help with vegas

La Reve at the Wynn is a fantastic show. It is by a guy who used to do the Cirque Du Soleil shows. It is part water and part land and the performers are incredible. We like Mystere (Cirque Du Soleil) at Treasure Island too. It has been there a long time. O at the Bellagio gets really good reviews, but we didn't like it as much as the others. To me it felt like a lot of people running in circles around a pool for a big part of it. Someone mentioned Madame Tussard's museum. We had a great time there. A lot of the wax figures look real, and most of them you are allowed to go right up to them and touch them for pictures. Some of our pictures look like we are actually standing there with the person.

What is the cost of Madam Tussaud's? Are there coupons available for this? And, is it possible to watch the Bellagio fountains from anywhere that's inside? TIA!
There is a bar called Fontana Bar inside Bellagio that has an outdoor patio; and you are directly behind the fountains. They have live music at night; you can get a table if you wait in line & order drinks from a cocktail server; and just go outside during the fountain show.

A restaurant called Olives also has an outdoor patio; however it is on the right side as you are looking at the hotel and you would have a completely different perspective of the fountain show. They take reservations but I believe the outdoor patio is first come first served. If you really want to try it, go for lunch when they open, believe at 11 am. Good luck & have fun planning your trip!

My big recommendations are to agree with a previous poster who suggested athe monorail for convenient travel. A pass is usually very reasonable. The other thing I will offer is if you are a drinker and are trying to do things on the cheap the Casino Royale mid strip has Michelob's for $1 all the time. I always duck in there and grab a couple of bottles and walk around and check out the sites. They also have $1 Margaritas but they are basically slurpees. Freemont is another good suggestion. I wouldn't venture far from the main area but it is very fun in the Freemont Experience area and drinks are reasonable and free entertainment. Have fun, Vegas is awesome!

My best advice is to remember that everything in Vegas is huge! You look down the strip and think "its not that far, lets just walk". Trust me, everything is at least twice as far away as it looks. If you think it will take you 15 min to get there, give yourself at least 30 min.

This is so true!! I remember looking down the strip and seeing all the hotels and thinking "oh, it's not too far." Boy was I wrong! Especially in the heat of summer!! We stayed at MGM though which is at the end of the strip so we had a long walk. There are many people selling bottled water out of coolers along the street for $1 a bottle too.

Love Le Reve!!! What an incredible show!! Unbelievable what they can do in and around the water. They had part of the cast from Le Reve on Dancing with the Stars last season. The theater is small so every seat is a good seat!

Things I really enjoyed:

Bellagio - fountains (best at night!) and the conservatory

Ceasars - forum shops....just beautiful inside the building

Paris - riding up the Eiffel tower at night and seeing all the lights! Dinner at Mon Ami Gabi ( best meal of the trip)...walking through the hotel

Venetian - seeing the canals and shops

I also recommend the monorail pass....I think you can buy a 2-day, 3-day pass....and even though you may have to walk a little out of the way to the stations most of the time it is air conditioned....and better than standing outside in the heat.

We were only there for 3 days....as we then went to the Grand Canyon (the absolute best part of the trip!) and stayed in a hotel on the ridge of the canyon....incredible!

I also just got back from a conference in Vegas week before last. Here are some impressions I had:

The monorail is great (super fast way to get from one end of the strip to the other), but is much more useful if you are staying in a hotel that has a station or is adjacent to one that has a station. Last time I went I stayed at the Paris and had reason to go to both the Venetian and the MGM, and I thought it was incredible. This time I stayed at the Mirage and got tired of crossing the street and going to the extreme back of Harrah's to catch the train. It depends a lot on where you are staying and where you are going. Although I didn't try it, I'm thinking the Deuce bus would be a good alternative.

Try Travelzoo for shows (http://entertainment.travelzoo.com/las-vegas-entertainment/). I got a great deal on Blue Man Group there. Tix4Tonight is also great. They also have a location in the Fashion Show Mall (next to Treasure Island) and a few other places. I did see Cirque shows there, but not for 50% off. You should really be there when it opens (I believe at 10), and note that you may have to exchange a voucher for actual tickets at the box office at least an hour before the show and preferably earlier.

The buy one, get one for $25 Cirque deal is great. There's nothing like a Cirque show.

I love the buffets at the Paris, Planet Hollywood, and the Mirage.

Penny slots are just as much fun as higher denominations and you have basically as much chance of winning (slim to none!). Try the Star Trek machine with the vibrating seat or the Monopoly games (my favorite).

I second the comment on the hugeness of everything, both between resorts and inside them. I was surprised one day how tired I was and how my feet hurt when I didn't even leave the Mirage. Just dragging around the casinos can be exhausting, especially when they are highly motivated NOT to give you a direct route to leave! It's very easy to wind up going in circles.

