help with vegas

The Monte Carlo. We will have a car.
Near your hotel: MGM Grand - try the Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill. Or, Border Grill at Mandalay Bay. Or, Olives at Bellagio, if you stay away from the more expensive items on their menu.

If you drive; and spend a few dollars more: Alize at The Palms, or Hugo's Cellar at the Four Queens downtown on Fremont St. Both are romantic; the view at Alize is fantastic.

Have fun planning your trip!!

If you are going this summer, a lot of restaurants are offering Prix Fixe specials. There were some good ones at the MGM and at the Mirage. Check out their websites for details and menus.

That depends on who you ask...some people wouldn't go without a car. DH and I on the other hand like to drink and have never rented a car in Vegas.

It also depends on where you are staying and what you are doing.

Cabs and tips are just a part of our Vegas expenses. We did get a good deal on some monorail passes a couple of trips ago and used it do go back and forth. But it is a long walk thru the hotels and to the monorail stop.

Have you decided where you are staying? Is this your first trip? Our first trip we were married there and we spent days just wandering the strip going in and out of casinos. We were also broke back then so didn't do much gambling. LOL

Nowadays our trips involve more gambling and now meeting up with friends we met thru a Las Vegas message board. We dont' tend to do as much casino hopping as in the past, but still get around some.

Have a great trip!!

Anyone know of hotels that are under $100 in Las Vegas for 4 people?

I always suggest for people to sign up online at the hotel websites for their specials to be emailed to them. That's the best way to get deals. Plus MGM has put the kabash recently on people posting the deals they get via email onto messageboards .

The other thing to remember with Vegas a room that you find acceptable and what someone else finds acceptable can be totally different things. I have friends that have stayed in rooms in downtown Vegas for next to nothing that I wouldn't want to stay in ever.

We are going to 4 days in July. I would like any help with all the "to do's" and "not to do's". What is the best to see and the best way to get around in vegas? What casinos have the better shows?

Any help is appreciated....
Thanks

Hi,

My husband and I just spent the last 2 1/2 years in Vegas, so I think I can help with any questions! But, the answer to your question really depends on your details. For instance, is it adults only, or are there kids? Do you want to stay on the strip, or do you want to go off the strip? Will you have a car or not?

SHOWS/ACTIVITIES: My favorite show in all of Vegas was Le Reve! It's a Cirque show at the Wynn. I would say KA was "kaka", don't see it. There are better shows out there. Mystere was pointless. They have the New Lion King show now at Mandalay Bay and that's supposed to be AMAZING! Off the strip there's not too much to do, it's just a normal city. However, the Springs Preserve is nice (especially for kids), and a drive through Red Rock (the actually park not the hotel) is nice too.

DINING: My favorite restaurant is Craft Steak at MGM Grand! But, it's VERY expensive! My other favorites are Daniel Boulud (french cuisine) at The Wynn but also expensive, Border Grill (Mexican food) at the Mandalay Bay but also expensive. The best but semi inexpensive food I've found is the Wolf Gang Puck cafe place inside MGM. I don't recommend the $1 hot dog and beers anywhere or other such "deals". My favorite buffet is Cravings at the Mirage, but again...expensive. Good steak a bit less expensive would be Kokomos at the Mirage (by less expensive I still me $100 - $120 for 2 people).

TRANSPORTATION: The best way to get around vegas depends on what you're doing and where you're going. If going off the strip, then a car would probably be a good idea. If staying on the strip then walking, cabs, and the free train thing from the strip to downtown are the best. However...I don't recommend going downtown at ALL, I'd avoid it like the plague.

If you're looking for cheap as possible and/or you have kids traveling with you, then that's another ball game all together. If you need these tips, let me know!:thumbsup1

I just want to add...

My standards are pretty high, and I take a lot of things into consideration when I travel. My recommendations are more on the elegant/not budget conscious side of things. Recommendations for hotels and such that I've read you've gotten are semi-questionable...depending on what you like. REMEMBER - EVERYONE'S IDEA OF "QUALITY" ARE DIFFERENT. Something someone thinks is quality might be trashy to you, or, something someone thinks is elegant or nice might just be over the top for you. ALSO - remember the newness, etc. of hotels. For instance, I have asthma so I tend to stay with the newer hotels that have better air systems. The older places still smell like smoke and I cough and lungs shut down INSTANTLY. So, if you have any problems like this...just keep it in mind.

Hope it all helps! I'm so jealous, we didn't want to move, we were forced to. I would LOVE to go back!

The Luxor is the best example of a place that seems close until you actually try to get there! Last trip I stayed at the Mirage and wanted to see a show at the Luxor. I wound up taking the monorail to the MGM, taking a significant walk through the MGM and over the walkway to the Excalibur, taking a tram to Mandelay Bay, then having a pretty long walk through the Mandelay Bay shopping area to the Luxor. Then when the show was over I walked back to Mandelay Bay, found the tram was not running, then walked back to the Luxor AGAIN and had a LONG walk through the walkway to the Excalibur then to the monorail.

Not sure what the best alternative is, but I'm thinking the monorail would be of limited usefulness to you.
