I am planning a vacation to Vero Beach in November. Two adults, and two small children...possibly the grandparents too :) I've never been there before, so I have lots of questions:

closest airport (I'm flying in from NJ)
room location
car rentals
must do activities
suggestions off the beaten path
discount codes for room
etc.

I appreciate any suggestions that you might have!

Thank you !

Orlando airport is 1 hour 45 minutes away(96 miles). You will have the most and cheapest flights from there. VB has the INN(Hotel style rooms) or they have the DVC villas, which have 1BR's 2BR's and studios. If you are staying in the INN ask for top floor, direct ocen view.VB is a very relaxing and enjoyable resort. Everything is with in a 5 minute walk.
Here are a couple links with info on VB for you below.;)

Make sure to check out mousesavers.com and click on the Vero Beach on the first page.

She has a listing of discounts that may or may not be useful to you.

IMHO, you'll have a wonderful time. We never run out of things to do at the resort. They have a lot of activities planned throughout the day, the great pool, the pool slide, mini golf, pirate ship play area for kids.

We love the restaurants there.

Have fun.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for the links, and information on VB. I made reservations today for Nov.5-10, and I'm very excited about it! Keep the suggestions coming :)

THANK YOU :bounce:

"Your welcome".......I am sure you will enjoy your stay there. There is a mall..... Indian River Mall ( 510 west to 613 south to 60 west ) thatis close by and has movie theaters. Also, you will find less expensive dinner choices around and in the Mall. There is a TGIF's in the mall and a food court also. It is about 15 minutes from the resort. There is also a Bob Evans in front of the mall.
If you are a baseball fan, the L.A. Dodgers minor league team play in Vero Beach.

We went a few years back - and had the best meal at Ocean Grill in town. It is a neat place with outstanding food and a fantastic view. It is a fun place for a special meal in town. Other than that night we mostly ate at DVC - the food there was outstanding too.

I lived in Vero Beach for two years. The Disney Resort is very nice, but don't expect a lot to do outside of the resort!

As an alternative to the Orlando Airport, my relatives used to fly into the Melbourne Airport. The drive is much closer, and the airport is small and convenient. It is not nearly as crazy as orlando. It has shuttles to Vero Beach.

The Indian River Mall is probably at least 20 minutes from the Resort. All in All, there isn't much of anything very close to the Resort, as it is actually on the northern outskirts of town.

Good Luck and have fun!

We just got back last Friday from a 2 week Florida trip split between a week at VB (our first time there) and a week at WDW (WL/BCV). We had a group of 8 (4 adults and 4 kids) at VB and EVERYONE had a great time. My son and his best friend (both 13) did the teen activities and boogie boarded for hours and hours every day in the ocean. Our friend's 7 yo daughter did the unbirthday party and other activities for kids. Everyone loved the pool. It was our home base every day. We ate at Capt. Hiram's. Good food and great atmosphere dining outside. Make sure that you will be done eating before dark to avoid the no-see-ums. The character breakfast with Goofy and Max was fun. The 2 13 yos had their biceps autographed sine they were "too cool" to have autograph books! We will definitely be returning to VB in the future. Have a great trip.

My son and I go to Vero Beach every year to visit my mom -- we don't stay at the resort but we've visited several times and the beach there is really nice. Having said that, so are the public beaches, and you should definitely take an afternoon to check out the little shops and restaurants along the ocean. One of the very best things about Vero Beach is the fabulous children's bookstore in downtown Vero Beach -- unfortunately, I'm blanking on the name even though I've been there many many times but they'll have it at the front desk. They have a wonderful and very large selection of books, toys, and really cool educational stuff; we always end up spending hours there, as well as spending hundreds of dollars. There are big comfy chairs if your kids just want to hang out and read, and the staff doesn't have a problem with the kids playing with the toys on display. It's a perfect treat for a rainy afternoon (of which there are many -- but it usually rains only for a short time, except when it rains for a long time). They also sell a huge variety of used adult books upstairs.