Hope you have a great time! I'm sure you will! pirate:

Buy one ticket and bring a friend for $25

We would have loved to see the Lance Burton Magic show and that was one of the reasons we stayed at the Monte Carlo this time (it was part of their summer deal and the tickets would have been 2 for 1). However, we were informed that he injured his foot during a performance about one month ago and since then and until further notice (at least until July 7) the show is dark and he is not performing. They are refunding the tickets that have been purchased.
We hope he is feeling better soon.
We'll have to catch his show next time!

The double decker bus is called the Deuce and runs 24/7 on the Las Vegas Strip. They are about 4-5 minutes apart, except for after midnight for a few hours when they are 10 minutes apart. Really- it's been tested by us.They only accept exact change, but you can buy passes at kiosks located along the strip (we got ours outside MGM HOtel). A ride costs $3 each way. One day pass is $7. We got a 3 day pass for $15 each. That gives you unlimited starts and stops along the strip. Was worthwhile for us. This will take you from Mandalay Bay at one end of the strip to Fremont Street Experience (and the bus terminal) at the other end of the strip.

We go to Vegas about once a year. The Monorail sounds great until you have to WALK all the way thru the casino/resort to get to the monorail stop and then back out thru the next casino/resort. The bus is more convenient on the Strip, with less walking.

Have fun and May Lady Luck be with you!

Can anyone recommend a good restaurant for an adult night out? Prix Fixe is OK (although I'm still not sure how to say it!) but we'd like to keep it under $100. Neither of us like sushi but other than that we're pretty open.

Thanks!!

I LOVE Vegas....my husband like to go there for our anniversary, but a huge boat repair will keep us away for at least a year. Anyway, I am assuming that since you are posting on the budget board that you are interested in saving some money. Since I have been there a few times, I receive emails all the time from casinos with great room offers. All you have to do is go to the hotel's website and check the rates. The best offer I recently received was from the Luxor. I believe the rooms were less than 50 a night. We collect all of those touristy magazines in the hotel rooms and around in the lobbies and stores. Once we were there and we found a coupon for a free breakfast if you bought one at Treasure Island. We loved the breakfasts so much that we used a coupon each day we were there! Almost all of the casinos offer stuff if you sign up for their club. We always do that and receive all kinds of coupon books. Some of the coupons are not worth the paper they are written on, but some of them are great. One of our funny stories was when we had a coupon for a free shrimp coctail....the shrimp were so small you could barely see them. We still laugh about that one! I agree with a previous poster about gamblling at slots-o-fun. I can entertain myself there for an entire evening on the low stakes roulette wheels. Have a wonderful time...I'm very jealous...:rotfl:

Dinner out:

Italian at Trevi located at the Caesar Forum shops at the Statue/Fountain across from Gucci. Wonderful Italian food- seafood fettucini and lasagna entrees. Appetizer- bruschetta, entree and dessert- lemon sorbet - wine all less than $100.

Steak at Gallaghers, NYNY: You really only need to order one. The steaks are huge and I have never seen anyone finish a whole one yet. Order an appetizer or salad and share a steak. Would be under $100. A steak dinner can run $35-$50 pp.
First time we went to Gallaghers was in NYC.

Mon Ami Gabi, Paris: Grilled Salmon and spinach. He got steak.

All above are excellent with amazing ambience, and the food is delicious and consistent. Service is Superb. We stop at these locations every time we're in Vegas.

Boy, I am so ready to go back!

My hubby and I got back from Vegas in April and we had alot of fun. We did the Tahti Village timeshare promo and stayed in the Statosphere for 3nights Free plus we renewed our vows free.

I recommend renting a car, you can Valet at most of the casino's free. I am lucky since DH dosnt drink:rotfl: I was able to sample a drink from each casino we played at. ;)

There is a fabulous restaurant off the strip called Ferrarro's (I think the whole name is Mimo Ferrarro's). Best Italian food ever! It was about a 10 min. taxi ride from the MGM.

There are special room rates under $100 at the Monte Carlo for July; some as low as $55 per room. Check out their web site. I think I also received emails with low rates for the Luxor.

My favorite meal was a vanilla milkshake spiked with rum at the hamburg place just inside Mirage.

That was after seeing "Love" which was fantastic!

All the hotels are running specials. The Flamingo is a perfectly fine place to stay, good location on the strip - and cheap. Look at the websites.

Where are you staying . . .

We just returned last week from Vegas- Stayed at the Luxor. Room rate was $42/night upgraded to a suite total was $77/night not bad.
I thought Food was VERY high priced there nothing was really cheap or normal for lack of better terms in price.
We saw Carrott Top - he was GREAT!!
the walking killed us especially since my DH has such a BAD BAD back.
We did take a cab on night up to TI what a rip off in price from the lux to Ti should of been 12-14.00 ended up $20 w/tip. So we took the monorail back
and that was just as bad for the walking.. got off at MGM and had to walk back to the Lux since the tram from Excaliber to lux was done for the night they shut that off at 9pm.. don't understand there thought process on that at all..
We did do Hoover Dam and loved it.. if we go again I would def. stay more center strip!
