I live in baltimore and my father in law is a lifetime prosecutor in the city. Unless you plan on participating in the drug trade or gang wars, you won't encounter any crime. Baltimore has a huge drug/gang problem (if you've seen the show, the wire you'll be familiar with it) and almost 99% of the inner city violent crime is drug related...says my FIL. But still have your wits about you as you would in any crowded place or city bc petty theft can happen anywhere. The major crime areas of the city are not inner harbor adjacent. You will probably encounter people asking for money, but that's all.

Baltimore is a sancuary city for illegals. Tons of crimes committed by illegals and gangs all the time. Victims are not just gang members/druggies The city does not prosecute these criminals enough. We live 20 minutes away and will not go anywhere in Baltimore at night. Not worth it. We do visit occasionally during daylight hours.

Not trying to start a debate but anyone visiting needs to know Baltimore has a lot of crime. The police presence could be a lot better in the Inner Harbor.

My son lives in downtown Baltimore and has for several years. Again just be alert in any city . We have gone to the Inner Harbor for years with no issues. My neighbor's son works at The Fort you are planning to visit - he plays the fife - and he had never had a problem.

There is always crime in cities but the city has a vested interest in keeping the major tourist areas safe.
