband. My daughter complained the entire time we were on the tour but loved the lagoon. We really wanted to hit the aquarium but didn't have time. If you go, take pictures so I can pretend we made it.

Can't you do Xcarret on your own and not thru a Disney excursion. I would check that out as you are in Cozumel till about 10pm and I THINK reboard was 9 PM. I have a brochure somewhere around here, co worker went there last month. If I can find it, I'll post e mail address and prices if there in brochure.
