Help with Vegas Trip

I am trying to plan a trip for August. I have 3 free nights at Encore with $300 credit but the cheapest flights I can find for DH and I are about $900. I REALLY don't want to pay $900 to take advantage of free rooms but it is for our anniversary. I'm going to keep looking for a while but I agree - airfare is outrageous right now :sad2:

You will love the Venetian! It is one of our favorite places in Vegas. Sign up online for the Grazie club and they will send you offers as well as letting you get free play when you arrive and get their card.

Have a great time!

In December, my sister and I took my mom to Las Vegas for a birthday celebration. We stayed at the Platinum and really liked it. It is not on the strip, but it was a quick walk to the strip. We did not rent a car -- just walked and used taxis. There is also a monorail in Vegas. Our suite was about $120 a night and we had a full kitchen, W/D, separate living area, big bedroom and a gorgeous bathroom. The concierge was very helpful, too.

I'm not a big Vegas person, but I would go back to the Platinum.

If you have a car then then I wouldn't bother staying on the strip if money is an issue. Last year we went during the summer and got a really nice condo rental suite for $50/night. It had a huge living room, separate bedroom, kitchen etc. It was on Vegas Blvd about 2 miles south of Luxor.

Other trips we've used PriceLine and stayed within a mile of the strip and 3 1/2* or above resorts for under $60/night.

There are deals on the strip M-Th for even less.

If you are not set on staying on the strip....we just got back from our anniversary trip and stayed downtown at the Golden Nugget in the new Rush Tower. You will not be disappointed. The Rush Tower is new and the rooms are very very nice. We liked it so much we booked again for 7/1-7/6 - you will receive a $250 discount booklet also. Best wishes for a great trip.

:cool1:We are going to vegas in June and we booked a car through hotwire.com with unlimited miles. The prices were as low as $15.95 a day which I thought would be cheaper than using a taxi everytime we want to go somewheres. This is our first trip but the couple that is coming with us has been there many times.

Personally, I would not do Vegas without a car. Yes, you can take a taxi everywhere. BUT traffic is terrible on the strip and if you get stuck in traffic, a one way fare costs you as much as a day's rental. Also, if you stay someplace like the Venetian you are on the opposite end of the strip from the airport, so count on spending at least $20 each way for a taxi. Plus, it is HOT in Vegas in June and the blocks are REALLY long, so getting from one hotel to another can take a long time. Bring comfy shoes and water if you choose to walk. I would watch for last minute deals on rentals. Last fall I got a minivan from National for $45 for Fri-Mon using a last minute deal and a $20 off/weekend coupon.

If you decide to rent a car, definitely look at some of the off-strip hotels. You can get a much nicer room for way less, just by staying a block or two away.

Tips on getting a great rate at the Venetian....use Priceline. As of a couple years ago, the Venetian was the only 5 star hotel on the strip that Priceline sold. I did about three trips there and was always lucky to bid and get great rates.

Before using Priceline be sure to go to biddingfortravel to see the rates being accepted for your time period. We've gotten some very good deals researching first.
