Help with the basic dining packaged

I am hoping to go back to WDW in Nov/Dec. and while researching I have come across the basic dining package. To me it sounds like a great deal.

I prefer to eat at the sit down places as much as possible and I enjoy the character meals. Looking at my reciepts from last november it seems like a good deal.

Can you (the DIS wunderkids) explain to me the benefits and the negatives of having a package like this?

The advantages are:

It will save some folks $$$, especially if they are trveling with children. And there is a convenience factor to pre-paying meals.

The disadvantages include:

If someone in your party becomes ill, or you do not use your allotted meals, there is no refund. You can not "exchange" meal types within the plan, so you are set with X number of counter service/sit downs and snacks. It may not fit your particular dining habits..I know we prefer 2 smaller sit down meals per day, rather than having to eat an appetizer,entree, beverage and dessert all at one sitting.

good point. So I need to decide if we will want smaller meals. I wonder...can you use the counter service ones for breakfast? That way we would have room for bigger meals at night.

"The Animal Kingdom meal deal" is something completely different. It has nothing to do with the dining option you can book with a package (pkg. consists of WDW resort room + My Way park passes.)
You can get the AK deal at AK on the day you visit that park.
You will get:
an entrée and a small non-alcoholic drink from a counter service restaurant
(1) box of popcorn or ice cream bar
(1) bottled bottled water
Adult: $11.99 Child $5.99 Sales tax not included in these prices
