Help with paying dues-gift card declined

I wanted to try paying dues with gift cards this year to get gas perks/money back, so I spent a while researching it first. I was so worried I’d make a mistake and get stuck with $1000 in cards that I can’t pay dues with! Well for 2 hours I’ve been trying to pay my $1088 with gift cards, and the cards are getting declined.

I have two gift cards, and I tried entering the first one and got the “payment declined” message. I noticed it said to combine them if using 2 or more, so I followed the link to the gift card site and did that. Both cards are good and showed the correct balance. I went back and entered the card I transferred the full balance to, and it still says declined. I’m starting to panic, and member services is closed today so I can’t call for help.

Am I doing something wrong? I don’t think the issue is that the gift card falls just short of the full dues, because I’ve read in several places that you can pay partially with a gift card.

I'm not sure if you have more than one contract but I have three and when paying with giftcards, I alway select pay per contract and put in the amount that I want to pay with the giftcard. Do you have an option to do that? Or did you do that and it still declined?

@Boardwalk529 , @CookieandOatmeal is correct. No matter how many or how few contracts you have, if you’re not paying the full amount in one transaction, you have to click Pay by Contract. Since you’re only paying $1000, not the full amount of $1088, the system will decline any form of payment. So you need to click Pay by Contract, even if you have only one contract. Enter the amount of $1000 and the number for the single combined GC, and it should accept that. Then go back, click Pay by Contract again, and go through the process to pay the $88 by whatever means you wish (assuming you wanted to pay it all off today).

Thanks for the reply! I have just one contract, so I select the contract, then pay full amount, and it’s getting declined. I was worried I goofed by purchasing disney gift cards at giant eagle, but as long as they’re official Disney cards they’re ok?

Select pay by contract. I don’t know how much balance you have, but to be safe, type $500. Pay only that to test it.

I think you’re paying the full contract and it’s being declined. The max a gift card can have is $1000.

You have to make sure to click the "pay by gift card" button in the "Payment Method" at the bottom of the screen. I think I made this mistake when I first tried to pay. Also, you don't use the "EAN" numbers at the end of the gift card, just the 16 number of the gift card.

Hope you got this taken care of. It is confusing that you have to pay by contract and then actually enter an amount to pay as opposed to just taking everything off the gift card and giving you the remaining balance to pay.

Thanks, everyone! I did get it figured out. I was indeed making the mistake of opting to pay the full contract. I thought I could do that, pay with a gift card, then switch to credit for the remaining balance. I didn’t think to enter a separate amount for the gift my card, but once I did it worked. What a relief!
