Help with my motion sickness!

I have BAD motion sickness. I used to fly all the time when I was little and I can't remember it affecting me, but when I took off in that airplane to WDW on my honeymoon I thought I was going to die. It was the worst I have ever felt. I spent alot of time in the bathroom. We had to switch planes in Atlanta and I would've rather walked to Disney than get onto that plane. I wanted to cry because I was so sick. When we finally got to the resort, I had to lay down and sleep for a few hours instead of going to the parks. I was sad for my husband because it was his first time there and he was excited.

Car rides make me sick (unless I'm driving), and the only rides at WDW that were bad on me were Star Tours, the Aerosmith coaster, and Space Mountain. I won't even attempt Mission Space!

We're going in May and I don't want to go through that again. I don't like dramamine because it makes me sleepy. Does anyone else have very bad motion sickness and can I PLEASE get some suggestions on how to make my trip a better one.

Hi. I have the same problem although it was 10 years ago the last time I flew. We will be flying this August to WDW and I'm already worried. I don't know if this will help you or not but a friend of mine told me that I could get a prescription for motion sickness medicine from my doctor that's stronger than dramamine. I don't know if it causes drowsiness or not. I need to look into something for my 4 year old daughter who throws up any time she's in a car for longer than an hour. The plane should be fun for us all!

Have you talked to your doctor? I wonder if the sea sickness patch would help you. It sounds like you have a very severe case! :grouphug: I have some problems with motion sickness, but not as bad as yours. It helps if I eat a little something bland, like toast or crackers, before I fly. I also sip on coke. Not cherry, not diet, just regular coke. They sell coke syrup in stores as an anti-nausea medicine, so there must be something in it that helps. I also have the pressure-point bands that you put around your wrists. I too have tried Dramamine and it made me into a zombie. Great if you are scared to fly, not great if you want to remember your day! ;) I hope some of these things help you!

I have used the Scopalamine (sp?) patch in the past with some success. I have also used with some success ginger capsules. I also drink ginger ale when nauseated or feeling motion sick and it seems to help. The patch causese some pretty severe dry mouth in some people, but a lot of people seem to have good luck with it. Talk to your doctor and see what they say. Good luck!!

There are a couple of typical over-the-counter medicines for motion sickness - dimenhydrinate (e.g. original Dramamine) and meclizine (e.g. Bonine). Meclizine generally causes less drowsiness and lasts longer per dosage.

Meclizine has worked well for me in the past. If you haven't used it before, it might be useful to test it on yourself (by taking it according to its directions and then being driven around for a long car ride, for instance).
