I am flying into tampa due to the much cheaper flight price as compared to orlando.

We are renting a car.
I need at least an intermediate size.

The best rate I could find for 7 days (in may) was this:

through dollar,
I got a dodge stratus for 158.24 total (with fees, tax etc)

Compared to what I've found so far today this seems like a great rate but those of you with rental experience.. Is this a good rate or can I do better?

Thanks for any help.

By the way. Airtrans is offering 58.00 flights into tampa (one way)
if anyone is interested. They also had some into orlando but they were all full from where I am flying out of. I booked directly through airtran's website and saved the most.

We also flew into Tampa this past month for our Disney trip. I had visited several car rental websites many times. I kept on checking for cheaper rates and the rate kept coming down. Finally 1 day prior, it was at 103./intermidiate for 1 week unlimited mileage with DOLLAR. Just kept cancelling prior reservations and updating to lower rate as it came up each time I checked. Make sure you throw away any old reservation print outs as you cancel them. We had a dodge stratus and it was just fine. Our luggage just fit into the trunk. We didn't join any sort of club so we didn't get to choose our car. Got stuck with a white one but we put a distinguishable item on the dash to tell ours apart from a distance.

Good luck! and keep checking those websites. It will come down if the demand isn't there.

Personally, I usually try to find a car for around $20 per day during the off season....Your rate for May would be o.k. with me; others might try to get it down further. You might, if you check back from time to time.. Where I live, you can't rent a lawnmower for $20 a day, so I think it's a good deal :cool1:

That is an excellent price :cool1:

I just reserved a full size car through Budget for 230.00 for 8 days + 3 hours. That seemed high to me but it was by far the cheapest rate I could find. I used the rentalcodes website.

kitkatsmom: Yes I think that's a good price. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but I would keep checking until your travel dates in hopes that it'll come down again. They do quite frequently.
