Help with room keys and having a guest for part of our trip

I've never had this scenario before, so need some help. My sister and I are taking our nephew to BWV for a week in Feb '07. We have done this before. I am the DVC member. We both get a key to the room so we can split up, if needed, one heading to the pool or to work out, one taking the nephew, etc. Our nephew is 8.

I found out this weekend that our aunt is being transferred to Orlando. We might can work it out where she joins us a night or two on our trip. (We're in a 1BR, so no occupancy issues, not breaking any rules.)

My questions:
1. Can she get a key to the room also? Or will she have to stick with us all the time?
2. Do I need to add her to the reservation for the nights she'll be there?
3. If I DO need to add her to the reservation, how does that impact the dining plan for the three of us? She won't be on the dining plan.

Thanks for your help!!

We had lots of problems adding a key to our room in December. On our trip in July we just listed our DD and friend in our room (with charging privileges) even though they were staying at a different resort. We had no problem with that. It was neat because all bills came to us at the end instead of 2 bills at 2 places. My understanding is that everyone in the room has to be on the dining plan so you may have a problem if you put your aunt on the list. I had a suggestion but then realized that it wouldn't work because of the dining plan. Why not see if you can get your nephew an extra key that he can carry so that you don't have to worry about him losing his loaded key? Otherwise, you'll just have to stick together a little while she's there!

You probably should call MS on Monday to ask them about the dining plan. Technically if you are on the dining plan, everyone needs to be on the dining plan.

They key is easy, the DDP is a real problem. You will likely have to add her to the reservation at some points to get a key and to be honest. And they very likely will require you to pay for her as well for the DDP or at least they should.

I have to believe you could make do with just the 2 keys. Since your aunt will only be there a nt or 2 I would think she would be with 1 of you at least during that time :thumbsup2

dining plan will be the downfall for extra key.

Since your nephew is on the ressie you should be able to get a key for him to give to aunt. (maybe)

You're not breaking any occupancy rules, but I think you are trying to break the dining plan rule. I don't mean that you are trying to BREAK the rule, but the rule says that the plan is for everyone in the room. If you want, break the ressie into the 2 parts, with/without her, and do what you will/can with the dining plan.

Bobbi :)

I don't think you'll be able to get your aunt an extra key, but as I remember the dining plan, they don't require every member of the party to present their room key when they're using the plan.

We had six people on the plan, but when we'd go to pay, they would only need one of our keys and would confirm that we had four adults and two children on the plan. My parents were in a separate room and not on the plan, so they'd get a separate bill.

So, get a room key for your nephew. (We did this for our niece and nephew, as a souvenir from the trip, but my sister kept them in her purse the whole time.) You should be able to give your aunt your nephew's key to get back in the room if she needs it, because as long as someone else has a room key when you use DDP, you're set!

OH! And one more thing... will you have a car? Even if you don't, be sure to get a parking pass at check in. If you and your aunt will each have a car, request two parking passes. That way she'll have one to use on the nights she'll stay with you.

If everyone in the room intends to take advantage of EMH, then everyone will need a room key.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions! I don't even know if my aunt will be there, but I like to overplan everything waaaayyy in advance.

I TOTALLY forgot about the nephew's room card! Since he never has charging privileges, and is always with one of us, and we use OUR key to get back into the room, I forgot his "key" was a real key! Good point.

Also, we're thinking of NOT buying the dining plan, as it's too much food for us. Me, sis and nephew usually order 2 adult meals for the 3 of us, and that works good.

I think my problems are solved. Thanks!

You are welcome! And you are right about the amount of food you get on the DDP. We gained weight with the amount we ate!

just an fyi:
even if you do get DDP, it shouldn't be a prob ~ just ask for an extra key at check-in.

my scenerio:
DH & i will be in a BWV studio w/DDP 5 nights, then he goes home.
my parents, DB & his family come down (BWV 2 bd w/DDP) & i stay in their villa for 3 of the 7 nights they'll be there.
according to MS (& i asked 3 diff ppl :) ):
i should ask for a key at check-in (do not add self to their ressie in advance) ~ as per MS, "it is not a problem" if done at check-in.
i still get ME for my rtn home
i cannot be added to their DDP (that i expected, & am fine with...i plan on paying OOP for the meals we have together)

hth :sunny:

Wait a minute, don't they put the guest's name on the room ID? They just don't pass out extra room keys, do they? I thought if you requested another key, it had to have a name on it and if you said you lost one, they cancelled the one that was lost.
